2 Railroad Diamonds right next to a 4 track railroad crossing with a long CSX mixed freight train with DPU passing over the Norfolk Southern main line! Awesome trains in Muncie, Indiana. Also we see how a hi-rail pickup truck gets on the railroad tracks. This unusual railroad crossing has railroad diamonds only a few feet away. Not many places where there are railroad diamonds right next to a public sidewalk and public RR crossing. I included the Google Maps in this video so that you can see how close the diamonds are to the road. I also filmed both sides of the crossing. We see a motel just to the north of the crossing and you can get a room to watch the trains. Muncie, Indiana is trying to create a railfan viewing platform just to the west of this crossing and I show the area that is proposed. The local railfans told us about it but I don't have any other details. I went to Muncie with my friend Scott who has the KZfaq channel called 1960gambit. Check out his videos and subscribe! There are also 2 other railroad diamonds just to the west of this location and I will have videos posted of them once I figure out the problem with my other camera that I filmed them with. I filmed this on September 24, 2021.

That is great that Municie is going to put in a rail fan observation platform. With that many trains coming through each day, that is a big number for these days. Those trains were long ones. Gonna be seeing lots of grain trains With the harvest going on now. The farmers i know have had a good year with good yield with both soybeans and corn. Enjoy as always, watching video of the cat and dogs. Ya'all take care.

A few of those have to be 4 lane crossings of US Highway's. Also as a friend pointed out probably one of the last RR overpass constructed complete with jaded green PC emblems. Its now on an abandoned line made into a bikepath. Even used to laugh about how the Monon conductor better have good seat cushions as they clomped across 13 RR Xings from.Monon to South Bend

Surprised the NS line isn't continuous welded rail. The first train must be two put together (another percission railroading special) thought there would be a mid train dpu at double start of the double stack and/or a dpu on the end.

Thank you for going over to Muncie, Indiana and documenting these trains! Muncie, Indaina appears to be an interesting train watching location. Forty trains a day sounds like a nice amount of train traffic so that a railfan could catch a good number of trains in a four or five hour period. Hello Jaw Tooth. Think the middle dpu is controlled from the front engine by I think WiFi or radio link, but the power is its own. As for both controll and power from the front, you would need a lot of cables and at least 2 on each end of each wagon (car there in the USA), 4 for each wagon. The coupling of our 800 series multiple passenger connectors are enormous for the controll and the power are also big especially the high voltage ones. The cost alone would be astronomical but the reliability would be poor, unless you fitted very expensive connectors. I worked at Wetinghouse Brakes in Chippenham UK, one of the big problems is the connectors as they have to withstand weather, dirt, grease and all sorts of other things. You can imagine the problen with say 400 wagons times a minimum of 4 per car, which is 1600 connectors. The usual connectors are male and femail. But if a wagon was reversed you have to fit a reliable connector that fits into it's self making things even more complicated. Thanks for you great videos. Loved the ones where you met Shoostring.

Yes -- distributed power is radio-controlled but, like all locomotives (as distinct from slugs), the power itself is from that locomotive's diesel engine.

cool, hanging out in my hometown! Where that first NS train came through used to keep going straight instead of joining the far east-west track. it then ran right up Madison street from about at the McDonalds all the way up to where the gas station now is. was a small yard there too. There used to be a whole lot more tracks where you were filming as well and a roundhouse and cooling tower to the west
