Love seeing and hearing about your beautiful roses Ken. I'm looking forward to part 2. Hope you're enjoying the beautiful weather but I can sympathise if you're stuck indoors working.

Hi Gav, are the stems on BmeS strong enough to support the flowers or is it a floppy rose? I am a bit disappointed with The Poet's Wife which seems to be turning into a ground cover rose in my garden!
@gavinparry54264 күн бұрын
@@nikkonch Ive only got one stake on BMS Nik in the centre. The stems are strong but the sheer number of flowers tilt them over slightly. Well worth buying imo. Certainly my best performer so far in 2024 with Emily Bronte 2nd. Sweet Honey & Brother Cadfael also doing very well. I have no idea why DA retired BC. Beautiful 🌹and very strong scent.

Nice Ken. I liked your koko loko. Also I see why you’re not so happy with your Penelope Lively, I don’t know what’s going on there. I know they say to leave alone for first year or two but I have to say I’d have been tempted to cut that back early doors. My raspberry cupcake was doing similar to your Penelope Lively with weak spindly growth. So I cut it right back. Mine is yet to bud and is still pretty weak! Yours on the contrary seems to be doing very well indeed. :)
@kenvoong59775 күн бұрын
Thanks Jay, yes Penelope was a huge disappointment for me. Why on earth did I go buy another . I did exactly what most people would do and just light prune in the first year. My raspberry parfuma for me is a more superior rose.
@vorong2ru2 күн бұрын
13:45 same for me, this year Penelope is barely any fragrant and the blooms arent as perfect as they were last year. I thinj thats the weather we had this year, she likes warm spring and enjoys that sunny weather we have at the moment..
@kenvoong59772 күн бұрын
Hi vorong, yes Penelope is very disappointing for me. I was too afraid to prune her hard in this first, this time I’ll cut her back further. I’m more drawn to many of the newer recently purchased roses than to give her much attention.

Beautiful roses especially liked the hue of Lady Gardener. I could swear I caught the fragrance in the air! But ...I could Hardy believe it to hear that Bathsheba and Gabriel Oak are indeed side by side, so Far From The Madding Crowd, that must be Heaven Scent? Sorry Ken, you are strictly forbidden to obtain any roses with monikers such as Troy Boy or Sergeant Sneaker, etcetera. 🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🥰🥰
@kenvoong59773 күн бұрын
Hi Peter, I do prefer the scent of Bathsheba over Gabriel. I know some will disagree, but all our noses detect different sense of fragrance. Are those you mentioned below are roses? I googled some of those you mentioned but none of them are to be found .
@englishpeter87683 күн бұрын
Ah.... forgive me Ken, if my response caused problems..... Both, Bathsheba and Gabriel Oak are characters from Thomas Hardy's 'Far From The Madding Crowd ' Gabriel Oak is separated from his love Bathsheba, as she is wooed away by eponymous lecherous Sergeant Troy....so my tentative link to your pleasant video....was you chose both consecutively , So at last they ARE together! My Sincerest Apologies. 🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🥰🥰

@englishpeter8768 Thank you Peter, what such coincidence that these were the two characters from the novel. This is where Da got the origin of the names of these two roses. Now I understand. Your knowledge and wisdom certainly have wowed me for sure.

I adore the scent of Chandos beauty which, in my opinion beats all the others for scent hands down.
@kenvoong59773 күн бұрын
Hi Michelle, yes chandos beauty does have very strong intense fragrance and is well Known for it. As strong as she maybe, I’m not a huge fan of the scent on this rose. It’s one of those scent I find it difficult to describe.
@michelleelsom68273 күн бұрын
@kenvoong5977 yes, often folks get a different scent when they smell a rose. To me, it smells of Turkish delight & I love it, whereas I cannot abide the scent of Bathsheba. We are a strange lot, aren't we :)

That Penelope Lively is sad. It has such pretty flowers, but what's going on with it. You are not the only one with this problem. I watch the Meiland channel, and they stick their roses out without any care for several years before releasing them. Only the hardest as well as beautiful get picked. I don't think Penelope would survive that, and I don't think it would survive in my harsh climate. Nice video. Thank you for the information.
@kenvoong597722 сағат бұрын
Hi Iris I’m not sure what’s going on with Penelope . It’s not the first time I’ve heard of this problem with this rose. I’m starting to like Meiland roses, the long lasting flowers are on another level.

Hi Ken, that was great some really lovely roses there. I look forward to part 2. I don't know why Penelope Lively would be so flimsy and floppy is it getting enough light ? The one doing better is that in better light? May not be the case just possible cause off the top of my head other than watering.

Hello Ken, it must be difficult to put the roses in ranking, they are all beautiful and for sure their scents varies. I sometimes cut some roses and put in a room to know how strong the scent after 6 hours or a day. I’m curious which rose is your number one in terms of scent. Thanks for this interesting video!🌹🌹🌹
@kenvoong59774 күн бұрын
Hi Gemma, yes ranking roses in term of scent is challenging. With each individual of us having different sense of smell is personal. 1,2 and 3 was pretty easy as I knew which one was my favourite, but the rest was certainly difficult. This was Where struggle to decide on the last few. So I had to compromise and came up with a result.

I think that's false advertising Ken, putting 20 in the title and then only showing us the first 10! We shall await part 2! How does Lady Gardener compare with Lady of Shalott overall, not just fragrance?
@kenvoong59775 күн бұрын
😜 Hi Nik, I think they’re are on par, both excellent roses. Can’t really pick. The whole video put together to all most at 45 minutes long. For most people it would be too long to watch on a phone. Can’t imagine anyone would spend that amount of time watching something uninteresting. So had to make last minute adjustments.
@nikkonch4 күн бұрын
@@kenvoong5977 What do you mean "UNINTERESTING"?! How can anyone find a video of roses uninteresting? But yes, you're probabIly right to split it up into more manageable chunks. Do people watch these videos on phones? I need a big screen to really appreciate the glorious flowers.
