Hey, some aminos helped a lot since they improve blood flow and are not Rx drugs (you can take as much as you need) try L Citruline + L Arginine, that has helped my POTS so much! My BP is now normal, no more spikes or afib issues. I can now gradually increase my activity level(s) to deal with the deconditioning that lack of exercise causes, very few doctors mention activity levels since we usually flare, I'm an EDS patients so I was born with this nonsense but I do feel much more "normal" now. LDN is another option that seems to help some.

That is what pots is, in pots the blood vessles dilate causing the blood to pool in lower extremities. The reason for the tachycardia in pots is the heart is trying to compensate for the loss of blood flow to the brain, by pumping faster to try and get more blood to the brain.

I've had some success with improving POTS and my chronic fatigue syndrome by making painfully slow changes over time. For example, I took my hardest task, showering. 3 years ago I could only shower once a week. So then I pushed for 2 showers a week. When that finally became easy I pushed for 3 showers. It has taken YEARS but I can now shower about every day again. (With cool water as hot water makes me pass out). I've done this with other daily life tasks too and it has helped.

@nataliadanielczyk9308
@nataliadanielczyk9308 Жыл бұрын
Thank you doc, this speaks to a lot and carries an important message, so much is possible with the right approach. And, as always, i have a question: can a compromised blood flow to the brain not be a result of an injury, but of other factors such as for example chronic muscle tension, postural problems, long term stress/anxiety, etc. And if so, can they be treated with some kind of tailored (or standardised?) training plan? Or is there some kind of 'brain gym' neuro-training people could use as self care? If i can do something to look after blood flow to my brain, i surely want to do it! Thank you and happy new year!
@dockeiser
@dockeiser Жыл бұрын
Great question, I'll do my best to answer it here! The type of reduced cerebral blood flow we are discussing here is the chronic type. This results from some type of pathological response in the body. It may be relative to the neural control systems which govern the signaling of the process. It may also be from disease or inflammation within the blood vessel walls, or even secondary to another type of problem that may restrict cerebral blood flow like hyperventilation or hypovolemia. In these types of cases it is worthwhile to prioritize solving the underlying problem. For people that are generally healthy, but interested in sustaining good circulation over time, the good news is that there are general healthful activities that can support healthy circulation. Regular exercise across domains have positive influences on CBF ranging from sustained low level cardiovascular exercise like walking all the way to heavy resistance training. Each provides a different stimulus that challenges the vasculature in an advantageous way. Swimming or immersion in water also provides a hydrostatic pressure change that "squeezes" blood toward the head. Breathing techniques that favor accumulation of CO2 (slow nasal breathing), improve vasoreactivty which has a positive effect on cerebral circulation. Challenging your brain cognitively, emotionally and with progressive complexity requires more synapses to be active in concert with each other. This coordination of neural activity produces a high level of neuronal activity which in healthy system provides a challenge to synchronize the neurovascular unit. On the diet level it is easy to get in the weeds, but eating a healthy diet can maintain neuronal and cardiovascular health as well. Suffice it to say we could cover a lot of ground just answering this one question, but hopefully this is a good place to start. You are right. @hubermanlab has done a wonderful job of taking some of what we have learned in these different domains and made it accessible for people interested in applications across a healthy lifespan. Take care

I feel I meet the classic symptoms of POTS, to go along with other seemingly-dysautonomic symptoms. How do i get my doctor and neurologist--who barely have 5minutes to spend with me--to look deeply into these issues and order these tests? All my neurologist does is a basic examination and orders an MRI with contrast (which came back within normal limits). Or where can I go to find a doctor who will? Also, this sounds like a neurology issue and not a cardiology issue?

I can only laugh at something like this. It was not POTS, because POTS will come back. It's about hypermobility, connective tissue disorders and the inability to maintain a blood pressure also possibly because of a cortisol receptor problems. It's a fucking dysautonomia. I have been able to do one month of all those things - even much longer - along my life. But I will still vomit upon showering, can't stand carbs or anything more than 1.5 dl in my stomach. Heat of more than 21 C will make me a complete invalid with no capacity of digestion (as in gastroparesis). I am sure you really excited about your own innovations regarding this, and it is always great that people try. But please. One month of getting better? Seriously? That is your criteria for 'cure'?
