On April 24, 2003 the first checkpoint opened in Cyprus, connecting its two sides for the first time since the Turkish invasion in 1974. But how many people actually cross?

I got lucky. I did a tour of duty in Cyprus with the RAF beforte the 1974 invasion. I know how beautiful the island is, all of it, but I won't go back until all of the Turkish military, the 200,000+ forced Turkish migrants and their dependants are forced to leave the Island.

They should open the borders completely. Greek and Turkish both lived together in peace until the UK joined the game. I admire Cyprus as a whole.

It's not a border. It is by definition a Cease-Fire Line. I agree with you, Cypriots lived together peacefully, regardless of being Rum Orthodox or Muslim. But there's a problem. 200 000 Cypriots were forced to flee their homes because of the Turkish Invasion and became refugees in their own homeland. Additionaly, 600 000 Turkish settlers were brought to the occupied area and live on Cypriot people's homes. So until everyone is returned their legal property and there is free passage anywhere in the island in an environment of safety for every Cypriot, the Cyprus Problem cannot be solved.

The female at the window with the white shirt with her child and husband. I'm guessing. Her passport is in Hebrew but she wanted to change that, what is she talking about? As a Cypriot from Silikou. I have not return back to the Island since I left in early-mid 1970s. My mother just came back to Cyprus. To do some papers with the consulate. She need to go back in a month or so to finish up with the consulate. My mother had a breakdown when her family took her back to see the old village and she finally visit her older son (my older brother) and other family members burial site.
