The basic steps to replace your rear struts in a 2nd generation Toyota Avalon. This also applies to most front wheel drive Toyota vehicles such as the Camry, Solara, ES300 series and various other models.

For my daughter's 2001 Avalon i am trying to install a rear backup camera. Can you show a step by step of how you removed the rear seat so i can figure out a way to snake the wires from the rear to the front of the car?

You never posted the rear seat removal video 😏

When putting the bumpstop back on is there a stopping point or indicator of how far down to put it?
@MikesRepairs862 жыл бұрын
Nope, it just floats in there and in the case of the spring and the strut bottoming out it will help absorb some of the impact.

@@MikesRepairs86 Awesome thanks man. Your video was really helpful as well!

Why go through all this just to put cheap Gabriel’s on? The reviews say they don’t hold up and are noisy: Thanks for the video none the less. I just wish you showed more information about the spring compression because that’s the number one barrier to anybody replacing separate spring/strut components over just getting a cheap readymount.

It's a 20 year old car and the deal of new shocks for about $100 was a no brainer. They ride smooth and quiet, almost like oem. I replaced all of the rubber components as well so it's not noisy at all.

Did u get like a knocking nose when you go over a bump. I have a 2001 and I'm getting like a knock noise when hitting bumps.
@MikesRepairs862 жыл бұрын
Yes, usually that noise is a prety good indicator of bad struts

check links and sway bar bushings. Bounce rear end if it bounces more than once or twice struts are bad

How was the ride afterwards did the car sit level
@MikesRepairs864 жыл бұрын
Car sits level and there is no more noises coming from the back or the front. The struts seem to ride almost like the factory ones but they are a bit stiff, which may go away with time.

How long of a job would you say it is to replace both rear struts?
@MikesRepairs864 жыл бұрын
Easily doable in about 2 hours if you have all the tools. Took me a day and a half due to filming.
@kgreene26134 жыл бұрын
Mike Balroop thank you and by the way what type of clamps did you use to put the springs on the struts??? I don’t have a shop available so I’m planning on doing this home with other tools to get the spring on.

I used the spring compressor kit from harbor freight, you can also rent it from your local auto parts store.

Just curious why did you remove the top sway bar link if you are replacing the struts anyway? No disrespect

It was actually rusted through and needed to be replaced. Not part of the project so I didn't mention it.

Why would you make a 20 minute video and not show us how to remove the seats..
@MikesRepairs863 жыл бұрын
The video is about replacing the struts, as its titled. I can make an additional video on how to remove the seats.
