Here is a list of other thing you should try: Leitão da mealhada Pão com chouriço Farinheira (it's close to alheira) Chanfana Posta mirandesa (you need to go to top of Portugal to try this) Arroz de Lampreia (very expensive and not all people like it) Arroz de carqueja Torresmos Rancho à Moda de Viseu And you also need to try the cheese from "Serra da Estrela", the best cheese in the world!

Next time that you stop in Algarve try this Coast line: sopas de peixe, arroz de polvo, búzios com feijão, guisado de peixe, açorda de marisco, caldeirada de polvo ou de raia, carapaus alimados e carne de porco com ameijoas "Alentejana" Cross country side: Galinha com cerejas ,perna de carneiro no tacho , xarém, ervilhas com ovos à Algarvia ,perdiz estufada, coelho frito ,lulas recheadas à Algarvia ,favas, canja com conquilhas e gaspacho de alho. And you finish with dom Rodrigo,morgado da serra, doces fino ,medronho, amêndoa amarga , melosa de Monchique.

Which one though? Driving through Mealhada is ridiculous! José dos Leitaoes, Francisco dos Leitaoes, Ricardo dos Leitaoes - there's like a million of those restaurants right next to each other next to the road and at least five of them are called Rei dos Leitaoes. lol

I live in Central California . We have a huge Portuguese influence here , almost all from the island of Terceira in the Azores .They are mainly involved in farming and the dairy business . I have tried many of those foods . But I have only seen one Portuguese restaurant in my 65 years . It was on a golf course in the middle of nowhere . My first girlfriend was Portuguese .I can remember her mother used to make great breakfasts of eggs , linguica , and beans . Looking back , wish she would have been my last . 65 years old and still as lovely as she was in high school .We even have a Portuguese radio station and a huge Portuguese club with it's own property for feeds , religious events , and parades . They have an annual sopas feed that draws hundreds of families in from the entire area . Another town a few miles away has annual Portuguese bloodless bullfights . Thanks for bringing back fond memories .

I never comment on youtube, but you guys are the best Portugal guides ever! You really know your stuff! And as a hardcore alheira fan, like you, I want to share that there's a restaurant in Malhadas, Bragança called "A Motinha" where they serve HOMEMADE ALHEIRAS! They are the best I've ever tasted in my whole life (it was actually last weekend). I didn't even know there were people still making them at home! I was eating with my friends and we were all mindblown by those alheiras, until the lady comes and asks very modestly "do you like the alheiras? I made them myself". We lost it!! Of course, in that restaurant, you'll find that typically Portuguese welcoming and family attitude. There are people coming from Spain every weekend to eat in there! I travel over 4h twice or more a year to go there and my parents (who love Aveiro and never considered moving, ever!) decided to move to Malhadas when they retire after going there once!! Also there, I've had the best grilled lamb and steak ever! The lamb especially because they use a special type of wood to grill (the lady's husband is a lumberjack and gets the best). The steak because in that area they have a special cow breed called "vaca Mirandesa". The first time I tried this beef (in that restaurant, almost 6 years ago) I questioned what have I been eating my whole life?! Like all other grilled meat has no taste compared to this one... you seriously question what the heck are they selling in supermarkets?? I started this comment to talk only about the alheiras, but just got carried away with how much I love Miranda do Douro (the whole 'conselho' of Malhadas)... Unusual landscape in the farming areas, nice river to swim in the city, lots of history, Portuguese food and hospitality on steroids!!, and the most amazing sunsets and sunrises!! SERIOUSLY UNDERRATED!

The best francesinha I ever had is at Inova Foz in Vila do Conde about 25 minutes North of Porto. If you get a chance to check it out while you are in the North, you definitely won't be disappointed.

The thing I miss most from home (🇵🇹) is the food. It's the fusion of everything good and comfy our ancestors amassed collectively for hundreds of years and haven't seen anything like it anywhere else. If there's one thing the Portuguese can agree on, is that our food is awesome. Btw, for a great Francesinha experience, try the Brasão restaurant downtown. There's better, but this one gives you the whole premium package.

I don't like "Francesinha" that much, but there's one I could eat every day, it is really on a different level from every other one I've tried. You should go to "Taberna Belga" in Braga. You will not regret it I'm sure! The quality of the meat and the sauce flavour is unreal! I'm from Lisbon, and went already to Porto many times, but that one from Braga is for sure the best, the other one's can't even compare.

Penela cheese is my favourite Portuguese cheese! Have you tried Serra da Estrela cheese? When you eat with a spoon and put it on bread, or better, pão de ló cake! I better stop before I start drooling 😂 a tip: a good francesinha in Lisbon is at Marco (at Santos)

Hey you guys...I really liked the video! My favorite portuguese food is called Maranhos. It is a dish made with rice, a lot of meat and chouriço and it is cooked inside of the stomach of a sheep! I know it sounds horrible, but after you tried it...you became hooked! It's from the Abrantes region of Portugal (central portugal). Look it up! Keep up the good work!

You MUST try Chanfana, old goat cooked in wine for more than 24 hours on a fireplace. It is just divine. Traditional from the center-interior, Coimbra, Viseu, Vila Nova de Poiares, Miranda do Corvo, etc

A chanfana foi inventada pelas pessoas das aldeias dessa zona. Durante as invasões napoleónicas os soldados roubavam os cabritinhos jovens para comerem e os locais como ficavam com os velhos e duros inventaram essa forma de cozinhar, a carta solta-se e fica delicioso. Adoro a história de Portugal .

Quando vieres aqui para a zona das Caldas, São Martinho do Porto procura um restaurante que se chama Solar dos Amigos, fica na freguesia de Salir de Matos, Caldas da Rainha, é provavelmente o melhor restaurante típico da zona.

Great choices!!! I love all of them. Thanks to keep promoting Portugal. If you like fish and coriander, try Sopa de Cação (better in Alentejo) Quick update: choco is Cuttlefish. The example you gave from Picanha, is brazilian version. And you can also find Lapas in Azores Islands. Normally they serves octopus lagareiro with full tentacles, this way they can’t give you pota instead (pota is a kind of big squid, not that tender). The cheese “mistura” it means mix (two kind of milk: goat and cow or sheep).

It is very difficult to have 1 best Portuguese food, I in particular have the 50 best Portuguese foods, hehehehe. They also have to eat octopus salad, Ps. When they go to Nazare they have to go to the restaurant "Taberna da Adélia" and eat seafood rice, fish stew, grilled sole and grilled grouper. É muito difícil ter 1 best comida portuguesa , eu em particular tenho as 50 melhores comidas portuguesas , hehehehe. Têm de comer também salada de polvo , Ps. Quando forem a Nazare têm de ir ao restaurante " Taberna da Adélia" e comerem arroz de marisco , caldeirada de.peixe , linguado grelhado e cherne grelhado..

You should mention: cozido à portuguesa! It´s a national dish, but you only will found it, in a proper way, in the north of Portugal.

We don't use the "la". So you say polvo à lagareiro. In fact, the "à" has the same meaning as "la", except one is portuguese and the other Spanish. Dispite minor mistakes this video is spot-on. Well done.

This seems to be a very common mistake people learning Portuguese make. They always add tones where they don't exist, I assume because in English the tones are hidden. But if they can remember the word and know where the "acentos" are then it should be easy.

Lapas is a dish that you can have in all coast beach's of the country... I live near Figueira da Foz and i already have eaten lapas from Figueira da Foz beach... and its AMAAAZIIINGGGG

When you guys go to Porto, you should definitely try out the restaurant ‘O Afonso’, one of the best and traditional Francesinha places in the city 🙌🏼

Have you guys tried the snails 🐌 with garlic and butter sauce?in Portugal we call (caraculetas assadas com molho de alho 🤩)is not for everyone but I would love to see you 2 trying ,in case you never tried before 😉you 2 are amazing couples and I love you 2.🥂🤩👍👏👏

It's a mix goat and cow cheese. My aunt used to make that particular cheese for that brand (I'm assuming it's Rabaçal, from Penela). It's my absolute favourite.

Thank the Lord I watched this post AFTER having dinner. Joen & Amalie, you've never had, after all this time here, a Cozido à Portuguesa and that is unacceptable... :-( (just be careful, Cozido is a tour-de-force)

A great Portuguese dish that I love is a dish made with cod fish called Bacalhau a bras, so good if you haven’t tried it I really recommend it, enjoy.

That cheese is in fact a mix, that's exactly the meaning of the word "mistura" in the cheese name. That word always means the cheese is made with a mix of milks from several animals. It can be goat and sheep, or goat and sheep and cow, or sheep and cow, it depends. Usually, the animals in question are depicted in the label.

So... let me repeat some added suggestions: Leitão da Bairrada in Mealhada; Cataplana de Marisco; Arroz de Marisco; (just in Abrantes you will find...) Tijeladas, Trouxas de Ovos, Palha de Abrantes (try one each time you go - they're all fantastic but one after the other is an overload of sugar and eggs), Travesseiros (in Sintra). Then, because you're living in Portugal, if you want to dare on the strange yet delicious (even if a bit controversial) - you have to try Caracois, on one hand, and, lampreia. Not for the faint of heart but... you may be amazed. :) Oh... and some soups too: Sopa da Pedra (a meal in itself in Almeirim) and Sopa de Cação (Alentejo only). And on cheese: if you haven't had Serra da Estrela yet... have it!... with nuts and pumpkin jam... a match (a thresome?) made in heaven!

Dear ones picanha its exclusive from Brasil we have it here in Portugal because we have a large brasilian community and also rodizio restaurants that sell picanha cook by brasilians also

Pastel de nata is delicious my dad used to make them all the time my avo always makes masa for festas all the time both my parents are born in terceira Portugal it's so beautiful there
