I am 69 and the only time have fallen is when I went to throw out some trash when seen some Styrofoam laying in a ditch wich I was picked it but instead of turning around I went to back up and my feet lost traction in loose white rock and fell hard on my side it bruised my left hip and caused me to be sore for over a week.

I’m getting shaky on stepping stool while hanging bird feeders. This getting older , 75, stinks. Will is terrific explains EVERYTHING. So thankful for his channel

the lunge routine looks especially useful here, there's also a video on toes (20% - 20%! - of foot reflexes rely on how our toes function), & a video of his throwing & catching a small bouncy ball against the wall for a minute every day to help with stability - obviously avoiding falls is a concern for me

Hello Will. Thanks for your videos. I find my falls are usually when I am changing direction. Like turning from a bench to the fridge, or often, when standing up from my desk and moving to one side or the other too quickly. I TRY to think more now I have a problem, but just sometimes it just happens. Keep up the good work. Bye from Queensland.

Practice these exercises until they become automatic reaction. About 10 years ago, I was rushing to a meeting and stubbed my toe on the uneven pavement. Forward momentum resulted in my face smacking the concrete sidewalk. I rushed into the store and bought a package of frozen peas for my face. That prevented a black eye but had to pay for a crown on my broken front tooth.

Many thanks. Looking where I put my feet has helped me prevent falls. It was also a problem when I had hypotension and my blood pressure suddenly dropped and I felt giddy. My cardiologist recommended I just steady myself by touching something eg a wall and wait a minute or so until my blood pressure corrected itself. It worked. Your book was helpful. Thanks.

I had a friend who was pretty large and she fell one evening and was severely injured. She came out of a store that didn’t have its parking lot lights on yet. There was a parking stop directly in front of the door. She was carrying her purchase and tripped over the parking stop and went down very hard. She tried to catch herself but only succeeded in shattering both of her arms. It took multiple operations and years of rehabilitation but she never fully recovered. ☹️

The exercises are great, but what happened to me was I tripped, and saved myself, but the leg that got caught spasmed in a millisecond and I tore my hamstring and partially tore the tendons of the adductor. Something like that happens every time. It freaks out and spasms. I don't understand why it tears if it didn't overstretch. It's the opposite, contracting. So frustrating.

When I was 55, I fell and broke both bones in my lower left leg. I wasn't near a wall, and I couldn't stop myself with the lunge method, since I was tangled up with a vacuum cleaner 😲. Needless to say, I fear falling again. I use avoidance by trying to make every move and step deliberately. And I don't rush. SLOW DOWN!

I fell on broken uneven pavement - might as well have been rocks. Landed hard on right upper arm with sharp impact to shoulder. X-ray showed a dislocated shoulder and a hairline fracture to the ball portion of that ball and socket joint, plus there was massive bruising from shoulder to elbow. Six months later, with proper physio and faithfully doing the prescribed exercises, I’m now swimming a hour every other day or so. My strategy since the fall is simple: Consciously lift your feet & MOVE VERY SLOWLY on uneven surfaces. Then if you happen to trip up, there’s very little forward momentum to take you down.
