Keep in mind. Orville and Wilber were NOT aeronatical engineers! They were bicycle mechanics! No one was in those days. All those backyard experiments eventually paid off. Aviation was born in a garage by people who had NO clue what they were doing. They were courageous and curios. It takes passion to do this. Cut these guys some slack!

Well you are partially wrong , they did have a clue, over near Olive Hill about 7 miles east A Frenchman had a powered flight but it was being held by ropes as they experimented with their version of wing warping to control the banking imitating birds and the Grackle black bird's verticle tail and swallow tail inspired the rear control surfaces. The black assistant's head got cut off and the frenchman quit and the Wright Brother's got the guy's wind tunnels and other research and went forward , their difference was the forward canard elevators but the powered flights this guy made were heavier than air into the wind , it lifted itself off the ground several times but there was no confidence in the control surfaces system. Also it was something like a 7 wing craft, and is or was on display as a mock up replica at Bluegrass field west of Lexington. A historical marker for First Flights in Kentucky is on U.S. 60 about 6 miles from the site , in about 1993 I was taken to the ridge top farm and the barn and vertcle frame of the Wind mill that drove the wind tunnel and lathes was still standing. Locals say there were still parts of the plane in the barn until at least the mid1970s , you can walk the field where the guy died and see the location has good westerly wind even on a calm day probably should be a Kite flying festival there or something. First in Flight on the North Carolina car plates could havre been sued over. Wright brothers did have more than a few clues. Their more simple design was what got them on the path to commercial flight sales.

The only thing more dangerous than trying to fly it is standing 50' away watching the show. The helicopter won't fly, but the shattered blades will. All over the place!

Reminds me of some of the crap we built as kids. Ours were coaster cars, and yeah, we got skinned up when the wheels fell of on a downhill, but it was fun for us, not life threatening. Except for one guy who drove a Flexy Flier head first under the back end of a parked car…

The second example was fairly sound. His tail rotor was working well, the craft was very stable for a shed build. With a qualified aeronautic engineer, he may well have ironed out any bugs, but i believe some pilot training in a helicopter would have led to a better result for the pilot and his helicopter. I see mainly pilot error here.

I agree the Kenyan guy made decent effort, his machine looked well conceived but his piloting skills were not up to keeping it under control. I doubt a qualified pilot would get anywhere near it so he had little choice in achieving his ambition.

It didn't appear that a lot of these guys knew how to fly even if their helicopters worked. Many of the "crashes" were pilot induced.

Some of these examples were pure pilot error in a proven helicopter design and ARE NOT failures suggested in the title. The major failure here appears to be the producer.

In aviation, worldwide, it seems the inhabitants of some regions have better luck than others in figuring out how it should work, and how not. None of those featured here, by the way😂😂 That attempt with the Nepalese flag, the overhead hanglider-style control bar, and the accelerator pedal!!😂😂🤣🙈😂

Why do these guys not buy plans for a home built helicopter, a proven design. Why would your government give you money to build a home made helicopter, when they could just buy one that will fly. I applaud the guys for trying though.
