Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is a systematic process that helps us choose the best maintenance technique to manage risk and is based on 4 principles:
1. Preserve system functions
2. Identifying failure modes
3. Prioritise failure modes
4. Manage the consequences
In this short video presented by Matthew Laskaj, you will hear about how you can use RCM to choose between:
- Reactive / Run to failure (RtF)
- Preventive Maintenance (PM)
- Predictive Maintenance (PdM)

Good afternoon! You have interesting videos. At home, they came up with the idea of counting risks in monetary form. The probable amount of refusal at the settlement date is calculated by multiplying the losses (industrial, environmental, damage to human health and life) by the probability of failure. We consider the probability of failure in an exponential way. Can you tell me where to see the methods for calculating the probability of failure in cash?

Hello, I am glad you found them useful, this is a great question. DNVGL has an excellent recommended practice DNVGL-RP-G101, see Fig D-2 This is a decision risk matrix which is maintenance specific and includes safety, environment and economic risk. It is biased towards risk based inspection of offshore topsides static mechanical equipment, but I have found it can be used in a number of other circumstances. The FMEA standard IEC 60812 is also a good reference. Of course, the good old RCMII book also talks about this in Fig 5.14 and Appendix 3. Hope that helps.

@@projectengineeringmanagement Great, thanks! Still looking for a solution to such a question: How to determine the effectiveness of the repair impact? For example, you have not done the maintenance of the pump, which is necessary for 2000 hours of operation. How much will the probability of failure increase if you do not do the service that the manufacturer recommends? I want to understand, if we exclude the recommended works, how much the risks of failure will increase.

@@AlexGoldobin Hi, for this you would need more data and I suggest you look at concepts such as FMECA and understand the failure modes. You should also look into the reliability concepts in more detail rather than RCM such as Weibull analysis to understand the reliability (or unreliability) of the system better.
