A message of encouragement to the seed planters: I may not remember the names or the pictures of any of you who I have crossed paths with, but your words, logic, your patience, your gentle correction, and , most of all, your love and devotion to Christ stayed somewhere in the back of my mind throughout my journey. First to Christ and then on being more biblically minded, away from the heresies planted by very different types of sowers. It so often seems a tiring and thankless endeavor, rarely seeing the fruits. (Especially on the internet comments sections) But I am here to tell you that you all helped me and to thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all.

I was so confused when you wondered why Ecclesiastes is in there, when it's always been one of my favorite books. But then I realized, oh duh, it's super depressing. But that's the point. Life is depressing, and is hopeless without Jesus. That's why Ecclesiastes has been a comfort to me in my low times, and it affirms to me that yes, people are wicked, and suffering falls on everyone, and ultimately the material things in life, both good and bad, are meaningless, except for God's glory. Job is more difficult for me to understand because it requires more Jewish context to really know the text, or at least I'm dumber when it comes to Job, but Ecclesiastes I could understand straight away, maybe in part because it's not teaching many new things, but rather confirming a lot of what everyone already suspects or learns about the state of the world.

This is beautiful! I read it recently and was not prepared for some of the initial emotions I had. But as I studied more, I found and heard more about the intent and structure of this book that really helped me see some of the same points you’re making! The teacher was just replying to what we see in the world (without jesus) and pointing to the end conclusion in the ending verses

Hi Mike I really really hope you see this message. And I hope that you will consider answering my question. If not, I understand. I'm am just returning to the faith after over 10 years of turning me back. I turned my back on God on the battlefield of Helmand, Afghanistan, and became an atheist. In truth, I still believe, but I was angry with God because of what I had seen in Afghanistan. I simply lost all hope. In the last ten years, I have really been fighting with the past, and even more now when coming back to Christianity. How does one find peace with taking life in the eyes of the Bible and God? Here I'm speaking of the act of taking a life while deployed in the military. Also. How does one find peace with being disabled with PTSD and not being able to give back to society because it is out of reach to work full hours? Again, in the eyes of the Bible and God. Shem outlived Abraham by about 35 years and these long life spans would have been the best way of passing on information directly from the people who experienced it instead of from generation to generation at least that's my opinion. I always have taken Biblical ages literally. At other times when we see for example in Genesis 37:2, that Joseph was 17 years old we take that literally so I don’t see why we shouldn’t take ages earlier in the book literally as well. One of the translations of Methuselah is ‘when he dies it shall be sent’ Methuselah lived 969 years - the longest a man has ever lived, and when he died the flood came. I think it’s a picture of Grace -God giving as long a time as possible for repentance before He sent judgement. I recommend the book Keys of Time by Derek Walker an Oxford University mathematician and pastor who has organised the ages to show when lives overlapped etc. It’s very interesting and informative and worth checking out.

Hi, Mike, hopefully you see this. First off, I am so thankful for your approach to scripture and answering questions, most people just beat around the bush and never give you a straight answer. Secondly, You were talking about the numbers in Genesis meaning something… If you add the numbers in Genesis 5 and 11 when the father begets a son then all the numbers from Adam to Abraham = 1948 years which correlates with 1948 years after Jesus; Israel becomes a nation again 🤔🤔 don’t forget the “2 years after the flood”

31:37 - that’s a great point about first realizing how it applied to the original audience. That’s how I ended up becoming Postmill and realizing that the Olivet Discourse actually applied to the 1st century disciples in a way I was never taught. I know Pastor Mike would disagree with Partial Preterism and Postmillennialism for the most part but I am still thankful for him as a brother in Christ! Love some of his work!

Thank you for mentioning this ( i just came upon the part where you mention it, thats my bad).Regarding the advanced ages. I read something that explained that numbers were counted differently. 6 and 12 were important, they counted not by fingers but by finger joint. On some of the ages if you divide 12 (I think) it gives you the real age like 70 80ish. It could also represent wisdom. Or they just lived long haha the video is out there somewhere.

Hey brother Mike, concerning the chronology of the seals, trumpets, bowls there is an easy answer ^^ 1.Corinthians 15,51-53 (also in revelation 11) "AT THE LAST TRUMPET". When does the rapture and resurrection take place? At the sixth seal as we read in revelation 6-7. So its clear that the trumpets and seals are somehow parallel to each other. the bowls have to be separate from the seals and trumpets because they contain Gods Wrath to which we are not appointed (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10) so the true Church of Christ has to be gone already at this point. Just because we can't figure out many thing's in the bible it all boils down to faith. It's great that people are studying it just don't let some thing's a make or break situation for your faith. I love to people's questions they are very interesting 🙂but God never says we will understand all thing's. I think the bible is a lovely 😍book with very comfortable and loving thing's God wants us to know search the scripture It's really a lot of fun to read to me. I love to read it. I never look at it as a have to but a want to.

Everyone trying to appear intellectual and knowledgeable, like you said Pastor Mike our brain is like comparing us (an onion) to God (Breather of Life). We are not "intelligent or knowledgeable, (only in our own minds) we are mere humans living a human life, trying to understand a God who creates worlds by speaking them into existence! The world in all their "intellect" can not understand the truth.. I Corinthians 1:18-21 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. ... For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”

TO MARIA - I am praying for you, your baby and your family. I would like to encourage you to read Psalm 139 - this is how God sees you, but it is also how He sees your child. “His eyes saw your child’s unformed body; all the days ordained for him/her were written in His book before one of them came to be.” You don’t need to do anything except trust God, and He is more than able, motivated by love alone, to care for you - whether your child’s lives many days or few; whether healthy or with difficulty - God will not forsake you; He can be trusted. With love.

It's taken me months to accept the believe get baptized thing, because my brain still wanted to know more and be more sure of all the bible says, despite believing in Jesus and God and Jesus dying on cross for our sins. After I was like yep I should, we studied John with the Samaritan lady at the well and my brain was able to go, oh she doesn't understand but she believes, and while it doesn't say if she or the people got baptized, it did help me realise not needing to have read all the bible etc. And then other parts telling me to get baptized when you believe allowed me to make that decision, so I will be baptized in August because that's the next baptism date. Hardest part is working on testimony

I'm in the same boat. When my current church asked me if I wanted to be baptized, I struggled mightily with it. I reasoned "I've been a believer for 30 years, why would I get baptized now?". Months of struggle, prayer, reading, and fighting pride, and finally I'll be baptized next week. Glory to God!

Just a couple random topics for the day... I saw a post, I wasn't able to actually read the article but the headline stated that "scientists released a *peer reviewed article* about accepting the possibility of intelligent design." That'll be interesting to see the atheist/skeptic to jump all over. Also; I was randomly searching "converting from round to oval chain ring" on my bike...anyway, once I typed in *convert* KZfaq automatically filled in "convert to Islam," which is something I've never searched. It was also the only religious search recommendation. The other suggested searches were converted gallons to litres, American to Canadian dollars, etc... seems a little too convenient lol.

About “the restrainer” I always struggled to understand this scripture too until years ago I hear someone say this could be the angel Michael. They pointed to Daniel 12: “...Now at that [end] time Michael, the great [angelic] prince who stands guard over the children of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; but at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the [a]Book [of Life], will be rescued...” Where it says Michael will arise means he is standing guard of your people but he will arise(taken out of the way) and then there will be a time of trouble. I think it makes a lot of sense and it is the only theory that has any scriptural evidence to back it up.

Hi Mike, the sound problem had me scrambling around a bit untill I read the thumbnail 😂 Regarding Q5 about Mark13 and Rev6, its something that I have been thinking about as well. Note that Jesus said in Mark 13:24 "....after that tribulation..." The way I understand it comparing with Rev6 and following verses, is the tribulation ends at the 6th seal, the rest, trumpets and bowls, are the Wrath of Almighty God. Also, regarding the trumpets and bowls, the way that I understand it reading Rev 15:6-7, the seven angels that had the seven plagues (trumpets) were given the seven bowls. They seem to be sequential i.e. trumpets then bowls. The bowls also seem to be more intense than the trumpets, almost like God in His mercy and grace, starts off with "less" (for the lack of finding a better word) These are only my thoughts, im sure that time will correct me! I think perhaps we were intended to not be able to completely unsort this knot that is in times prophecy like in Revelation and in Thessalonians because it is by definition a spiritual mystery. And I believe that it is a mystery that is being increasingly revealed but I feel as if that mystery will not fully be revealed until we need the information and for me that is as we actually enter and times it will be something to be discovered and to be seen clearly perhaps for the end times believers whatever that means

Thank you for touching on the possibility of Revelation being 7 separate narratives to be overlapped into one, like 7 spirits before throne united into one Holy Spirit. Could understanding Revelation as 7 concurrent narratives cause a big change in helping people receive Holy Spirit of prophecy, which misunderstanding it as one consecutive narrative could cause continual falling from fully overcoming?

I don’t personally buy into any of the non-literal reading I’ve heard. But I share them because I’m open to it if they can be supported to be the original intention. Still, I’m not convinced yet.

There are a lot of weird things about the numbers and multiples 5s adding 7s in Genesis 5 which make it likely someone was trying to message something with the numbers. They also have very strong connection to the Sumerian King’s list. I think Genesis 1-11 has much older dating than Genesis 12-50. There are difference in the ages there. Remember Abraham was old at 100 while his grandfathers would have just been getting started right? Meanwhile numbers later, for example the time of David, appear to be historical in the way we think about it today. It doesn’t matter to me. I am not going to stop believing the Bible or in Christ over something I just don’t understand that isn’t relevant to Jesus dying for my sins. If Jesus died and God raised him up the fact that we don’t understand clearly Genesis 5 doesn’t matter. I’ll find out later 😀.

Pastor Mike, I have a question that I’ve pondered for years. We both know Jesus was born in human form, was crucified, rose again, and ascended to heaven, in his physical body. Do you think Christ is bonded to his human form for all eternity? For example will we meet Yeshua as he walked the hills of Israel 2000 years ago?

#6 is one of the most important questions/answers I've seen on the Q&A podcasts you've done, maybe it's personal because I've been thinking about it a ton lately in seeing how many people read and interpret the Bible verses how you have been doing in your mark series, or just hope you attack the bible in other podcasts. I've been wanting to ask something similar and not selling with it but just really wanting to know; how much of the bible can we read and take personally? I know I have heard the quote "never read a Bible verse" with the emphasis on "a" meaning singular, often taking it out of context. And I've heard frank Turek say once that Jeremiah 29:11 is the most misquoted scripture because it's not about me, it wasn't written to each one of us individually, it's there for us to read but not to apply to our life. So when can we take a scripture personal, when can we take what God said in his word to be for us specifically or is that just what we've done to make ourselves feel better in our faith. You did a great job answering this, I'm taking notes to teach my kids when they grow up, but still trying to grapple with this idea

Hey Mike, I have a friend who asks, "What's wrong with letting people believe what they believe, and why do you feel the need to push your worldview on them?" I tried to explain that I value truth and believe in objective truth, and when it comes to worldviews really only one can be true, and that if someone is going to believe something seriously, then it should probably be true. That question ab rape in Deuteronomy is a good one. I've found that it depends on the translation you read. The NIV punishes a raped woman while the KJV punishes the one whose guilty of committing rape. Translations matter & not all of them are good translations. Any new translation has to be 10% different per copyright law. There are hundreds of different translations & I don't believe there are hundreds of different ways to say the same thing. Some translations actually do contradict (The verse on rape in Deuteronomy is a great example because one verse punishes the raped woman while the verse above it doesn't.) & give atheists ammo & diminishes faith in Christians when pointed out & confirmed. My brother thought the NIV was fine until I pointed that out to him & he thanks me to this day, several years later, for doing that. Keep in mind that not all translations are equal. If you disagree, that's fine but you haven't done your homework & alot of Christians just blindly pick up a Bible & stick with it. I'd rather someone pick up a bad translation than never pick one up at all, though. There's still good theology there. If someone ever points out a contradiction in a translation, do your research on others because not all translations say or teach the same theology. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's a demonstrable fact. Pick up an NIV, ESV, & KJV & read them together. Sometimes they'll all agree, sometimes only a couple agree & sometimes all 3 disagree on what a certain passage/verse says. It's an interesting study.

Mike can you talk more about the beliefs of the Greek Orthodox church? You did one on Catholicism. My sister is Greek Orthodox and she always says they are not the same as Catholics which I know to some degree but their traditions seem to be pretty much the same to me. If you can explain how they view Mary. Somehow they attribute deity to her.

In reference to the question about why was the book of Esther canonized and what was the purpose of it. It must’ve been for historic perspective as a result of Saul’s disobedience in not destroying the amalakite queen therefore setting the stage for Haaman to try to destroy the Israelites and it also has the spiritual connotation that JESUS is the righteous scepter through which we can enter into the presence of the King, Yahweh being allowed to live because of what JESUS did on the cross by shedding His innocent blood so that we would be righteous and taking upon Himself our evil sinfulness and be punished instead.

For a long time I suspected that somehow the very old ages of certain characters somehow was related to how long the family name was carried on, through his decedents. Or something like this! Or it that it has to do with there walk with God somehow. I still haven't fully figured it out either!

@53:50 an interesting point is that if a skeptic assumes the judges who enforced the Law were blind to the possibility that a man attacking a woman in the city could prevent her from crying out, then the skeptic must also assume a woman could lure a man into the country and then claim rape in order to avoid her responsibility, or even to deliberately get him killed. From there, a reasonable person must conclude that the underlying principle is consent to engage in sinful actions. Skeptics who wave passages like this one are rarely interested in exploring all the counterfactuals, just the ones most useful to their skepticism.

In regards to the long ages of people, Josephus speaks of this in his writings and he says that "the ancients", as he calls them, were known to live long ages. Josephus says this in his book Antiquites of the Jews. "Now when Noah had lived three hundred and fifty years after the Flood, and that all that time happily, he died, having lived the number of nine hundred and fifty years. 2 Thessalonians 2:6 - And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. The answer to this question is in verse 3. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;" When this falling away or apostasy comes the the Antichrist will be reveal. And it is either the Holy Spirit that is holding this falling away or Michael the Arc angel. We can see a glimpse of Michael the Arc angel fighting the spiritual war in the book of Daniel chapter 10.

I made it through 25 minutes on the app but had to come back to KZfaq for the comment section. 😂 My cousins are Greek Orthodox and my uncle was an O priest for like 30 years. I haven’t asked much questions until the last few years, but have been asking more. On oral tradition, it’s not that that verse creates authoritative oral tradition about Jesus, but that it is supposedly a model of the early church observing some oral tradition they had. My response now might be, then why didn’t that tradition survive if it is authoritative? (They might say the O has preserved it.) Also, where does it say anyone but Jesus can make oral tradition. (They’d probably give the same answer.)

At 13:12 the ESV that you were reading from does not say in vs 37 the he would have no interest in women as been traditionally understood. It says he will have no regard in "the one beloved by women." This might be a deity that women worship. This also keeps in context with the passage as well.

1. I'll be the first to admit that I'm certainly not an authority on Astrophysics. I keep hearing apologetics and some other people claim that The Universe definitely had a beginning. I'm not sure that there is any Scientific Consensus regarding that hypothesis. The 'Big Bang' (expansion of energy from a Singularity) manifested the beginning of 'spaces time', but I don't think anyone suggested that there was sufficient evidence to substantiate the hypothesis that The Universe had a beginning. I don't have the requisite credentials to answer this question... Nor does William Laine Craig. I believe in G-d, yes. But, at the same time, intellectual honesty is very important to me, so I can't refer to that hypothesis as a 'fact' or legitimate Scientific Theory until it's been proven.
