Do it every year! You weren't kidding when you said this was life-changing. When I had been scheduled for this surgery five weeks ago, I had been engaged a week. One night, he just left in the middle of the night saying he couldn't go through with it, the surgery and the marriage. So in a sense, this procedure saved me from a marriage that would not have stood the test of the "in sickness and in health" vow.

My son just got diagnosed with this condition.....hes in his 30's......your video put me so at ease...even though the whole thing is so so scary....thank you so much ....you dont realize all the people you ve helped....stay safe and healthy!! Thank you again!!!!!

I had an aortic ON-X mechanical valve replacement done 02/10, I was released on the 15th. I didn't require any assistance at home. I was fully mobile and driving within two weeks to go to medical appointments. I never had any pain, just what I would call slight discomfort. I was anxious about having my sternum broken, but it was a real non event. My ON-X valve ticks like the third hand on an expensive watch. I'll take the tick compared to the nauseating sound my biological valve was making. "It sounded like a "squish, squish, squish." Taking warfarin has been a non event. I'm in my mid 50's and found the hole process to be easy to cope with. I thank all of the Doctors and nurses at the "Asper Center" in Winnipeg MB. They made my experience, dare I say, pleasant.

Today is two weeks after my aortic valve replacement. At this moment I am having a little bit of pain on my chest area mostly due to the braking of my sternum. I get very cold through the day and for some reason I sweat every night and sometimes I have to change my shirt 3 to 5 times at night. Other that that I am feeling amazing!! Your video gave me a lot of useful information and I'm happy you are doing well.

I really appreciate both these updates. I watched them both. I am 52, am bicuspid and will need to get valve replacement some day. It is very informative and encouraging. I would love it if you continue to do annual updates.

I have had my arorta valve replaced twice up to now my first tisue valve i had done aged 65 and then again last year at the age of 71 first valve was a pigs valve and the second valve they put a cows valve in .didnt want to be on warfrin so declined a mechanical valve i found watchin these video.s very helpful and helped me alot both of my surgeries whent very well and i recovered very quick thank god good luck to anybody facein heart valve replacement you will be fine .

Thank you Edward for taking the time to do your videos. I got a Surgery for an Aorta Dissection with Valve Replacement last August. I am now "aware" of my INR, Valve clics, dental, trips, ... I realize that I am not alone in that situation and we all live the same story. I feel better knowing it's all normal. Philippe

Hi Edward, it's been a while you've not posted anything yet. How are you doing, how's the valve and the warfarin doing. I pray that you are doing well. It's been 2 years also since my mitral valve replacement, I would say it is the best decision I made, not like I had any left. Warfarin don't do me well but overall I hv been better. Many thanks for this video. It gave me ideas on how to help my husband journey through his second year after open heart surgery. He naps a lot, when walking he gets out of breath and needs to rest a minute, and has become more sedentary. Over all he has made very good progress, but facing his own mortality has changed his usual, upbeat personality to a more gloomy one. God bless us all ~ ~ ~

Very interesting and informative....thank you. I just had a TAVR procedure 4 days ago at age 65. I had very severe aortic stenosis due to a bicuspid aortic valve. Luckily no coronary heart disease. That I know of you do not hear this valve. I have Edwards sapien type.

I’ve had three open heart surgeries and now I have a mechanical mitro valve and I have ptsd real bad and I go days without sleeping. Because after my second surgery I went home and was napping and went into cardiac arrest and luckily my fiancé was there and helped keep me with oxygen until the paramedics got there and then I was shocked three times and brought back. I’m so scared of everything now. Even drinking caffeine. I used to be so care free and. Now I’m not.

I had the aortic valve replaced 2 and half months ago..I too have the on-x valve..I'm 44 I had 3 open heart surgeries. 2 repairs once at 9 and then 34..the the replacement..thnx for helping for the future..my concern is alcohol...I have drank twice in the last 2 months only 1 beer..because i was nervous.

Had the surgery late September. 4 weeks back to my desk job. 6-7weeks was climbing into my treestand deer hunting. Crossbow only no guns. No issues. Now 11 weeks sternum still little sore but better everyday

Thanks for making these videos Edward. I'm 30 and in a very similar situation to the one you were in - valve fine and then seemingly fell off a cliff. Headed to the cardiologist soon to talk about next steps and found comfort in listening to your experience. Have you heard of the Tria valve? it's a polymeric valve which has the durability of a mechanical valve but without the need to be on anticoagulants. It's in a human feasability study phase at the moment - results come out 2024. If we ever need to get re-operated at least we might stand a chance at getting out of the commitment to warfarin!

We learned a lot on your experience. What do you think will it be better to take the animal valve in stead of mechanical for a 54 yr old. There's too much complicated After care with the mechanical valve. I would prefer to have a quality life for a shorter time than a dependancy life for a longer time. Can you perhaps recommend a person who had a Aorta replacement from an animal valve?

What about your sternum no more popping or clicking from sternum and now can you lift 40 or 45 lb dumbell. Dou mind also telling me about squats with bas and 45lb plates, 135lb or 200 lb. Thanks

Do you ever get dizzy. Do you feel different inside the valve. I do. Sometimes Dizzy. I have to work less and take more vare of myself. Its been 3 years

Long life brother. I am leaning towards a tissue valve.

Will have to get my aortic valve replaced within the next couple of months. I'm surprised even thought you have that microphone placed near your chest, we can't hear any clicking noise on the video (I literally put my headset on and pushed the volume to the max). I'm afraid of that ticking because I'm an amateur singer and I record myself and perform on stage sometimes. I'm afraid I won't be able to do it anymore. Had to stop triathlon and road cycling competitions ten years ago because of my heart troubles. Don't want to get into that frustration again with music. Thanks for the video!

Hi. Thank you for sharing all this information. Maybe I missed it but - after the surgery you have a urine catheter but what about number 2? Did you need help with whipping (can you move your arm behind your back?)? Also if it's possible can you tell about having sex after the surgery (any difference)?

Is Mechanical valve sound will distrub your sleep? Beside sound do you feel it when sleep?

thanks for this! I appreciated your prior videos I viewed before my surgery I had in April 2019 here in victoria BC. Got the On-X aortic carbon valve and its been 2.5 months now. First 4 weeks was a lot more pain than I expected, and I took max dose tylenol for about 5 weeks straight. First 3 weeks I had to sleep in a chair, not a bed. Still walked every day, starting at 1/2km. Now I do hikes up to 8km and feeling great. Did not have any real emotional change, which is good. My type of mechanical aortic valve (On-x) only needs 1.5-2.0 INR starting next month - a bit newer tech. INR has been at 2.0-2.1 for weeks, and I use the home tester once a week. I will get a dental implant next month - but my wife is a dentist and I am dental hygienist and this is all familiar to me. Oh I had Afib 4 weeks ago, had to be shocked in the hospital emergency ward - that sucked, and the beta blocker is necessary to prevent this. Only issue now is being on beta blocker for the first year - this seriously cramps my style as I like to hike and bike hard many times a week, but this drug is suppressing heart rate very low, however the beta blocker effects are felt only when working out. I don't quite understand your need for daily salads? I just eat normally, with maybe 2 beers and 3 glasses of wine per week. I have more difficulty to try diet to lose weight now though, which I need to get back to doing.

My aortic valve opens for 2.5 when normale is 3 can this be a problem the cardioloog says i dont have to worry and in the future dont have to worry. But im scared like shit right now any tips to progress this?

When the doctor changes your level of coagulation it's only a temporary measure so you don't bleed out during the procedure. Long term if you keep the levels then you have a good chance of a clot but short term, your chances of a clot are low.

Hi Edward. I got the on-x valve about 10 months back on the aortic position and my life has become miserable due to it. The clicking noise has given me severe psychological distress. I have severe anxiety and depression due to the clicking noise. I just cant sleep at night. My mental state has become a complete mess and im under extreme duress due to the clicking noise. Im thinking of getting the mechanical valve replaced with a ross procedure. The mechanical valve is functioning normally but it's ruined my life completely. Im thinking of getting it surgically replaced with a ross procedure and I have offers from at least 15 countries for the ross procedure, including Canada and Brazil. Please tell me what you think of all this.

Very inspirational. The best part is you talk about planes and travelling. Can you tell more about yours experience of planes during take up or down. Does it matter? And also about weight lifting how much you lift in a gym.and also about running one or two year after.🖒

I watched your previous video and am currently watching this one. I am scheduled to have my aortic valve surgery on the 25th. I am only 16 years old, so I’m very anxious about everything. I don’t know if you could tell me what valve you would personally recommend for me to have because of my age? Did you have to put pacemaker?

This is so hard for me to chose... like I want a mechanical cause I’m LITERLLY 14 and won’t have to have a surgery every 10-15years. But I don’t went to have the stress with all the medicine and checking all that stuff and my diet and all... but I also like the idea of tissue cause u can just carry on with your life without stress until you have to replace your valve again.

and before any open heart surgery was performed , the main people that worked with the surgeon i had , they all asked when i had any dental exam , i never had complaints , so i never really went into have a full exam . well the first thing i had to do is set up an appointment with my dentist , i thought to myself oh damn my results are not gonna pass a dental clearance , but i passed the dental exam , very lucky no cavaitys or infections or it could of really post poned my operation . so i am sure people that maybe facing open heart surgery for valve replacement , will know you will be told and given a paper to give to your dentist to have any xrays taken. and for my entire life i must take 4 500 mg pills of AMOCILLIAN 1 HOUR before dental work , then im taking aspirin 81 mg metoporial as bata bloker and for my new valve blood thinners every day warfarin

I just did mine 11 June 2019 and just last two days the valve started to skips and stops for a seconds and continue working ? I went to the doctor and he said it normal and that is how it does to all people. I want to know have you had anything like that? 🤷🏿‍♀️

Off course it goes wrong in the end. But they dont have it. Sad Also heard some people in the world live longer with valve because it is more check ups off the heart and. vains. Hugs from norway

I had aorta surgery in 2022 and at 1 year routine check up they said I have severe aortic regurgitation and I must do aortic valve replacement. I'm still paralyzed. What to do? Mechanical valve and warfarin are terrifying to me. Not doing anything is a guaranteed death in 1-2 year. I'm 30 and wish I could be positive like you. I just have dark thoughts and fear.

Did anybody started taking something else then warfarin? there are newer solutions, afcorse not tested as warfarin is.

Vivo com uma valvula metalica há 30 anos (fiz com 17 anos). Tudo isso eh muito mais simples do que a gente imagina.
