Addiction was not Corey Haim 's problem. Sexual abuse was.

Jim Carrey's family became homeless and they lived in a VW van. 16 year old Jim and his brother spent months living in a tent in a park. Jim had to quit school to take a job as a janitor. Jim used the pain in his comedy: “My father lost his job, and I actually became homeless for quite some time. Of course, I grew up in Canada, so I thought we had just gone camping.”

Another one is Rebecca Twigg, Olympic cycling star of the 1980s. She was reported homeless on the streets of Seattle a few years ago - don’t know what’s happened to her since then. She was a great inspiration of mine back in those days as I was trying my hand at bicycle racing. We always dreaded that she’d show up amongst the female competitors, which did happen on occasion in her pre-Olympic days.

It seems they all have off-screen lives 'fraught with challenges'. Those challenges seem to be caused by substance abuse. I guess the moral of the story is: Don't do drugs, and take the rather lucrative paychecks and invest wisely. I can't feel sorry for people who ruin their own lives. Many of us never got the opportunities, but stayed out of the gutter and are doing well, thank you,

This is not heartbreaking. It's ironic. You all have seen the homeless walking the streets begging on a corner and storefronts. NOT one person says " oh how brave." One thing they all have in common is drugs and alcohol. The thing these famous people dont have that "regular people" have. is they do not have the ability to have restraint. We all have our demons. The difference is some choose to confront and deal with them and other just let them consume them.

Who would ever think that celebrity drug addicts would face other problems than "regular" people drug addicts. Take no drugs, it's so simple. If you don't take drugs (or at least control it tightly), and if you are not really unlucky (illness, accident, mental illness ...), then you will find a way to restart your life even after being homeless. Also, there is psychotherapy available.

Well, I wouldn't say all these people became homeless. While many of them caused their own problems, I do feel bad for those who got pushed out of employment due to age or lost $ in divorce or medical challenges. But anyone who had it all, spent it all and then had nothing, I don't feel bad for.

Having lots of money brings boredom...that's the message I am getting. If you cannot use your talent and resulting rewards wisely there is truly no point in nurturing it in the first place. These people could have brought so much change to the world with their financial power, but, everyone seems to have 'financial struggles and strains', substance abuse issues and lawsuits against them... I wish they all had the strength not to follow the crowd or keep bad company. They should have never found themselves in this situation, very sad.

God gave them good looks, talent & success. They threw all away. Amen. I know people born with serious illnesses, some who got stuck on a weelchair by an accident or deaseses... And they never give up, live at their best, work, have families and help others. As said... "Don't give pearls to pigs".
