New Zealand's bowel cancer screening programme has reached a major milestone, distributing two million home-screening kits since its national roll-out in 2017.
Health Minister Dr Shane Reti announced at an event in Penrose that the programme has detected 2495 cancers, with a third caught at an early stage, offering over a 90% chance of five-year survival.
Bowel cancer remains the second most common cancer in NZ, with around 3300 diagnoses and over 1200 deaths annually.
