I keep mine around for audio and movie duty. It is a Dell Precision T7500 with dual x5680 processors, 48GB Memory, EVGA GTX 670 FTW 4GB, ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound, Intel Wireless N 300 / Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe, Startech USB 3.0 4 Port, and a Star Tech SATA III 4x PCIe adapter, 240GB Sandisk SSD, and a 1TB Hitachi HDD. I used to run this as my main PC back a few years ago. I had a GTX 1060 6GB in it then though also and a Blue ray drive.

x58 has proven to be a good platform throughout the years. With that being said i do agree it's showing it's age. It was my first PC after switching from Apple in 2010. Started with a i-960 with 6 GB of ram to a X5675 with 24 GB of ram. The processors are cheap, the ram is cheap, but a decent motherboard is not. Unless you already have a X58 motherboard laying around, I would avoid this now as Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 next year and X58 doesn't have the TPM chip to upgrade to Windows 11. It's a shame too, as I've seen my OC'ed X58 do better than some of my friends computers in performance. X58 deserves respect.

afaik u can run win11 on a non-tpm cpu, there's a workaround to bypass the tpm requirement

Got 2 x5690s 192gb of 1333 and a 6gb 1060gb. Lenovo Thinkstation D20 got it on ebay for 130 minus the gpu and ram.

That was addressed in this series bro. The most cost-effective way to utilize these for budget conscious gaming is by tossing them into a workstation, which means no bclk overclocking, and even on retail boards that support 4.5+ GHz overclocks these are still shredded by even stock clocked, ubercheap X99 chips and their quad channel memory. Do I really need to make a follow-up -- that defeats the purpose of these videos -- showing that even OC'd these are a dead end?

It does push the performance up a decent bit. Also in a T3500 you can overclock the W3680 😅

love my x5675 but looks like it cant handle The last of us 1 for PC , somebody played that game with x58 Xeon ?

My understanding is TLOU requires AVX, which is unfortunately lacking on X58. At this point, that’s unlikely to be resolved by the developers, because of the age of X58 and the simplicity of leaning on AVX instructions.
