It amazes me how Pat came from humble beginnings and built an empire from ground up. I really feel that he must have believed on himself in a gigantic size just to foresee where he is heading to when he was still starting to build his success.

Patrick you're prophetic my Brother. I actually thought I'd become crazy. Ive just graduated last month, i have a basic 9-5pm. I sleep 6-11pm, start coding at 1am-7am, then off to work, weekends im fulltime coding & strategizing my project. Through the 9-5pm, i basically spend 95% running through scenario's, product designs, strategies, models, and by launch time i grab my Sketchbook, and note down all ideas to be implemented when i get home. Ive been doing this for about 2-3years, that i do this unconsciously now, i feel like im in such a hurry. I cant handle bullshit conversations about nothing. On my bus rides i read pdf papers on Cloud/Networking/internet technology in attempt to trully become an expert. What you're saying here is great to hear, because ive gone from alot of friends to simply hanging on my own. It feels like we dont speak the same language anymore. I work so hard because i want to revolutionize the tech industry in Africa, im tired of the bullshit narrative my country has. I believe only innovation & capitalism can change this. Even if i fail i have to be an example for the ones who'll get it right in the future.

Just remember that networking is the key to building a successful company because it is here you develop an all star team and can put together partnerships as well as get a lot of good ideas and be able to validate and/or amend your current ones through conversations with smart people. If you're looking to build a successful company you cannot isolate yourself. You need people, you need relationships, and you need constant engagement with people. It is not a solo mission. It may begin as one but your goal is to make as many people buy into it and be a part of it as possible. Remember, as Founder, success means you build something so attractive and lucrative other more talented leaders want and will take over for you as ceo and take it to the next level. You are quite literally building success until you made yourself as ceo not the best choice for the ceo position. You're building yourself into unemployment. That's what a good founder-ceo aims for. This is not about ego. You can have the ego with what you left behind when you finally create your exit / liquidity event. YOU NEED TO CONSTANTLY BE ENGAGING WITH PEOPLE ON ALL KINDS OF LEVELS TO BUILD SOMETHING TRULY SUECESSFUL. It took me 35 years to learn this.

Patrick has painted a great picture of a founder. Based on his success and experiences I believe it is an accurate perspective on what makes a good founder. As a young founder I will strive toward developing these qualities to be in line with Patrick's input.

I'm a founder. I checked the box for 18/20 of these. I completely agree about the importance of every executive role within a company and also completely agree that a founder is rarely the person who takes the company to the next level. There is a time I know it will be best to step down and let a seasoned manager take what I and my team built to another level. And I am totally fine with that because a) I'd rather have less or no control of something much more successful and enriching than the reverse, and b) I have 6 more ideas I am dying to build. I bring to life my visions of what should be or what will be in the future. Managing a success is much less interesting to me and because of that I recognize that's when you're most vulnerable to making company sinking mistakes. Although I believe I would be a good manager of an already elevated company as I would constantly want to grow the company through evolving it and keep it forward thinking, unlike google, microsoft, and even apple who are all hardly tech companies building the future anymore but instead consumer goods companies who only slightly tweak the product / service with a new bell and whistle hear and there but don't actually innovate and create too much. Ex. Google sitting on billions in cash because they have run out of ideas to build.

I think perseverance is 99% of the game. If a founder has properly evaluated his idea, and truly believes in its potential I think that the only thing stopping the operation from becoming successful is willpower and perseverance. Never, ever quit

You're speaking right to me here, sometimes I feel absolutely mad to be doing this to myself, some days it feels like I'm chasing a dream at the expense of a life - but deep breaths, recall my purpose, walk a bit, talk outloud with a dictaphone, suddenly it all comes back and can be made sense of. For 4 years, as i pursued culinary as a career after retail, i worked for a start up cooking food for dogs for a Polish man named Peter. A lot happened during those 4 years that now looking back a year after going out of business, I am currently working on a side business and have found a lot of similarities between his start up and my side hustle Peter taught me a lot by his words and his actions. He is such a kind man. I miss those days.

Hi Patrick, I believe the "Moody" part is not really about moodiness. For me, it's just Professionalism. When we're talking about business, it's just business; talking about plans, just plans; talking about what went wrong, the difficulties and challenges, we're just talking about those and nothing else. It doesn't change my relationship with whom I'm talking to. And so after all the brainstorming and difficult discussions, we could always go back to being the good friends that we are. Nothing personal. :) This is just for me.

Hello, Pat. This is My first Comment on your videos. I have been watching you since last 8 months or so. Luckily I was at the brick of leaving my college studies, come back home to Bangladesh from Malaysia and start an e-commerce platform. The first two months I was watching your old videos for hours everyday which certainly helped me to decide and execute my plan. For the last 6 months I've been working on my idea and business, which isn't new but I'm trying to craft it as the best version of all time in context to my country. We're still in development phrase and waiting for our product which is the website and app to be finished. At first it was like 2 months to start but after all these months it's still looks like another couple. I've lost people around me and left with only one of the 9/10 people I had. But we are holding strong and trying to hire new people who suits our company as well as has the urge. But the number one problem is money. We have very little fund and salary we can offer is nothing compared to our competitors. We are already paying the price of not spending enough to hire specialist on development which could've gave the product sooner then where we at now. I don't what's gonna happen, but I believe we can make it. Just wanted to share this you as we might never get the chance of talking. I would like you to inform that you're doing a tremendous job helping entrepreneurs all over the world. God bless you. Thank you for all your videos and advice.

A founder who started a company (startup) is like flying a plane. What I mean by that is that the most dangerous part of flying is takeoff and landing. The majority of accidents and loss of life are usually during takeoff and landing. When founders start a company, they understand that majority of startups fail within the first year, about 60 to 80 percent. The remaining 20 to 40%, about 90% don't get past the 5th year. So the worst-case scenario, less than 2% make it past the 5th year. So founders have to have 2 of the main important attributes; VISION and MISSION. Vision is seeing the future with your mind, not your eyes. It's like superman, they see things ordinary people don't, the future. Then the MISSION is their attitude, effort sacrifice, and drive that will help them get over the hurdles that make the difference between success and failure. Once founders get the plane takeoff to a safe level, they give it to the CEO, CFO, COO, etc o take over. These people were trained in school, with their credentials; MBA, CPA, Advisors, and others but it takes a special person to be a founder. They are a special breed, the trailblazer, the risk-taker, who often take road less travel and think outside the box. Often they bend the rules but do not break them, they are labeled crazy only because no one has ever tried. When they succeed and solve problems, or improve people's lives they are called genii or brilliant. So yesterday, they were called crazy, today forward brilliant, but one thing for sure is that they are the ones who bring improvement to people's lives and make this planet a better place to live on.

Damnit Pat. I have no idea how I stumbled on you why I started watching your videos and I don't care. I'm so glad that I did. No I don't idolize you, from a business perspective yeah I look up to you a little bit, bit I listen because you get me and I appreciate that more than you know. No one has ever been able to correctly call out so many qualities and thought patterns I've had much less without directly speaking to me. Just another affirmation that I'm definitely on the right path. So to the list if I remember right I missed 2. I don't have a board yet so that doesn't work. I do talk to myself, but in my case my lips usually are moving my brain usually isn't loud enough to bring things to life but speaking that does it, you'll understand when we meet my Louisiana friends call me Barry and Mufasa. Oh man so many of these made me laugh out loud. Like the Moody hilarious. Yeah, I have pretty demanding expectations and when I do snap it's usually loud, everyone knows it and it's quick but once it's done, it's done I'm laughing and smiling again a few minutes later. When I was a child I had to go to anger management and I got three things out of it. 1) take my time before reacting when I'm mad 2)disrespect is what sets me off usually 3)my mother's favorite quality about me was that I'm never mad very long. Never after 10 minutes (that's when people usually apologize afterwards because they know they messed up if I'M still mad) almost always done being mad in 60 seconds or less. Darting eyes. Love it. Only when I'm making complex decisions with many moving parts. If it lasts more than 2 minutes I'll probably make a visual to help me out. Can coexist. When it comes to things I know nothing about I just like to set the goal, tell them how it needs to operate and how I want it to look. Do whatever you want/need to get it done. The rule is: if whatever you do can't destroy the company then try it out you know what we need, make it happen. Integrity: loved that one. Yeah it might seem like I have no rules but that's only to those that have the usual rules. I don't play by most of them because I find them too restricting however I add a lot of my own rules because there's some things I just won't do, it's usually a respect thing. Anyways I know there's more I just can't get to it right now. As im sure Tom mentioned I've got something for you guys (Mario, I'm sorry you were left out initially but suffice to say I've been waiting weeks for yours to get here so I can send them out together.) Very thorough comment. I love Valuetainers who actually study the content and break it down. As far as the suit goes, I felt like throwing some Valuetainers off. 😉 I had a board meeting with my investors. I dress up every once in a while.

Thanks. Personally if they don't break it down I just don't understand what keeps bringing them back. The interviews maybe? (To be honest I don't really care for your interviews though I'm looking forward to watching the one about Ms. Huffington. Built a major player from the ground up. Also happens to be a beautiful woman. Should be a good time) though I do love the case studies which reminds me: I'm behind one.

O my God! This video needs to be viewed by my friends, wife, and parents to understand what's going through my mind. I'm not crazy talking to my self?! I cannot count the number of times people cough me in a middle of loud thinkg, asking me with whom the hell am I talking to. Actually I can't understand how can anyone think clearly and find creative solutions without thinking out loud.
