4-20 mA Transmitter Wiring:
Types: 2-Wire, 3-Wire & 4-Wire
2-wire Transmitter connection:
This configuration supplies power and 4-20mA signal over a two wire loop connection between the transmitter and the control panel.
3-wire Transmitter connection:
The transmitter and control panel can use the same 24V and 0V dc supply lines.
A common power supply can be used for both the transmitter and the control panel.
4-wire Transmitter connection:
The transmitter and control panel use separate power supplies. The 4-20mA signal flows through two separate cable cores between the transmitter and control panel.

2 wire and 3 wire transmitter, Here you describe power supply module is separate but in DCS/PLC 24v power source providing through same AI card... Good explanation ....

it also depends from PLC to PLC or DCS to DCS. Read that Controller/Module wiring manual.

This is the PSU (Power Supply Unit). Its input is 230 Vac and output is 24 VDC. It comes in amperes like 5 amp, 10 amp etc. and is easily available in electrical shop.
