I’ve only done longsword for about 6 months now, I’ll be honest I’m not very good at it, but finding exercises like this to do by myself are helpful. I’m training for a fight with my friend who works at medieval times.

I've been doing Bo staff spinning exercises with a 5.5 foot aluminum walking stick. It lacks the heft of a wooden Bo but I can use it at high speed, which causes a gratifying whooshing sound through the air. If I hold it at one end, the opposite end moves even faster. I've recently been practicing various longsword cutting moves with the intention of using them as striking attacks with my stick. The tricky part is not dragging or hitting the ground with my stick (because of its length). This is for the exercise benefits and possibly for self defense against the aggressive dogs in my area. So far, I've deterred these dogs with a demonstration of spins and sword attack moves (striking the dogs was unnecessary). - I'm looking forward to doing your 20 min workout with my walking stick.

Just learned zwerchau at my school in Nashville and have been struggling with the biomechanics. This video is a great way for me to work on those factors by myself outside of class. Thank you for sharing!!

Can you do this with a piece of rebar wrapped with hockey tape if kept regularly oiled?
@AdelaideSwordAcademy3 жыл бұрын
I suppose so, but it could be pretty badly balanced. Make sure you don't hurt yourself!

@@AdelaideSwordAcademy just asking because I have no idea where to get a sword from. I actually ordered a 10 lb training mace a little while ago. If done a little slower, do you think it’d work?
@AdelaideSwordAcademy3 жыл бұрын
@@mylifeisacomplexpastiche7901 10lb is way too heavy, except for macebell exercises. Essentially anything at speed is going to hurt you, and be of dubious value if you go slow enough not hurt yourself. If you want a training sword, check out Black Armoury if you are Europe or Australia, Purpleheart armoury if youre in the US. If you cant afford that, a wooden stick will do! I Go down your local hardware store, theres sure to be plenty of useable options there. Ive used broomsticks, axe or hoe handles ... just dont go over 3.5 pounds!

@@AdelaideSwordAcademy Alright! I can combine gada training with the mace and eventually get a purpleheart training sword and alternate exercises between days. Thank you for the information and the video! Subbed!
