You are underselling the refresh. One of the biggest changes is the suspension. The Gen 1 uses R1T components so it was always a compromise in handling and comfort and noise. The gen 2 has unique components that have different part numbers from the R1T and thus are more comfortable yet handles better without the noise of the gen 1. Additionally they stiffened the body for the gen 2 which translates to comfort and handling as well. The heat pump and smaller battery and less wiring means less weight which increases efficiency and handling. They added a subsystem for the 12v which will result in the lowest phantom drain They added sensors for key by watch or apple key. Which would also reduce the phantom drain if your house has keys close to the car. You missed the adaptive headlights the cameras are now 4k 60fps Uses 2 top of the line Nvidia processors Gen 1 is also going to be on a legacy software stack. All development going forward will be for gen 2 with gen 1 getting the B team developers. Ambient lighting on gen 1 may be coming but not as good as gen 2. I have a gen 1, but also have a gen 2 incoming.

If everyone put off to wait for the next version, an updated [thing], then nobody would every commit. Updates and refreshes are part of an evolving design process. You have a fantastic vehicle, enjoy using it while it serves your families needs.

I own a 2024 Gen1 R1S. People complaining about the suspension are nitpicking. It's the best daily driver I've ever owned, even compared to the Cadillacs, Tahoes, Durangos, and Dodge vehicles I've had.

Enjoy your videos. Thanks for the efforts involved. BTW, based on a few tech videos on batteries (Engineering Explained & one on Electric Vehicle Society by Jeff Dahn) and some reading; I would adjust the comment it is okay to charge to 100% daily. While there is definitely less impact than on a NMC battery, it is still better for a LFP battery to not charge it to 100% daily. I understand there is a need to charge to 100% at times for calibration needs. The Rivian person in an Out of Spec video in a quick Q&A implied no change to their battery charging recommendations between the two types of batteries. But, that was a like a 20 second sound bite so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some different recommendations ultimately. I think the LFP option is great and agree the range delta for “local” use is similar because of the ability to charge to 100% more often without the negative impact (vs the NMC battery). But, for me, I would still have the charge limit set for 80%-ish day to day depending on my daily needs. I wouldn’t be worried about doing 100% from time to time either, just not daily unless my driving needs required it. Basically, it is better for the battery to do like 80%-50% vs 100%-70%. It is harder on batteries near 100% / 0% LFP included. LFP just can deal with the 100% much better than a NMC one. But “sitting at” 100% is still harder than “sitting at” say 80% even on a LFP battery. Anyway, normally I don’t post comments with this type/“constructive” feedback. So my apologies if it comes off wrong.

Thank you for this content. 24:00 A Fisker!! We are keeping our R1T. We are going to buy the subscription for Googlecast, hotspot, etc. when that is available. Eventually, we may add an R3 to our stable when that exists.

Yes, Gen 2 is a solid update especially for the R1S. Continues their general trend of making good decisions. Also, I can see how the roll out of the Gen 2 helps with the R2's development in a variety of ways. For example the new R1's quad front dual motor I suspect will be the R2's rear dual motor for the R2's tri motor config. The software to support tri motor R2's configs will get mostly "flushed out" via the R1's tri motor configs. I make no claim all of Rivian's decisions make sense and/or I agree with. But, in general they seem like on a solid path forward. I think some other mfgs are also on solid paths.

Honestly, we love our quad motor R1S especially before the pre price increase in March 2022. The only thing I wish Rivian would do is to make the Driver+ be usable on all divided roadways instead of what they have now. The ADAS is all I need at least for the next decade. I also wish the front and rear cameras would be a little more high def (the sides look to have more resolution). Just like Tesla, the first EV model is always over designed and then improve on efficiencies. If you forever are waiting for the latest update, you'll forever be waiting until no more.

The efficiency is a major upgrade the Gen 1 is "rated" at 2.6 miles per KWH and Gen 2 is "rated" at 3 mile per KWH, its a dramatic increase in efficiency.

Tom with State of Charge said the R2 ride quality current gen was D or D-. I know you guys drive Teslas so maybe you are used to a harsher ride but wondering what grade you would give it?

Not Jealous. Seriously, I’m just so thrilled about my Gen 1 quad motor adventure package there’s just no room for jealousy. When I’m done with this one, I’ll trade up for whatever generation they’re gonna have at the time and, life goes on friends. Life goes on 😊
