So cool that Miss A will be staying for the summer while she works! You will all have such a good time together, and staying with you will give her a little bit more summer break vibe outside of her work hours. Darcy and Sawyer will love having their “big sis” around! Pretty funny about snack grazer Sawyer finding the to-be-arriving foster kid’s snacks, plus leaving partially eaten bread in random places! Having his Miss A around will help him grasp those boundary issues, because it’s a learned concept. Happy summer to you all!

Use a few of the stackable cube shelves to divide the space. It works as both a wall for privacy and as a dresser/storage space. Easy to take down when Miss A moves back home or on to college in the fall.

Yay! So excited for Miss A:) We used to hang a queen bedsheet on a 6-12 foot extension rod (I think lowes has them?) as a partition in our old house to divide the room. It could be a good cheap option for privacy, although I’ve seen real room dividers on amazon pretty affordable. Another option is a tall storage cube wall- I see them grace my FBMP every now and again for decent prices and those are AMAZING for storage! (I have that now) Got mine on sale at target around this time, but that was like 4 years ago😅

Hi, I'm excited for all of you (and us your KZfaq family) to have Miss A coming to stay over summer. I don't always comment but I feel that God has placed a message in my heart while watching this video. I first want to say that I've been part of your KZfaq family from the beginning and I recognise how special that is. You and your family are inspirational to so many but specifically to people who are wondering about fostering or fostering to adopt. You show the good times and the difficult ones too and it's like you are preparing future foster parents by sharing the reality of what fostering looks and feels like. You are very kind to put your family and such personal times out into the world for all to see. I'm not sure about how it works in your country but in mine you have two half days of learning including listing all the support you will get etc. The reality is they will drop the child off at short to no notice (understandable to an extent) and more often than not contact and support is not given. The fact that you show the reality gives a real example of the highs and lows future foster parents may experience. I believe that the result of that is more successful placements as people don't think it's easy, amazing and importantly that not all kids are a match for your family. Fostering isn't always easy and there are times when it will challenge you but the rewards far out weigh anything else. The pleasure you get from seeing them grow and develop and the point where a child feels safe in your arms is a gift that money can't buy. Thank you for not just fostering but for teaching people exactly what it's like. The world needs more people like you and your husband, I know It's a cliche but it's also very true. Xx

Happy that Miss A Will be back! Since I am from Ohio, specifically the town on the O River, I'm guessing Miss A has taken a job at KI! My daughter worked there 2004 to 06, maybe even 07! She never had to do this, but one of her Best Friends (who she met while working there and still friends) did. There is a city bus offered a few times each day and night for those who live in or can get to the downtown area. My daughter never took it, but her best friend had to. Honestly, I can't even imagine how long that trip to and from on a city bus would be. Sure many tho who can and must take that bus to and from work, appreciate they can do it. My daughter actually LOVED working there! She made a darned good amount when she did too! Was her first paying job! If that is where Miss A is going to work, tell her to think of me IF she ever is Beasting it! 😆🤣😂

Ikea Kallax units can be hacked to use the bins in part of it to serve as drawers & by leaving some of the shelves out you can add a clothing bar to make a combination shelving / dresser / clothes rack. In general, lots of Ikea units are great for multi purpose clothes storage &/or can be hacked.

Lovely to know that you are able to be as fully supportive of Miss A as she wants/needs you to be and that you may be welcoming another child into your beautiful home. FWIW, I know you need to keep *some* things in the house for potential FosterCare Placements, but in my experience [not Foster Care related, but me buying things 'in advance' for my own child, and the children of family and friends children beloved by me, almost *never* worked out for all kinds of reasons. Nothing about your home struck me as being 'chaotic' but it seems to me that you're using a lot of space to store a lot of 'just in case' stuff. IMO you have enough things to keep track of day to day, so watch out for the danger of John's business encroaching into the whole home. P.S love John too. I am just saying...

I’m definitely about to go through a a huge purge because things got really out of hand this last year. A lot of stuff is still from gifts we have received that we don’t have a place for or things from vacation that haven’t been stored away. The items in the basement are intended for previous placements as gifts, emergency placements, or respite… but we probably won’t need to hold on to as much. That’s why it’s officially time to downsize!

For a compact dresser, you might want to look into wire mesh storage cubes. They are relatively inexpensive (I think amazon has them for less than 20$) and can be reconfigured in all sorts of ways. Plus, Miss A could use them in a dorm room or they could become additional storage for yall

You didn't show the basement ceiling. If it is drywall you can get ceiling curtain hanging tracks to make a partition for the basement bedroom. Put it out to the universe that you want a great small dresser for cheap. I've lucked out at Goodwill. Or maybe you could put some of those storage shelves as a wall for your room. They could be decorated cute. We have plug covers with the nightlight built in ( Amazon) that work really well. You just take your old plate off and screw the new one on. Good luck.

There does need to be 2 exits for the basement to be used as a sleeping area....a window she can fit out of, or a second door leading outside (ie a garage door or a basement hatch). otherwise it is a fire hazard.

I know this is not feasible for everyone, but have you thought about hiring a cleaner (not that you need one, but you might want one). I always thought it would be too expensive, but I only pay $AU100 biweekly and the lady comes for 2.5hours and does whatever I want. I am sure it would be much cheaper in the US, prob under $50. I also use an agency that does background checks, has insurance etc. Just an idea, Again, you do NOT need one, your home is perfectly great!

She's not of age yet. I think she's like 17 now? They've kept in touch since she left foster care though. This arangement seems the same as when kids go stay with family members or close friends for the summer sometimes. So no government standards and junk, just the adults making sure everyone feels ok with it. I assume not calling her by her name still and blurring her out when she's on camera is to keep her from going to school and having everyone knowing all of her private business. I suspect kids who have been in the system don't want kids at school to know when they've been in the system before or even just knowing things they have no business knowing but still might want people to hear their story in some way if it helps others.
@laartje24
@laartje24 2 жыл бұрын
Someone also brought up the concern in another video of employers googling her in the future. Depending on the employers point of view (cough short sightedness and strerotyping) having been in the system might be a bad look on her and cause her issues with getting jobs in the future. It shouldn't, but sadly it happens.
@songoftheblackunicorn666
@songoftheblackunicorn666 2 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand why you feel you need to support a system that creates it's own business. Foster care begets more foster care, more drug addicts, more institutionalized people and more reciticisim. I will pray for the children and the parents that they will all come to know goodness and who they are meant to be and that anyone who would stand in the way of this family becoming their best selves and being permanently reuninted be cursed with the amount of harm they cause this family and society.
