Most of these aren’t forgotten at all! I don’t know if something like it was made anywhere else, but Apple Stack Cake was a frugal way to use up on-hand ingredients. It’s from Appalachia where drying apples was common and cheap. It has to soak so the apples and cake have time to rehydrate.

Making a cake with mayonnaise may seem weird, but it really isn't. If you think about what mayonnaise is made of, it consists of eggs and vegetable oil mixed together, and most cakes use cake mix, eggs, and vegetable oil, so basically mayonnaise is already mixed for you.

2:05 "SOCK IT TO ME" was a catch-phrase on a popular US comedy and variety television show in the late 1960s and early '70s, "ROWAN AND MARTIN'S _LAUGH-IN_ " As I recall, celebrities were clamoring for cameos to deliver the line. Richard Nixon: "Sock it to ME?" Another set-up set in a Japanese restaurant, as I recall Judy Carne was dressed in a Kimono with stereotypical and thoroughly politically incorrect yellow-face make-up and clipped broken English accent: "It may be rice wine to you, but it's sake to me!" Boxing glove knocks her over.

I made German sweet chocolate cake every year for my birthday, it’s old-fashioned, but I love it. I did read an article about how to enhance the chocolate flavor by adding some cocoa powder to the dry ingredients which I now do and love it even more. Have to wait until January. I also often make angel food cake; very low fat and delicious. It is a lot of work to separate the eggs and let them sit for a while, but the cake is delicious and it’s simplicity.

It's a shame that people didn't bother to put any information on old family recipes that they got from their elders , usually after years of asking for it . I have a citrus pound cake recipe that may be 90 years old , judging by the name of the aunt that gave it to my mom . Dad's sister finally shared an old family recipe for Methodist cake , but never said how she got it . If it was her grandmother's , it dates back to the Civil War .
