Thanks Maha. Your videos have been greatly helping me to understand and appreciate the Arab culture through the spoken language. So yes please to a separate video detailing why the male and female nouns get switched in the Palestinian dialect.

It is just a tool to show/use as a term of endearment, and (I think) is only used in the Levant and maybe Egypt as well (probably more in Egyptian songs rather than locally). In everyday use it is mainly used towards children and babies, but also to the spouse in some circumstances. Its use is not necessarily consistent even within 1 sentence. For example, if I see a baby girl I might say: habibi sho helo hal amar (translates to my dear (male) how beautiful (male) this moon is). Or I can say: habibi meen hay el ammoura? (my dear (male), who is this beauty (female)) - which is also asking the parents what her name is. In Levantine, and maybe some Egyptian, music, the male versions of love words are often used to refer to females, as a term of endearment as well. However, female singers don't typically use female terms to describe male lovers. Though you could do that to male children/babies.

As a native speaker I don't think it can be used to address a female. It just doesn't sound right or normal.

Well if you use it with a woman , be ready to be slapped or punched in the face or get a very dirty look at least, use حبيبتي ، استاذة ، عزيزتي، in normal conversations , or use يا خايسة if there is an intention to blame, or يا حرمة which is kinda pejorative. Also مرة ( marah) with single " r" is equivalent to زلمة in many instances.
