A weird or scary thing growing inside our bodies is the worst nightmare of any people. For the most part, this fear never turns into reality. But, for some unlucky souls, the threat became very real. From living insects to growing vegetables here are shocking things found growing inside a human body.
1. Unborn Twin
No one got more relieved after losing weight around the belly than Sanju Bhagat from Nagpur, India. For 36 years, Sanju had a huge bulge around his belly. Despite many efforts, he couldn't get rid of the excess weight which he thought was fat or a tumor at best. People used to make fun of him, teasing him by saying he looks pregnant. Ironically, they were actually right. One night when he was having a really hard time breathing, he rushed to the hospital. Doctors initially thought they were about to operate on a huge stomach tumor, but they had no idea about what they were about to face. Usually, when this happens both babies die before they are born.
2. Monster Tumor
While being pregnant, a woman's body usually only feeds her baby but in Nicola Ellington's case, she was also feeding a monster. Ellington is the first pregnant woman in the world who had a “Teratoma” tumor removed from her. Teratoma is the Greek word for monster. The reason the tumor is called Teratoma is that it has cancerous cells with teeth and hair. It really looks horrifying. It’s believed Ellington had this tumor in dormant condition since her birth but when she got pregnant, the monster started growing. It started feeding off her pregnancy hormones and grew rapidly in her chest.
3. Potato In Reproductive organ
What’s your favorite contraception method? According to this 22-years-old Colombian woman, it's a potato. Yes, you heard that right. This unnamed woman was suffering from severe abdominal pain when she was rushed to a clinic in the central Colombian town of Honda. The doctors were surprised to find that the cause of her pain was a potato. The vegetable had sprouted inside her reproductive organ and that’s where the excruciating pain was coming from.
4. Fish in Lungs
Do you love fish? Well, certainly not more than Anil Barela. Barela is a 12-year-old from Madya Pradesh, India. As a challenge with his friends, he proceeded to swallow a live fish from the river that they were hanging at. The teenagers had done this multiple times before and didn’t think it’ll turn into a deadly complication. This time when Barela pulled this stunt, it didn’t go quite as expected. Instead of going into the food pipe, the 3.5 inches long scaly fish got stuck in his lungs. He was having a very hard time breathing and was rushed to the hospital immediately.
5. Worm in eye
When 75-year-old Pk Krishnamurthy went to see the doctors at Fortis hospital, Mumbai, India, no one was prepared for what was about to be revealed. Krishnamurthy had been experiencing itching in his right eye for almost two weeks. At first, the doctors gave him some medication to help with the itching but none of them worked. Upon taking a closer look, the horrified doctor discovered a five-inch-long worm wiggling and swimming inside his eyes. He was then rushed to the operation theatre where the doctor removed the worm alive from under the conjunctiva.
6. Horn
Shyam Lal Yadav, a 74-year-old farmer from India had an unusual problem. After he bumped his head years ago, he started noticing an abnormal growth on his skull. It was a tumor called sebaceous horn that’s made of the same keratin that we see in our hair and nails. Initially, Yadav’s barber used to cut it a little to keep it from growing too long. But after the growth started speeding up, Yadav had to seek medical help to remove it. These tumors are usually benign and don’t cause much trouble apart from the cosmetic perspective.
7. Spider in Stomach
So as it turns out, spiders can be inside human bodies in more than just one place. Unlike the previous story featuring the invasive creature, this time the spider was found inside a man's stomach. One morning, Dylan Thomas from Australia woke up only to find a two-inch-long red mark on his stomach. As any sane person would do, Dylan went to see a doctor about this mysterious mark. The doctor thought it was just an insect bite and gave him some antihistamine as medication. But, the trail grew longer with time and went two to three inches further up his chest with painful blisters. That’s when the doctor realized, it wasn’t an insect bite at all.
