#4 El Dorado at Santa Fe is where I grew up. My father was the original developer for El Dorado in the early 70s. We were the first family to ever live at El Dorado. It's so unbelievable how much it has all changed and GROWN! We spent our play time, hiking, horseback riding, motorcycle and go cart riding. The hills were ours to explore! Oh the memories!

These critiques on NM are based on criteria important to many folks in the U.S.- income, education, safety, established employment opportunities, amenities. Those may be priorities in some areas, but most people I know who've moved to to NM have done so to escape these living patterns.

Silver City is where Star Trek cast member Nichelle Nicholas lived and where she passed away at too. I had a late uncle who lived in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico but me and my family never went to visit him there. I have seen on other KZfaq videos that the big cities in New Mexico are not bad to live in, but the small towns there are very poor and economically depressed there too as in not much in job and economic opportunities. I have even learned that some retired Hollywood stars have also retired to New Mexico, Dennis Hopper had a ranch in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico and is laid to rest at Jesus Nazareno Cemetery after he died in Venice, California in 2010 from prostate cancer. Dennis Hopper also owned a home near Venice Beach too, that was up for sale but I am not sure who bought it. I even know that Gene Hackman is living there now.

Have a lot of family living in New Mexico, I was born there. Loved hunting and fishing all over northern New Mexico. I lived in Espanolia. Really loved the shot of the Gorge Bridge between Taos and Tres Padres (TP). Drove over that bridge a lot. Mother grew up in TP and said the bridge to cross was down on the river so took a long time to go between Taos and TP back then.

Living in Rio Rancho, working at Los Alamos. LA, that's Los Alamos, for the locals is a great town and community. It is hard to find a good home, but once your settled most folks I know trade up as their career grows. Rio Rancho has good schools, close to Albuquerque and shopping, we like it. As a pilot, NM is a Gem. One thing I wish NM had was more cloudy days or even 50% clouds. If your spending the day outside the sun can wear one out.

I went to high school in Aztec, just outside of Farmington ad lived in Farmington for years in the late 1970s and 1980s. Farmington used to be a crappy place where a lot of oil field and power plant workers worked but in recent decades it has improved greatly. My mom still lives in Farmington and my wife and I are considering retiring back there. One thing though, while there are hospitals, if you have a major medical issue you will have to go 200 miles to Albuquerque though.

@@kaylawilson9205 Aztec is where I actually lived first and went to High School. I was just back visiting a couple of months ago. Still a quiet, sleepy little town. Not much to do. People here in Mesilla say the same thing. Except it's, "You have to go 40 miles to El Paso if you have a major medical issue." I'm not familiar with some of the areas which you have mentioned but understand that many of them are near better known areas. The crime rate in Albequerque is high enough to be a concern unfortunately so try not to drive a car with any removable options like fog lamps or mirrors as I learned the hard way. That inner city is half the size of Austin's Travis County and a tempting alternative for someone looking for a less crowded more subdued lifestyle while living in a friendly city with a desirable climate. I'm surprised that Hot Springs/Truth or Consequences didn't make the list, as well as Carlsbad which are charming and friendly if a bit boring. They don't call New Mexico "land of enchantment" for nothing.

Wherever you choose is a preference. Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico and it's known for its historic Plaza, art galleries, and cultural diversity. Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico, Albuquerque combines modern amenities with a deep cultural heritage. It's famous for the International Balloon Fiesta and the Old Town historic district. Taos is known for its artistic community, adobe buildings, and the historic Taos Pueblo. Las Cruces is located near the Mexican border, Las Cruces is known for education (NMSU). Roswell gained fame due to the 1947 UFO incident. Farmington, situated in the northwestern part of the state, is known for its proximity to the four corners monument. Plenty of things to do like go on drives to Colorado, visit trails, go rafting down the river, and many festivals. I live and work here so I know the most about San Juan County. Everywhere in New Mexico is great. I love everything you can do outdoors.

Have you done it yet? If not, try Los Alamos. I nicknamed it "Pleasantville" a long time ago because it is. Super nice people with none of the cultural racism that is found in other parts of the state. Los Alamos is inhabited and managed by a preponderance of well educated people. No trash in the streets, snow removal is functional, the police are friendly and efficient, and the air is clean.

La Huerta is Carlsbad not a suburb, has the same zip code. Artesia is known as the City of Champions because of the winning records in their sports in high school football program. Also called T Town. They hold the record for the most High School football championships of any school in the nation, with 32 titles, since 1950, placing 3rd if you go back as far as 1920 (of course there was no Artesia sports back then).

Thanks for not mentioning Ruidoso. Absolutely nothing to do here besides skiing, abundance of great golf courses, horse races, hiking, casinos, fishing. Most conservative county in one of the most liberal states in the country. We already have enough people here already! 1:28

Yeah, some cars are difficult to steal while others don't appeal to thieves. Consider before moving to Albuquerque.

Lol- 1) North Valley and Los Ranchos are the same place - " a mere investment of $174,000 means you can by the lot for that price.... homes in that are average $800,00-$3 million plus.... 2) Paradise Hills is about 60 years old and the houses you showed are one small segment 3) Albuquerque is at 132 Homicides as of mid Sept 2022 and getting worse 4) Rio Rancho is safer but the property tax will kill most just getting by... they cater to Intel 5) Corrales is nice, but it's $250,000 and acre ( without a house ) 6) Santa Fe has no real middle class, liberal policies have made it so the majority of the people who work there, commute from Rio. Rancho or Albuquerque. And jobs .... jobs here pay crap for and have no real manufacturing jobs. Amazon distribution center pays $15 an hour and the Sheriff's Department responds there several times a day for employees stealing, fighting and even set one of the bathrooms on fire. If you believe in failed government that caters to criminals . New Mexico is your state. If you want to live somewhere you know your car will still be in the driveway when you wake up ... Stay out of tue Albuquerque metro area.

“Poor New Mexico! So far from heaven, so close to Texas!” attributed to Manuel Armijo, the last Mexican governor of the Mexican territory of Nuevo México, ca 1841. I always liked that quote. Just let me add, for anyone contemplating moving to NM, the whole state is high in elevation. Taos County it is 7 thousand feet (in town), and gets much higher. Some places in NM are as low as 4 thousand feet. But if you are coming from sea level you might feel the difference (less available oxygen in the air).
