Originally this was going to be uploaded to the second channel but apparently it was "too long for processing" so I guess I'm kinda forced to upload this on the main channel, against my wishes. I was also hesitant of uploading the video too because I'm worried of the consequences it might bring. I promised before to people that I'll never upload any Cambodian rock music, but temptation won over and decided to make a compilation solely on Yus Olarong. Why Olarong specifically? -Is because he looks like me- Come on, listen to this music.. but I hope this is the last video I upload on Cambodian Music like this, but if you want to listen to more.. well you should start looking for the songs because I ain't going to list the original titles. I hope you understand my sentiment about this.
Anyway, Yus Olarong (**យស់អូឡារាំង**) was an individual who participated in the rock music scene in Cambodia during the 60's and 70's. According to some source, he often snuck social commentary within his music. The only musician in Cambodia to do that along with Samon Meas. Also, there's barely any photos taken of him, and most of the depictions of him were of album covers and also some damaged archival footage of him in the documentary "Don't Think I've Forgotten". However, there is only one photo that has been uncovered and posted to Facebook, Which I would say, he looks a bit older than his depictions. Like most artists, no one really knows what was his fate during the genocide, a member of the Cambodian royal family (and Olarong's aunt) said that he was seen in Phnom Penh, was evacuated and was likely killed immediately, since he was a "**non-conformist musician with western influences**", a group that the Khmer Krahom sought to get rid of. And according to the 'Huffington Post': "His name survived by being used as a sort of code word by other Cambodians to identify themselves as a way of keeping their culture alive", meaning that we probably wouldn't have known his name
