That's absolutely false and it doesn't even make sense. He prefers open G because he likes the sound and it's easier to work out what's a comfortable key for Mick to sing in. That's why he often uses a capo in open G.

Keith Richards was a simple and yet complex guitarist all in one. Most of his riffs are easy to play for the most part.. however... the style and fluidity he put into those simple riffs is what makes them so hard to learn. Its almost as if he mixed punk rock ( before punk, of course) with blues technique

I noticed that, too. Not many people get Wild Horse in Open G or You Can't Always Get What You Want in Open G correct. However, saying it is spot on is relative because Keith would layer guitar tracks each in different tunings, whether it was overdubs, or for the entire track. Nonetheless, great guitar playing.

Sound like you guys know a thing or two about guitars and The Stones. I am New to the guitar, but I read Keiths book years ago and remember him telling that he plays alot of his thing with only 5 strings, and does something he call, open g tuning. Can anyone explain to me what that is about and how it works? Love the video btw
@jonathanjohnson8656
@jonathanjohnson8656 4 жыл бұрын
@@RockNRollDad88 the open G tuning is usually achieved by starting at the largest string( E) tuned to D, keef removes this string because it's not really necessary for his style. the next( A) string is tuned down one to G, the D string is kept D ,so no change, same goes for the G string, the B string is kept at B, the high E string is tuned down to D. So you're only really changing two strings if you remove the big E. With this tuning strumming the open strings results in a G chord. By barring the strings you are now achieve chords by using one finger. Keef often uses the middle and ring finger to make seventh( i think) chords and just that will go a long way. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I am can be more helpful. Im a twenty year intermediate and I see kids that can play circles around me. But your comment was recent and I hope I was a bit of help. Good luck.

First time I’ve ever heard The Last Time played exactly right and precisely the way Brian Jones played it in the studio - with those deep open strings that absolutely give it that haunted quality. Nice 👍 one ! Brian was a fabulously innovative guitarist - and an extremely clever musician - unfortunately he made up for it by being incredibly insecure - being in a group with Mick and Keith did him no good either. But he was super talented and died way before his time. Thanx for playing these great riffs - love ‘She Said Yeah’ - that song hit like a sledgehammer when I first heard it back when I was 17 - also love Mercy Mercy and That’s How Strong My Love Is - if yer fancy uploading em ?? Thanx v much !! Rxx

Well I followed her, to the station, with her suitcase, in my hand. Yeah and I followed her to the station. With her suitcase, in my hand. You know, it's hard to tell, it's hard to tell. When all, your love's in vain....

The live version of that song from Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out is one of the greatest tunes I’ve ever listened to in my life.

I closed my eyes and just listened and was able to identify every riff by name except Back Street Girl and She Said Yeah which I'd never heard before.

Would be cool if you could layer videos for the opening guitars of Gimme Shelter. Very nicely done overall!

Easy but very tiring barring those one finger chords. I don't know how he does it.

Hi, I too have a lot of fun doing Keith's things, in the last few periods I have been trying to reproduce Ronnie's things too, I always liked his way of playing. Especially when he was in the Faces he did great things, but also with the Stones he has his own particular technique.
