Haben Girma ’13, the first deaf-blind student to graduate from Harvard Law School, discusses her advocacy on behalf of individuals with disabilities and her work at the intersection of law, education and civil rights.

To the staff members of the Harvard Law School, thank for sharing your inspirational videos. As I always say because it's true, every day I look for inspiration to use to motivate myself to pursue my dream to be a lawyer. Be that as it may, I have a learning disability. But I've learned to live with it because yet I am still alive and I am happy. Also, to the Attorney Haben Gima, thank you for being an inspirational woman. Every day I look for inspiration to use to motivate myself to pursue my dream to be a lawyer. I have a learning disability, but I learn to live with it because yet I am still alive and happy. It doesn’t stop me from living. It doesn’t mean I can’t accomplish my dream to be a lawyer. I love all people from all walks of life as much as I love the law. In fact, when I become a lawyer, am going to be a nonpartisan lawyer who seeks the truth, and make a difference. In addition, I believe practicing the law is the best profession to resolve legal disputes. When I am a lawyer, I am going to use the law as a weapon, as an aid to serve people, and a tool to resolve problems within our communities because it is my dream career. God bless you guys!

I am 100% agree with @Hq ks .she would be successful if she born grown up Ethiopia or anywhere. it doesn't matter where you born or grown up to be successful as long as you work hard and believe in God you can be successful anywhere.just to give you example,the most successful people dr.kitawe ejegwe and Dr brook lakew who work as chief scientists in NASA both of them they born and grown up Ethiopia many more people have the same story

People who have a disability often seem to have a large amount humbleness, wisdom, and other qualities that come from a deeper place within. Haben has a lot of wisdom to offer and, because of the assistive technology featured in this video, she is better able to share that wisdom with the world.

I have both Ethiopian 🇪🇹 and Eritrean 🇪🇷 in my family and all I’m saying is it don’t matter what she is. What matters is the beautiful work she is doing. Her sorry had blessed me until I scroll down to the comment section where ppl are fighting over nonsense crap. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the original comment. I think she was just naturally smart too, I know for myself I can try my hardest but I won't get into harvard in 100 years, let alone Harvard Law, let alone being deaf and blind at the same time. I think she was one of the few lucky ones to have those disabilities but also be gifted.

When you are impaired in a certain area, you excel in others. The universe always gives you a way to succeed. Her story is truly amazing. Imagine how heightened and evolved her other senses must be.

Many deaf people learn to speak. They need Training as children. She said she can hear a little bit of high frequencies that helped her to learn to speak too.
