You should for the root especially otherwise the root will be flush, would be lucky if it bends. I learned from personal experience. I understand the difficulty on the one side of the pipe but how he is doing it - bringing the pipe down and bending over the pipe. When you look at it, it’s like a 5g almost. Or other options is using you’re left hand.
