2.65L V8T is way better than the 2.2L V6T in today's Indycar. More power and better sound.

The 10th and final CART win for Juan Montoya. Wish he could have gone to the IRL instead of going to NASCAR after quitting Mclaren in 06.

Champcar was still going in 06, would've been better for him to head there to the light side of the force than the sham of a vision

The fourth and last CART event at Gateway as it switched to an IRL event for 2001. Patrick Carpentier also finished 2nd at the same track in 1997. It was Juan Pablo Montoya's last win in IndyCar racing until 2014.

The last CART event at Gateway. It should never have been dropped.

It wasn't dropped. CART lost out on the contract to host the race (as well as losing Homestead) and the IRL secured the contracts to run both races in 2001.

Also 2001 was the beginning of the end for CART. Losing Homestead and Gateway, the cancelled races at Rio and Texas, the disastrous Start to the european leg of the season (The weekend after 9/11), Zanardi's career ending crash and Penske announcing they were jumping ship to the IRL.

Not so much dropped as the IRL colluded with NASCAR to shut out CART from most of ISC/SMI tracks.... They'd have continued oval racing forever if they were allowed to

They did, twice, but TV is not keen at all for prime time scheduling of an IndyCar race on a road course.
