19: I reported three businesses here in Oz that showed on Maps that had closed. They were fixed within 48 hours. Pretty good I thought.

Did not know any of this. Lots to absorb. Thanks. One feature I would like is something like the maps from the Auto Club, the ability to select a scenic route the digital ability a paper map does not have to pop up a brief descritpion of noteworth items.

If you're still monitoring comments on this old vid I have a question about What3Words integration in Apple Maps. I know that I can plot a route from the What3Words app in Apple Maps, but I'm wondering if there will be a further integration in Apple Maps with this fascinating (and very useful) system of place identity and navigation.

Gary, thank you for the video. One common feature on Google Maps is to search for say restaurants from an address. So the use case, which is very common would be, I am going to say Tampa Florida and staying at a Holiday Inn. I put in the address for the hotel, I have it displayed on my Mac. Now I want to search in that area for say Grocery Stores. Today when you do that, it goes back to your HOME location and does the search. I want it to search on the area I have displayed on the screen in Florida. Am I missing something?

As usual Gary, great info! Having been in the Mac ecosystem for 13 years now - I find it difficult to remove myself from Google Maps. I've using GMaps for such a long time - long before I entered the Mac eco-system; I find it hard to trust any other map app. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION Apple will be chasing GMaps for quite some time. Although they are catching up; but will the user (1) trust their application and (2) behave in a way to use their app vs GMaps.

Hi Gary - great info as always! Is there a way to create a ‘Trip Plan’? I.e plan a 2 week trip that has multiple destinations and trips within it, e.g Day 1 from A to B and sites along the way, then Day 2 etc etc?

Probably not in the way you want. Buy you can create your own custom guide with all of the destinations in it so they are easy to find.

Quick correction on this video - you can actually copy the coordinates to the clipboard directly from Apple maps - If you click the three ellipses button on the upper right of a marked location, there is an option to Copy Coordinates to the clipboard. That being said, I use Google Maps almost always over Apple Maps, especially for bike or transit directions here in Sydney, Australia. I can't tell you the number of times I've received the message "Biking navigation in REGION is not currently supported in Apple Maps". I'd love to use Apple Maps but the service just isn't there.

One of the reason I don’t use 3rd party apps is I just don’t trust the apps by Google to not suck more battery life or also track me more. What are your thoughts so curios if it is just me.

It does that on your iPhone, but not Mac. I guess the idea is you wouldn't be using your Mac to navigate while driving.

It should be noted that many Apple Maps' 3D city views are extraordinarily outdated...in some cases from my personal experience as much as 3-4years...

Great...👌👌👌👍....Never use this app, always use google maps. Don't know why😱...I have one problem if you can help! I type in a location..OK..the location has a large circle around it highlighted why? I cannot seem to get rid of the circle. How do I get rid of the highlighted circle? Cheers Gary

Is the location where you are now? Perhaps you mean the circle that estimates your current location.

@@kevint7851 I don't think you can. I mean if you want to turn off Maps in System Preferences, Privacy, Location you can, but that disables the entire feature.

@@kevint7851 You can't remove it that I know of. It's a feature in Maps. And for me, it doesn't even come close to where I am actually at. I think Maps determines your approximate location based on the closest street address. It is not intended to be accurate anyway, as this could be construed to be a privacy issue.

That's just TextEdit. I launched TextEdit before and had it running behind Maps. Then I switched to it.

Nice thing I would like to see on ios if you can have option in maps desktop version to keep the map light colored in dark mode. I wonder why only in desktop version you can do this and not ios? Also satellite view with transit would be nice on both. Thanks

Hi! Great information. Unfortunately, while I was looking at your video in my iPad I opened MAPS and found that all those features that you show are not available or at least not visible in iOS. It does everything but when you want to click "Go" and actually have it navigate you from one destination to another. It doesnt have that. Which is what we use the apple maps for lol. so its pointless on the Mac.

This might be due to insufficient memory or even if your internal drive is nearly full. If you only have 4GB of memory, then having more than two apps active at a time might not work well. With 8GB, you should be able to run half a dozen apps easily. Hard drives, and especially SSD's, should never get below 20% free space or 30GB at an absolute minimum. SSD's actually work faster when they have more free space available.

Apple Maps lacks the most basic things we humans need to orient ourselves and figure out where the fuck we are. If Steve Jobs was alive he would be screaming. NOT intuitive and hyper-frustrating.

@@macmost Apple just needs to test their product on real-world users and watch how perplexed and frustrated people are. Why can't we drop a landmark, "a pin," actually name it what we want to name it, and have it permanently remain visible as a big star icon, so we can orient ourselves? So many times I have tried to do this, like yesterday here in Vietnam, and now again today they are all gone or named some local address which is meaningless to me as to which location that was… where are the favorites, where are the guides, who knows. Then you have to go digging and try to get the thing to pop up, which is NOT reasonable when in a foreign country under stress. And then the map is spinning all around different directions as well as sometimes randomly going into North mode thus constantly disorienting the person and defeating the entire purpose of a map app, which is that we normally want to go from one landmark to another. This basic functionality should come before a bunch of silly features which are useless to us if we can't do the primary. Most important is to understand human nature, which is that normal people just don't have a very high spatial IQ and so this needs to be made absolutely idiot-proof simple. We should have the option, and it should be the default, that the map is in "point it this way, and whatever is forward shows as forward." That’s a “duh” thing. Clicking on that dumb arrow, two or three times, oh this triggers really mysterious app behavior for normal directionally challenged people.
