Thanks for having me on to play this! It’s one of my favorite gaming experiences. I never thought I’d be able to play SMB like this and even watching it back now it still kind of blows my mind how well it all worked.

I wish nintendo put these kind of rom hacks on the online service to give it more value

When i first played smb1 i was disapointed when i found out how 2 player mode works, this hack made my dream come true!!

What if they made 2 player co-op in super mario bros. 3 😆 And I mean like this one , not one at a time.

This is so awesome. Just last week I found someone's commented source code for Super Mario Bros. and after studying it generally for a few hours I was thinking that this very thing should be possible given the unused space in memory and the way the functions to handle Mario and Luigi are laid out. Seeing that somebody else had the same idea and got it to really work is just amazing to see. It really makes me wonder if this was a planned game mode for a while, and then they just thought it would be too confusing for people who are just discovering platformers. Maybe that and sprite flicker made them hesitant to do it, but since Mario Bros. was co-op in nearly the same way but just on a static screen it makes sense that they would have at least tried that in this engine. Having this in wide screen with something like Mario Maker 2 would be so much damn fun, especially through online play.

Wow, I'm really impressed that the rom hack creator was able to get the game run so smoothly with 2 players. Also, I mentioned you doing a collab with Lair in your last livestream. Funny that.

I think it's really cool how someone took the time to make a mod that add 2 players in a way that Nintendo themselves would be proud of.

See this is the reason why Local multiplayer co-op is the best, just wait few minute then friendly fist will flying around to distract each other.

I've been having kind of a rough time lately, but this video made me laugh several times, and I severely needed it. I could see my brother and I playing it with this hack and acting the exact same way.

It's really cool that you both had so much fun with this hack. Super Mario Bros originally intended to have co-op, much like its predecessor Mario Bros, but co-op was cut do to hard-ware limitations. It's just so cool to see that idea come to life with this hack.

The manual for SMB 1 calls him "fiery mario"

Okay, well to save you some frustration, lemme tell you how to run this for anyone who doesn’t know: you need the patch file (by CorpseGrinder. Google Super Mario Bros Two Players Hack) which will be an RSN file for...SOME reason I don’t understand. Whatever. Change the “rsn” extension to “rar.” Unzip/extract the new file with the “rar” extension. There will be two files, a “read me” (txt) file and an “xdelta” file. Save the xdelta file. Now you need the original smb rom. I won’t say where to get it but you NEED to make sure the rom is the same one listed on the site (under rom/ISO information) or this won’t work. Get the rom and also get an xdelta (or “delta”) rom patcher. Select the rom as the source and the xdelta file as the patch. Apply the patch. Open the new patched file in an emulator and this should run. Boom. NO ONE explained ANY of this to me so yeah, there you go. If you’re using a SNES mini, import the game you patched into hakchi. Allow it to apply a second patch. Use KachiKachi as your emulation core.

That was the most hilarious Mario gameplay I've ever seen. Well done! It's easy to see why Nintendo decided not to do Mario co-op, even for seasoned players it's confusing.
