The reason why he died was because he was too powerful for their to be any risks. If anything bad happened Gino could just save the day. That’s why the author hated him and had him killed.

Well Gojo always felt alone when Geto turned to a different way, he felt alone, the strongest always mean being alone, especially for Gojo that had a different parenting because of how people treated him as a true deity, when he died, in the afterlife he finally realized he's not the strongest anymore, he was not alone anymore.

I believe that gojo will comeback because even though he is the strongest he hasnt had the closure that he needs as a character, for him to comeback so he can defeat sukuna after all the shit that happened to him in the past and with suguru, he hasn’t really filled his purpose as a character and thus comeback in some way to do said thing. Because even if yuji is the mc, he is not capable to defeat sukuna alone no matter the amount of black flashes he hits. (Unless he gets a domain that is really op)
