The Radio City Rockette Dancer's Rules Are More Strict Than You Could Ever Imagine. From Those High Kicks to Intense Rehearsals...
Subscribe: goo.gl/Hnoaw3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since 1933, spectators in search of holiday cheer have descended on New York City's Radio City Music Hall to watch the Rockettes perform in their iconic Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Eighty-six years later, the training and precision required of the show's dancers are as rigorous as ever-that much is evident just by watching their famous kick line. The elite group of 80 women chosen to be New York City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall each year, perform as many as four shows in a day during the busy season, with television appearances, photo shoots and hours upon hours of rehearsal time sprinkled in -- all while maintaining the poise of a professional dancer and a smiling face.
But what are these elusive women really like? You know, when the curtain goes down and they hang up their (eight) elaborate costumes for the day? The intense and demanding rehearsal schedule is enough to keep a few of us mere mortals away from trying to become on of the uniformed dancers. Not to mention the fact that they have to maintain those perfect figures year-round, and they have be prepared to re-audition every single year. Yes, these dancers are covered in sparkly outfits with big smiles on their faces and are probably full of Christmas cheer, but they truly are athletes. The Rockettes are known for their unbelievable precision with their dance routines, to the point that it’s almost militant. Hard work, a grid system to map out their performances, and a coveted spot in this historical dance company equals the life of a Radio City Rockette.

inspire734 in reference to your idea that women have curves all over... many women have small chests, no hips, and if they work out enough, their backs will be flatter than the typical curved back of a woman. Personally, when I’m a standard weight for my size, I do not have curves all over. So please don’t take your weird conspiracy theory as fact, because you’re most likely not thinking this up yourself, you’re just following along with something that for some reason made sense in your mind at the time. I love a good conspiracy theory, but you have to be able to discern what could potentially be true and what is complete BS.

Dance moms is a reality tv show. This is a production business. I don’t know what’s wrong about it. Dance moms “works” more hours over drama (not say they don’t work) but a lot of what they do is for show. These are working adults.

Dean Maher they are also seasonal performers, ballet dancers put more hours in then the rockets and the dance mom girls. Seriously you sound so dumb, of course the dance mom girls put in more hours they go to a new comp every week and are learning new numbers every week. You are practically comparing apples to oranges.

We were taught that we were responsible for holding our own body up straight, which these girls, I've noticed, don't always do. I've seen a few bend their torsos just a tad during high kicks.
@Talierau3
@Talierau3 4 жыл бұрын
The video gets it slightly wrong... the reason for the policy is center of mass. It's a liability to touch because shifting your weight onto another person is dangerous. It can mess with the synchronicity but that is only a side effect of the added effort it takes to support your weight and another dancer (or 2). When everyone is responsible for their own weight, it makes things safer and more efficient.

One of our dancers from our studio attended the Summer intensive and she tried out and made the team and has been a RCR for the last three years. Her name is Nadia and it’s easy to pick her out because she has beautiful red hair. With all that she does, she comes home to Ohio and gives her to the studio with the little ones and helps the older girls with their solos. She is truly amazing! Although I did not see her in this video. We love you Nadia!!!!

A former rockette was a tap teacher at my studio and she choreographed dances with kick lines in them. You can't actually put your hands on the backs of the people next to you because the strength of the arm can push you forward and make the line all wonky. Another little fun fact, if one person trips and falls in the kick line, the whole line goes down like dominoes

This woman told the girls, “For the recital, you will be doing a kickline with eye kicks.” This didn’t last long. Opening night of the recital, one girl slipped during the kickline. She was in the middle. All the girls face planted onto the stage. What did we learn here? *never put five year olds in a kickline*

I'm not so sure that I would want to be trained by a former Rockette, and I'm fairly certain I wouldn't want really young children trained by them. When that level of super-perfection is your norm, slowing down to normal human levels is difficult. And with children that young, I think the main thing should be that they're having fun, gain confidence and maybe discover what you're good at. Not to mention that five year olds have totally different proportions and level of fine motorics from adults, so surely it's obvious you can't take part of a grown ups dance routine for them?

Unless you are born into the system and a male androgyne you won't make it. They are all males. They along with the whole entertainment industry have been fooling us all our lives, but not any more. Look to the male flat backs, sure fire sign. All of Hollywood and music, politicians, actors are all inverted sexually. It is a system they are born into. No out siders. They make a great amount of money, all the top ones do.

There’s no comparison between any other female dance show and this elegant and timeless masterpiece. The thought that anyone, like the comment below would bring up the dance mom’s as any type of comparison, which is heavily edited and some dont actually dance properly, is offensive. I dreamed of being a Rockette. I did that type of precision dancing in a local dance group. It’s hard work! Hours of rehearsal every day for months just to put on a three hour show once a night for a week for charity. Wouldn’t trade the experience for the world, but I never made it to the Rockettes. My last show I was pregnant but didn’t know it yet. Changed the course of my life but in a good way.

When I was still a teenager Radio City was open every day complete with a movie, The Rockettes performed 7 days a week as did the orchestra and the ballet. Radio City decided to cut back the schedule for financial reasons. When I heard this I unthinkingly remarked "Glad I didn't decide to be a Rockette because I'd be unemployed." A coworker overheard the remark and remarked "I didn't know you were going to be a Rockette." Once again I had put my foot in my mouth and had to explain that I was trying (unsuccessfully) to be sarcastic.
