Quick comparison of the Evergoods CTB26 and the recently updated Alpha One Niner Evade 1.5 which are two of the best edc bags I have featured over the past year. Both have a versatile size and excellent build qualities, but have a few similarities and differences which might make it difficult to decide which one might be best for you.
Which bag do you prefer? Any other comparisons you would want to see?

The layout of the Evade gives you more compartment space when you're not carrying a laptop. Neat trick.

Great video as always. Loved seeing you as a guest on the NN podcast as well. The CTB26 is the GOAT in my opinion. Question on the Tortuga compression cube, is that the new release they are supposed to drop soon?? Been waiting on those!

Thank you for watching and for checking out the podcast!:) the CTB continues to be the one to beat for me, and yes that is the upcoming packing cube that will be released next month I believe

Glad you did this video. I previously owned the CTB26 for EDC for several months and I LOVE the layout fo the bag, it's practically perfect. But, as you mentioned I couldn't deal with how often it cut into my lower back. There are community mods like putting a small towel or pillow in the framesheet compartment, but it's not ideal, especially in such an expensive bag... The CTB26 also was impossible to carry on just one shoulder; you have to wear it on both shoulders or else it just slips off and lead to many spilled coffee's...lol Ultimately, I sold the CTB26 and just put in an order for an Evade 1.5 in 630 Twill hoping the harness system will offer a more comfortable carry on my back, but I'm debating if I should have gotten the Evade 1.0X as I think it looks much better for work, and offers better weather resistance with the TPU'ed zip and better carry handle. 21L is too little for me, but it seems like the Evade 1.5 carries more than 25L itself...

Thank you for watching! That’s unfortunate to hear how many people are running into the lower back issue, I agree I wouldn’t want to do some type of hack with a bag this pricey. The evade back panel seems like it should fit more people and the the twill seems line a cool fabric

Hi Danny, Before I started buying into EG a few years back, I saw these comments as well. But liked what they were doing and bought the CPL 28 and CHZ 26, both about 19-19.25”. I have a 21” torso so these ride high on me but when I loosen the straps, the shoulder part curves in so the pack not touching my lower back. I think someone should do a video on torso length, traps width and girth, and back curvature to show how packs will sit onto your back. That’s why I prefer having load lifters because if you pack where the weight will tilt outward from the back, the load lifters will get it back close inward onto your traps and back. I found that comfort depending on your use cases (for me during travels or long walks), it trumps look and feel or design and function as I end getting rid of it like the PD 45L.

Thank you for the comparison! I was debating between those two bags. Overall, the CTB26 is taller but seems to hold a tiny bit less of things.

These two are HOF for bags. Have had both and sadly offloaded both, I do have a CTB on the way though. The evade is a stellar EDC bag especially for the admin organization. The CTB really shines for the pouch user and person who might carry a bit more. Great review!

Perhaps the reason the CTB feels smaller despite its larger listed volume is that some of the volume is dedicated to its auxiliary compartments, as they all have independent volume.

@@dannypacks Awesome! I can't wait to see it. I'm very excited to see what that bag is all about. I always enjoyed their Setout bags more than their Outbreaker bags and as awesome as their latest 40L travel bag is, I kinda feel like I might end up leaning towards this lite version.

Thank you for watching and for the support! I haven’t had a chance to check out the 26l gr1 but based on my experience with the main compartment in the 34l gr2 I would say the capacity of the main compartments is pretty similar

Hi Danny, thanks as always for the video! One thing I’m puzzling over is their listed dimensions, which indicates the Evade 1.5 is smaller - 18.5 x 12-9 x 7 vs 19 x 12 x 8 for the CTB 26. You say however the Evade feels larger (and visually I’m inclined to agree). Do you have any view on how to reconcile this?!
@jonuiuc
@jonuiuc 4 ай бұрын
I've learned to never get to caught up in listed dimensions (or liter ratings), the methodology each brand uses to determine them is not the same and hard to compare. If in practice the evade is bigger, its bigger.

Nice, I lean towards the evade, I like the shape is built to stand. And the style of laptop access fits better with how I’d use it. Ctb would be good on top of rolling luggage tho. So evade more for edc and ctb more for travel, though each is more than capable for both.
@Nutsackfart

That front section and admin pocket don't expand at all. They are basically useless. A couple reviews mentioned this. The ctb looks ugly but wins at everything else
@dannypacks
@dannypacks 4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and good points all around! Agree they can both work for a variety of situations but that the CTB might be a little better for travel vs the evade for edc
@jonuiuc
@jonuiuc 4 ай бұрын
@@Nutsackfart I dunno what one would put in an admin section or front pocket though that would require it to expand? I would have maybe just some pens and cables and a battery bank. I prefer most of the volume be in the main compartment and the bag to stand. The folding down front admin is a big win as it provides easy visibility and in and out while it’s open and sitting next to you, so the CTB loses for that usage. Also if you ever hold a tripod the external straps above the bottle pockets are really useful.
@Nutsackfart
@Nutsackfart 4 ай бұрын
@jonuiuc I drive long hours so it might be beneficial if you're sitting facing it with open admin. I drive at night. I've had a couple bags I find quick access pockets better in my use case bc I get used to muscle memory on where to reach. I owned both of these and returned both. I ended up keeping aer city pack and gave it to wife bc she liked it and I purchased a knack pack series 1. It's like a tom bihn synic 30 but better for me. This bag is crazy underrated. The series 2 isn't as good either
@jonuiuc
@jonuiuc 4 ай бұрын
@@NutsackfartI had the series 2 and gave it to a friend, I found I liked a Recycled Firefighter 24+ for that sort of expandable usage, but I usually just limit that to one bag travel as it fits a lot a lot and when unpacked the thing compresses down to a daypack just like the knack. I'm really not a quick access guy I guess, for backpacks its either on or off, I use them more for hauling w/ hands free. If I need a bag to access while I move around it ends up being a small sling or a trad shoulder camera bag.
