Well yeah, this is the pilot episode. Pilot episodes are pitches, made by an understaffed team, to make a basic idea of what the show is about. This is an exceptional animated pilot for its time. Just compare it to Adventure Times pilot which came later. In animation regards, the animators used Cell Shading. Basically, they’d have a background that they use as the canvas, like the inside of the Krusty Krab. Then, they’d draw a character, for example SpongeBob. SpongeBobs character would be drawn on a sheet of see-through plastic too. And placed overtop of the backdrop, and then the next one on top of that for a scene. I do not blame them for inconsistencies with the Anchovies eyes, when they had to draw that many separate cell shaded pieces, one for each frame on anchovies alone, with a pilot episode budget. Cell shading was useful for hand drawing as when drawing the next frame, they could trace over top of the lays by placing the entire sheet of plastic underneath the new frame and tracing it. They did a great job with this system considering they had about as many consistency errors as other episodes in both this season, and all later ones until S9 when the animation was finally stepped up and wide screened, and even more so S10 when they got crazy with expressiveness on characters. They actually at one point started selling individual cell shaded frames from the show, which would contain the background layer, and every other layer making up a singular frame. You could actually own a piece of an episode. These were obviously only Season 1, as Season 2 went away from Cell Shading. Nice video though, it was entertaining.

Squidward's teeth look purple because it's dark in Krusty Krabs at that moment, and in darkness, white objects often look blue-ish or purple-ish. And that pole looks purple because that small red light from the spatula illuminated it. The animators went for realistic lighting

Spongebob's eyelashes always disappear when he blinks

the “inverted credits” was the boom of them hitting the pole, also the window was there in the scene , if you look between the anchovies

There is no such things as a perfect cartoon pilot.

There could be a thousand mistakes but I still won’t stop loving this episode ❤

Wow, i was honestly excepting errors as in like, *BIG MISTAKES* . No it's just simple continuity errors that happen in like every animated show known to man, what's next? Are looping backgrounds gonna be an error XD.

I think the flag and the teeth were only purple because they are white objects being shown in a darker or more shaded setting and instead of just a grey aquire a purplish hue to represent darkness. Also, the pole may be turning red in some scenes because it is shiny and reflecting Mr. Krabs red shell only showing at certain angles. Maybe.

3:18 Every door, window and sign from the background is missing. (The kitchen's door, Mr. Crab's office door, Squidward's counter... etc)

The first mistake with the window, that was the first design of the house, so that means any other episodes with 2 windows is a mistake.

I think that slight shake was part of the video reel or projector thingy idk what it's called but yeah it was part of that Because it was 1999 they had to use something to record a simple cartoon animation

7:00 to me it looks like the lighting from the spatula, but the lighting looks a bit weird, the thing is tinted, but the other side is still the original color

You missed 1 where when SpongeBob goes in the Krusty Krab the graffiti on the door is gone

I think there was one more mistake in that episode, at the near ending mr. Krabs said, "Hip hip" and squidward said hooray and tried to say his name, when mr. Krabs said hip hip again, squidward DID say hooray but he didn't say mr. Krabs name, BUT there was an animation of squidward trying to say mr. Krabs name.

These are interesting, but some of these are definitely explainable...

People really goin on this video's comments and defending the episode like the creators are going to watch this and have their feelings hurt. It's for entertainment, fellas! I certainly enjoyed it - I like to watch a Spongebob episode and then go on the wiki and read the Errors section and be like "HOW did I miss this?" Like in the Rock Bottom episode when Spongebob floats home with his balloon... his pineapple is just TERRIBLY photoshopped onto a picture of Bikini Bottom.

You Missed a mistake. In the scene where Spongebob is slicing the lettuce and the tomatoes, the gap between his teeth is white.

Well yeh thiers gonna be animation mistakes especially in the first pilot episode ever. From what I know Mr Hellenberg and his small team didnt have much time to write or animate this one. From what I know the Voice actors came in first and recorded thier lines as the episode was being written in real time and the animators were understaffed too only having like 10 at the time I think. They basically had a deadline to make with little time and had to rush this out or NICK would have pulled the plug on Spongebob for good.

Continuity errors in a pilot that only contradict later episodes or not "mistakes". They didn't "accidently" forget a window on spongebob's house, they just hadn't decided yet how many windows it would have. This is needlessly pedantic when things like the frame shaking and mis collared collars ARE mistakes that are kinda interesting to see.
