I have traced the relationship of man and Basenji to at least ten thousand years ago. They are considered to be genetically older than other domestic canine breeds. Having had nine over the last thirty years I can tell you that they are quite different from your average domestic breed.

Akita's are not ancient. They were bred up from the smaller Shiba like bear and probably bird hunting dogs. They were bred for dogfighting by introducing German Shepards, St Bernards (where the pinto and white markings came from), and other large European breeds. The American Akita's are more bear like, which resembled the old Akita's. The present day Japanese Akita's are more stream like their modern bullet train, and compact. I guess you could use Sonny Liston as a representative of the old fashioned Akita's, and Mohammed Ali as the representative of today's Japanese Akita's.

Allow me to correct you about the Mexican hairless dog, first: the correct name is XOLOITZCUITLE, second: it is a very ancient Mexican breed, approximately 7,000 years old and was revered by the Aztecs; it has been the hunting companion of the natives from Central and South America for about 3000 years. Finally, I would just like to respectfully ask you that when you refer to the American continent, and very specifically Mexico, that you do not use the USA flag because it is very offensive to us Mexicans. America is not just USA, is a continent full of wonders, beautiful people and great cultures and counties, therefore their individuality must be respected. The USA has not had that attitude towards the rest of the American countries and has lost for the esteem of most of them.
