Over the last two years I have sourced nearly $300k in inventory for my part-time eBay business. But where am I getting all of that new inventory? There are 8 different places that make up my sourcing strategy, and in this video I talk through each in order of least profitable to most. Thanks for watching!
Here's the string you add to the Facebook Marketplace URL to exclude listings older than 24 hours: &daysSinceListed=1 -- you can adjust the number to suit your needs.

When people, (family, friends, neighbors) learn what I do it often turns into a situation where they “donate or gift” me items they don’t want to haul off to a thrift store or set up a yard sale.

Holy hack! Thank you so much for that amazinggggg tip! I’m so glad I found your channel last month. I think I’ve watched the majority of your videos. I’m not much of commenter. In fact, I’m terrible at liking, commenting, or sharing. However, I will take this opportunity to tell you that nearly every video you’ve produced is chock full of very important nuggets of information. With the exception of you breathing (which it doesn’t seem you do often 🤷🏻‍♀️), it’s as if every second of each episode is pure reseller gold. So thank you! Seriously, you are my favorite youtuber and I truly wish you the best in your endeavors.

That video was FANTASTIC. Thank you for such a great channel! So funny. I am a casual sourcer. My mom was a hoarder so for right now, my sourcing is mostly coming from the garage. But I know some day that will run dry. But I have always loved loved loved a church sale! And you’re right. So hard to find. We have one, once a year in our small area.

I've given up on thrift stores and garage sales. I've been sourcing exclusively at online auctions. Just like your example of the hoarder house, you can get a ton of good inventory for next to nothing. Best are the auction houses that let you take what you want and leave the rest behind. I dropped $1400 on an entire attic full of stuff last week. Made my money back the next day selling 3 items almost instantly. Have about 200 more items I still need to list (I wont list unless I can get at least $20 + ship for an item). Will be a good money maker.

Just happened up on your video - great job! Love how you talk fast, are very detailed and have graphics to show, well done! I subscribed and will definitely be back for more. I've been selling on Ebay for 22 years, sold 55K items and I've never experienced the slow down like I'm seeing now. I've experienced thousand dollar days and most recently days that I have no sales at all, 3 in a row to be specific. I just watched your video on promoted listings and I took your advice and promoted all my listings at 2%. I have almost 1300 items for sale and I'm wondering if you have any comments or suggestions on improving sales for upcoming October 2023.

I've been keeping similar records and Church Sales are also at the top of my list too! I found all of them this summer by signs posted at the Post Office bulletin board in town. I never would have guessed that on-line sourcing could be so lucrative, though. I bid on an on-line auction for the first time this year, but shipping of my "wins" cost more than I paid for the items. I'm finally in the black on that purchase, but won't do it again unless I can pick-up in person.

I have better luck at the Goodwill Outlets/bins than I do at the retail stores. Just this past week I have found turntables, skis, etc. that I have either already sold or am using for myself. I almost never find good quality versions of those in the retail stores. I think the reason I have better luck /at the outlets/bins is because they operate by regularly bringing out new tables piled with stuff. So, these pickers who go when the retail stores open don't necessarily have an advantage at the outlet/bins. I also enjoy the atmosphere there better. It's more of a treasure hunting experience to dig through a pile of random stuff and see valuable items. It's rewarding/fun for me just to treasure hunt. Finding a perfectly working $100 turntable is better than finding a gold nugget after standing out in the elements to pan for gold. 🙂 I wouldn't normally share my secrets with people but I feel a little altruistic if I can help other people go and save things from the landfill.

Canada's a bit different. I find Facebook and garage sales to be mostly a bust. People in my area would much rather donate than spend precious hours holding a garage sale that might net them minimum wage, and they're so spread out that the gas cost becomes a factor. Estate sales of the type you have in the US don't actually exist up here, so that's out. Thrift stores are meh. We have a couple of non chain ones we like, but they all now know how to do sold comps on eBay. Still, they're often the recipients of quirky and unusual things they know nothing about, so they're definitely worth the time. But my two top sources are online auctions and in person auctions. Yesterday I bought a $10 box lot with seven $20 items in it, and it was our worst outing so far. Church sales get a thumbs up from me too. Never know what you'll find. 😎

Hey Justin! I just wanted to let you know that you’re the most informative/helpful youtube reseller there is, by far! I feel like if I do most of these things you talk about I would have great numbers but my biggest gripe with reselling is, if I drive more than 30 minutes to get somewhere and leave empty handed, I get demoralized and I take a break from that type of sourcing, because of this I mostly just thrift and go to the flea market. Do you ever run in to this situation or am I just a cry baby? Thanks for the great videos!
@justinresells
@justinresells 8 ай бұрын
Yes, not every day is a winner. It's easy to look at KZfaqrs and see all their successes but what you don't see are the strike outs, because that doesn't create very compelling content. But yeah, I strike out regularly. I leave empty handed, buy stuff I shouldn't have, etc. Over time you get better of course and this happens less, but it still happens to the best of us! Keep grinding.

estate sales are a good one, but theres some bad. Like over in my area there was, (idk if hes still doing it, hes kinda why i stopped going to them after a few weeks of just seeing him), he was selling them for the estate, but what he was doing was over pricing everything he wanted to resell so its not really feasible to buy them as a visitor to the lot then after the end of the estate sale he would buy everything he wanted at a discounted rate while locking everyone else out of it. But i do 100% agree after that experience, private ones are way better

Hmmm. Church sales in my area I've started to avoid. They are often by donation only. So unless I pick up something I know is an unknown bolo, chances are I'm going to donate more than what I would pay at a garage sale. Garage sales people are trying to get rid of stuff church sales are typically trying to make money. If it's not donation, then they are pricing things at checkout and if I'm only finding bread and butter, there's no way I'm getting a good deal. Most of the church inventory around here is pretty sad. But I had a huge score earlier this year ~ A large tub of wooden Thomas the Train. Luckily priced at $15 and since I was one of the first through the door I was able to score. I made that $15 back on just 1 engine. So I guess I'll keep haunting the church sales.

Living in NYC, my tag sales as we call garage sales are limited to the weather. The summer this year was dead. Hardly any sales. This weekend was rained out and next supposedly the same. Church sales are pretty much non-existent. I’ve been sourcing mostly online from auction houses, thrift stores would be my second choice although they are pretty expensive around me. I have to travel to LI to find decent prices.

Have you ever checked out the flea markets on the West Side (below midtown and in downtown)? Some can be pricey, but there's usually always some good bargains. Also, there is a Goodwill bins store in Queens - it's not for the faint of heart, but can be great for sourcing. People go with huge contractor bags tied to their waist and just scoop stuff out of the bins into the bags, hahaha. If you Google "Goodwill Outlet Queens" you'll find a few interesting articles about that location. I think one was from New York magazine.

Hi Justin - Another really good, insightful video - thanks for that. However, I think your math is off. You only have enough info on Estate Sales to check against, but you said you spent $2415 and made $13,157 - that would be an ROI (by my math, and I could be missing something) of 544%, not the 892% you cited. A number of the other categories seemed off to me too. Basically my math shows your spending an AVERAGE of right around $2 per item (even when I remove the online auctions, which you mentioned were quite low cost per item). That seems too low for an average. Anyway, I’m interested to hear if spending an average of $2 to source items and selling at an average of $18-$20 sounds right to you. That’s def way higher average returns than I’ve ever heard of or seen before. Thanks.
@justinresells

What is helping me expand out my sourcing was watching picking videos of other resellers. I do sometimes negotiate at garage sales but it depends. Sometimes you have a sort of instant rapport with the host where haggling feels natural and welcome. Other times the interactions are more cold and it just feels a bit icky to negotiate. Most times the prices are so low anyway and I am going to make a large enough profit that I have no issue paying the asking price. Thanks for watching :)
