Had lots of bikes on my 40ish years riding. Last 5 were a SuperTenere Z then i sold it and bought a FJR1300, that i sold and bought another SuperTenere ZE, than i (stupidly) sold to buy a BMW GS1200Adv (15´) that i rode to Marrocos, the Alpes, etc for two years, and, back "home"...sold it and bought another (my 3th) SuperTenere (a Z (that I prefer and looked for - less to worry about -) 19´ with 17000ks on the clock, in the 60th anniversary colors). Never, ever had a issue whatsoever in any of them. This is THE bike for one that likes long rides and to trust the ride. Missed my S10 so much i couldn´t wait to have one again. Love my S10´s, all I owned, better then any other bike! Amazing reliability amazing comfort, more the enough power, and so enjoyable to ride. Its the bike in which I rode more kms in a single day in my all riding life (1540kms). Unreplaceable. Ps: love the color of yours.

I have several bikes but the ST10 is my love-it-everyday bike. It's a shame that it is so underestimated, because as an ADV bike it can still do everything at least as well and sometimes better than the competition. And what many people don't believe, it can really be ridden in a really sporty way without it becoming strenuous. The fact that it's faster than a 1290 is amazing. At the latest with the ecu flash, air filter and exhaust, the engine gains around 25 HP and 25 NM and literally wakes up. I love it even more since then.

I also switched from a cruiser to an adventure bike. Such a more fun motorcycle to ride and more comfortable. I think you will love the Super T. Ride safe.

A great review. I am about your size, a few inches taller and about a 33 inseam. I currently ride a Victory Vision Tour, which is a great motorcycle, but a bit cumbersome for short rides through town and unpaved roads. I do, however, require a motorcycle that is comfortable and well planted for long miles on Interstates, since I live in South Dakota and many of our towns and cities are far apart. I keep going back to a Super !0 as the best all-around ADV. It seems to have proven itself for reliability, cost of maintenance, has a shaft drive (I hate dealing with chains) and economy. Very much the ADV version of my Vic, but a lot lighter. Thank you again for the review. I enjoy your content.

Have turned on mine 2012 150k km recently and just love it more and more......Beside regular maintenance only replaced chain tensioner with new version. Also remapped the ACU, so now it hase more power and torque....... Great review btw :)

Thanks for this video. I have the T1200 Raid Edition 2018 and excellent bike. The engine is torquy at low rpm and I love that. Just a little inconvenient is the fan on the left side even more when the weather is hot. But very good machine. Comfortable and price is good. My heater grips are still ok and seals fork too ( 28000 kms ). I agree with you about the center stand and I had to choose flat parking every Time. Further more, I have an extension SW Motech on it. V to you

Great video, and I appreciate the review! Good info to have for those of us eyeing the ST. One thing I'd suggest, purely at your discretion, would be to have the conversions for fuel economy pop up on the screen for those of us in The States that find your content. The distances in km are a bit easier to conceptualize or ball park, but the fuel per distance is a complete flip of how the American brain works for fuel economy. Granted, it is easy enough to pop over to google and get a conversion, so it's hardly a must have thing. Hope you enjoy the bike for many years!

I’m on my second Super Tenere. 2 years old and 47,000kms. Zero issues on both bikes. Love them lots!

I have over 40k on mine never had an issue with my heated grips,so yours may be a 1 off,pretty strange but your right about the Oxford they are brilliant. I rode a triumph explorer and ktm 1290 both with their own heated grips and i thought they were crap.You paid a lot for fork seals,in Europe i pay around 200 to 250 euro for both seals,oil and labour.Brilliant bike very underrated .1st one i had was a 2013 and now i have a 2019 great bike.

I have a 2011 model with 67 000km on the clock and it is still going strong. It still looks brand new. My fuel pump broke while it was still under warranty, and I had to replace an oil seal on the diff a year or 2 ago. Otherwise zero issues. Great and reliable motorcycles.

Good video and info. I currently have a Yamaha FZ6 and I'd like to get an adventure bike. The two I'm interested in are the Super Tenere and the Africa Twin. I've had Hondas and Yamahas and they've always been very reliable.

Just starting my search for a larger displacement adventure bike and this one seems to meet most of my requirements and seems reliable and cheaper to service. I'm coming from a BMW RT and service costs on that have gone through the roof in the last two years. I am from Toronto but live in Texas. Small services are now just over $400 USD and my 12K mile large service is now at $1093 USD for my last one. I also had several repeats of the bike not starting after longer rides so time for some change :) Great review and information, thanks.

Right on point. Basically a pickup truck of bikes - will go anywhere a stock truck would go, in comfort too. Mine just turned 100k last month and I would absolutely buy again, especially for the touring scenario. Have taken it on a few 5k+ trips - cannot imagine doing it on any other bike (except RT1200). Takes luggage very well (we moto-camp) but becomes rather top-heavy (will build a trailer). It's a great tourer (subject to windshield setup). If I didn't off-road it, I would put sport-touring tires on it - that would make it handle even better. I have no problem keeping up with most SS in the twisties even on the 50/50s tires. Off-road it's amazing for it's bulk and weight. It handles jeep trails very well - much better I thought it would. Until it gets too sandy/muddy/rocky or too hot or both... Bring a buddy if going where you shouldn't ;) Couple additional meh points: * the stock windshield is meh (at least for me) - lots of buffeting no mater what, but I keep it for the cold/wet riding * the only good thing about Yamaha panniers is that they are frame-less * yes, the yamaha heated grips are meh - mine did not break but take forever heat up and are not hot enough in the winter * Altrider bashplate is awesome but makes oil changes messy (drain hole alignment) and hard (must run a shorter filter - otherwise must take basher off) * I dread doing the valve adjustment on s10 - it may be just as bad as changing clutch on GS/RT o_0 ** loves Rotella but does not like 87 gas at slow speed when hot - does not care otherwise ** ABS can be disabled with a by-pass fuse switch

Very helpful video. I currently own a 2005 (yes 2005) Harley Davidson Ultra Classic that I purchased very used and very abused in 2017. My bike (named Dexter by my wife after the TV show serial killer LOL) has left me stranded on nearly every trip I have taken with it. Some of that is due to the poor condition I purchased the bike and replacing major system components as I go and some of that frankly is because it is a Harley. I like the bike (despite the issues) but it has limited me on where I can go on my trips and sometimes, have taken the bike where it has no business in going (rutted path in Texas prairie as an example lol). I have been flip flopping between the Super Tenere Es and Tenere 700 but have settled on the Super Tenere ES as my next bike. I have some planned trips where this bike, I feel, would be ideal (Ozarks, Alaska, Northeast back country (Maine) and a few other. Your video is very informative and also, wow your bike is beautiful, love the paint job. How much did it cost (ballpark) to have it painted like that?

Great review , identical to my opinion. I have the same issues with the heated grips. Currently the bike is at the Yamaha Dealer to replace them for the 3rd!! time. Last chance for them... One thing you forgott to review: it's the cardan shaft drive, that works pretty well without any problems and works very smooth. Maintenance is very easy. Take care and greatings from germany from another happy XT1200 driver...😉

Love mine (coming from a goldwing). The only little thing that bugs me is the gear indicator going blank when you pull in the clutch. This is my forever bike. Cheers, G.H

Nice review. I think the kickstand is a compromise for all suspension settings. If it leaned enough on 1up setting it would lean too much when in 2 up + luggage setting. At 200lbs, when I ride solo without luggage I typically set in on 1up + luggage which is already a bit higher and leans more on the kickstand. Cheers!

You pretty much nailed it. I think you may have forgot to mention the shaft drive. I ride with a group that only rides the S10 and these guys have put a lot of miles on their bikes. I find S10 riders very dedicated to their bikes and wouldn't touch the competition. We have taken ours on roads not advised on other channels by people who only review this bike but don't own one and it does fine. It is also a great road bike and corners like a champ. You just can't beat Japanese quality and reliability. The S10 is another fine example of best bang for the buck.

Love the video. Hopefully my next bike. Loved the video against the KTM, I was really surprised. Be careful though, you admit to the speeds and you and I are both in Canada... and I can tell you a number of cases where police used video from KZfaq to prosecute a speeder on a bike.

Good review !! I have a WR250R, a Super Tenere and a T7 would give me my little, middle and big ADV / Dual Sports for retirement!!😁I have an 07 FJR 1300 w 87k miles on it. The T12 could be that reliable on off road counterpart to the FJR. It is bomb proof, I just want to adventure now. Thanks

My understanding is that Yamaha will not produce a Euro 5 model so I'm guessing that 2023 or 2024 would be the last year in Canada where we can purchase this bike... Rumors are going hot on internet about a possible Ténéré 900 but hey, these are rumors ;-)

I'm a tad embarrassed, I bought my '19 ST July 2020 and I've only done 25,000Kms and I live in the lower mainland where I can ride almost all year long. Well done you. Having lived in Edmonton for 15 years, I do occasionally miss the sprint up and down Groat.

Nice video, fairly reviewed! I've had my 2015 SuperTenere ES 2.5 years. 60,000 miles on the odo, 33,000 by me. Heated grips still work great. I've had the fork seals replaced, valve adjustment done and replaced the rear drive seal myself ($35). I also replaced the mode switch ($18 ebay). I did have 2WheelDyno reflash the ecu ($225) and love the improved throttle smoothness and response. I get about 45mpg solo, 50mpg with my wife as pillion. I've toured and explored, paved and gravel, in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. TC 2 allows some wheel spin for fun, but still controlled, cornering on gravel as well as small wheelies for crossing obstacles. I don't think you mentioned the joy of shaft drive and the simplicity of its occasional maintenance. I can't imagine dealing with a chain and sprockets again!The bike has never let me down. I love mine and would definitely buy it again. *Favorite tires so far are Michelin Anakee Adventure rear (incredible on cold wet pavement, predictable on gravel), Dunlop Trailmax Mission front (okay on all surfaces, wet or dry). Safe travels~

I love my Super 10! 2012. I’m young and push this thing like a sport bike daily and it’s never gave me any problems. I just wish I could switch off the ABs braking without having to pull fuses. I agree though it’s a do it all bike, that’s why I’ll never buy a Harley or anything other then a ADV bike. FJR has my interest though 🤔

It is also a gorgeous looking bike, a bit lighter and a few more horses is the only thing Yamaha has to update, of course the newest electronics is a sure thing too. The looks really fit its purpose, especially the side air intake and the way Yamaha made the rear suspension is genius. The quality of the bike is unsurpassed, the engine and drivetrain just works year in year out. Maybe the problem for Yamaha is that this bike will be too expensive to make today with its tight tolerances!! I hope not. Come on Yamaha, update this bike, and not with a 3 cylinder engine.

30k miles and 9 years on my Super Tenere. Bought new. Perfect all-weather tourer. Superb low speed handling. When I am 3,000 miles from home in the middle of nowhere I demand 100% reliability and Yamaha delivers. Am not looking for thrills. Would I buy another? Yes.

Whatever yall do. DO NOT buy a triumph Tiger. 51k miles on mine (2017) Xcx explorer. Transmission had to be replaced in addition to the clutch. Due to a manufacturer error. A gasket was installed incorrectly at the factory which caused all these issues. Triumph refused responsibility and refused to back their bike. 1 google and you can see the issues with the triumph tiger's slipping under load second gear specifically.

Interesting review. I have a 2014 es model. I’m getting only 300 Kim’s per tank at best and I usually ride around a 100 km/hr. Second is the rear spring which is very underrated, as you notice when you put the side stand down and there’s no lean. Lol. I replaced mine with a heavier one. Problem solved. I still think there’s a lack of power that’s obviously come from factory, so an ECU flash might be in my future ? Thanks for taking the time to review and safe riding 😊

My 2014 has been my only vehicle for 2 years..even after getting clipped by a van and ending up in the lady's front yard. Best bike I've ever owned.

Thank you for posting this. Question - I have a 17 V Storm 650, and I usually do all my maintenance. You pay for your maintenance, is it because the bike requires special ($$$) tools or you don’t like to mess is maintenance? Eg. You paid $250 for parts, and almost double ($450) for labor… ST1200 is my dream bike (computer wallpaper level) - but I will never buy a bike I cannot work on. Again, excellent video, thanks for sharing your wisdom and experiences. Let me know your thoughts.

Great review! I am in the market for a big adventure bike and my search stopped to the Super Tenere , V-strom 1000 or 1050Xt and Ducati Multistrada 950s (the exotic one in this group). I will but it used , around 30-50.000km, year of manufacture starting from 2018. Price point of view they are about the same , with the Ducati a bit more expensive of course.. The Super Tenere is the only one I didn't rode as they are very rare where I live (Eastern Europe). My riding is mixed between urban environment and some weekend touring. Any advice on choosing a bike out of these? Thanks

i ride in Mexico where road maintenance is nonexistent and destroy cars all the time from unknown potholes, i busted my Lexus ES wheel bearings within the first year of a new replacement i look for fuel by 150 miles and i fill about 4.8 gallons at that point

If I turn off Traction Control, does it remember that setting when you power off the bike? Or do you need to set it again? Thanks

The heated grips on mine are absolutely fine. I've had my s10 since new 2017, stock heated grips have been fine. I find the bike's stock seat terrible and changed it to a sergeant seat which was a huge improvement. The standard headlights and auxiliary lights from Yamaha are awful!!! I have backed them up with Denali lights which I wouldn't be without. The reliability of the bike is very good. I also had a fork seal leak on mine. I find touring mode on the bike awful and a waste of time. The fuel injection on the bike in normal road use is not the smoothest but it's ok, I may get the ECU flashed in future to improve this. The bike is fairly heavy 261kg's and heavier than more modern rival machines but it's ok once on the move. I get around 215 miles to the tank on road riding with the tank being 23ltrs max'. Yamaha do not make this machine anymore and was stopped being manufactured in 2020. This was because of the fuel emissions regulations in Europe and the advent of Euro emissions 5. The s10 is euro emissions 4 compliant but Yamaha did not want to do the engine work development on the engine to make it compliant with euro 5. The model is an old model in Yamaha's range, first appearing in 2010. The same fate befell the FJR1300. It is a good bike even now, but does not compete with more modern machinery in its class. It is relatively economic to run this machine, as it can be cheaper than other machines in its class to run. I will be continuing to run my s10. One final thing the brakes on the bike are no more than adequate and do not match the performance of more modern machines in this class. The brakes are also unified so using rear brake pedal will activate the front as well as the use of front brake activates the rear brake, automatically.

Did u flash ecm at all? I have a 2020 and even before I flashed I dont get 450km on a tank light comes on around 300km

I'm very surprised that the ST kept up with a KTM 1290 in a drag race. The ktm has a lot more horsepower and torque and less weight than the ST. I've also read reviews from reliable journalists and regular ST owners who said the ST feels slow for a 1200cc bike. I'm not sure what to think of this.

For a real world test of power do a top gear roll on from 75 kph or so. Yamaha does power right.

But can it do power wheelies in seventh gear?JK Was your bike ecu flashed when you did the test in mexico against the ktm?

The KTM 1290 Super Adventure makes an honest 130hp at the wheel, and 90 ft lbs. The Super Tenere makes 90hp at best. Your friend got a bad launch and there's no chance you keep up with the KTM.

Sometimes it takes a few years for all the problems to come out and sometimes it takes 10 years for all the problems to not come out.... Ive looked at every bike in the market. Theres a lot of gimmick and a lot of plastic and a lot of overpriced, a lot of poor service, and expensive parts and labor, there are a lot of malfunctions. The more sensors and electronics and stuff thats on it the more it breaks... ya its all neat stuff for 10,000 dollars? See thats just it the plastic and the gimicks cost 10,000 dollars and that bike is not double as good as this bike. NO way is it double the bike. Dude you just smoked a 1290 KTM and people call this bike boring... get a header and an exhuast and flash the ECU wont be boring anymore... I dont want sensors and electronics that will break I hear bad stories about every other bike but this one. Think people learn quick not to look at the 10,000 dollar display. Nobody ever says they have problems with this one, but every other bike people have problems with. I cant even tell a difference in it since 2014 its the exact same bike doesnt matter what year you get theyre all the same, perfect. Im gettin one... I wanted a lot of others and looked at everything. Im glad it isnt popular Ill prob get the color and year and milage I want... thanks for the review its about my 30th but I think you put me over the top and this bike in first place.
