This was my speech to the graduating class of 2016. I just wanted to be real with them, thinking a lot about what I would’ve wanted to hear 10 years prior when I was sitting in their position. I’m so grateful for the honor and the opportunity to speak on this special occasion.

Thank you all for the kind words and positive feedback. I'm so glad to hear that the simple things I had to share can have an impact. No matter what age you are out there, learn how to be passionate in whatever you do, and learn how to be the best you can be when it comes to relationships!

You're an amazing public speaker, Phil! I was captivated throughout the whole 13 minutes. It was humorous, touching, realistic, and inspirational, all at the same time. :) You have a beautiful mind and soul. I'm not surprised that your speech was amazing, for that beauty is reflected through your videos and movies. :)

it would have been cool to receive a speech like this when i graduated. he's said so many things i needed to hear at the time: such as expecting to try different jobs.. don't expect to follow a single path... being kind of lost, scared about the future is normal. it's great to hear that stuff. everyone made it seem back then we'd all be doing great & glamorous things after graduation. i had an image of what i expected to happen and what i would be doing. when those things didn't happen i became so depressed & felt so worthless. it still hasn't been that long since my graduation and i'm still not where i want to be.. but i know i'm not the only one and that's comforting. it makes me feel like i'm not the weird alien. it's normal. i'll get there someday. i'll be ok. we'll be ok.

i remember watching this for the first time when it first came out, right after i graduated high school (class of 2016), and thinking that it was super good even though it wasn't entirely applicable to me yet because frankly, i was still a young naive teenager. now, rewatching 4 years later, after graduating college (c/o 2020), i can say it's just as good but means so much more now because i actually understand everything in the speech because they are all things that i have experienced them myself. especially learning to humanize your parents, and how career and relationships are like the #1 things in your life right now. wonderful speech, phil, thank you so much for everything throughout the years :')

Phil, you are so amazing. That speech was amazing, and I appreciated the relationship portion and to reminder to you love your family. It's so easy to lose yourself in a relationship, and think that you are nothing without them. It is so important to take care of yourself, treat yourself right, and that's often forgotten. Your speech was very down to earth. Short and sweet.
