Your vid got the job done on my 2002 silverado, using original equipment speaker purchased from Amazon. Also found the tweeter dangling, its two plastic mounting pegs having broken off. I removed the metal mesh grill so I could hold the tweeter in place and two #6 x 1/2" sheet metal screws with washers screwed perfectly into the holes left by the broken off pegs. Thanks for the help.

Just replaced both front speakers on 2000 Chevy Silverado Z71 Stepside. Got them on amazon ACDelco 15038566 $45.00 each, over $100 at dealer. I knew both were bad because I could hear tweeter in each door but not main speaker. That let me know signal was getting there and probably wasn't the radio or connection. Went well, video helped a lot. Couple of tips. What holds screws in is a flimsy strip of spring steel don't over torque them they'll split. If you do you can get square plastic fastener with screws at O'reily's in the Dorman parts section. Driver's side has more connectors, no big deal. The little clips hold things in will sometime pull off plastic, just get them out of door and push back on.

Great instruction. The close up of all the hooks on the panels is key. A guy tends to break those off if you don't know which direction the panel needs to slide. And once one of those plastic hooks breaks off you might as well buy another panel because it's never gonna be right again.

my truck is a 99 and it has tweeters also. if i replace just the 6.5 speaker will the tweeters still get all the words?

Thanks man. I've got a 2001 Silverado that I'm going to upgrade the speakers in. This video was very informative. How about the rear doors on an extended cab? Are they as easy?

I used this video as a base instruction to replace the oem speakers with another oem set. I had the speakers swapped out in 20 mins by myself. I will add my truck was a 2004 and I left the window lock/control panel in place prior to lifting the panel off the door. I found one tab was actually screwed in one spot from underneath. This likely would have broke if I pried it out. Just extra info. Overall great video.

What size are the screws ? Would i need a socket wrench

I love the factory sound that came with these speakers but it's time to replace and I don't want to spend a fortune for an older truck. Would really like to know where you got the replacement speaker. I've searched and cannot find. BTW great simple video!

Video was good for knowing how to get the door panel off, but would’ve been helpful more if you would’ve stated the sizes of the screws and would’ve also shown how to unhook the wiring for the windows/side mirrors. That part was a little confusing for me trying to find the right socket and trying to unhook the wiring. But overall you gave me the information I needed to get started. Thanks for the video and keep up the work!

My truck has a push button switch next to the headlight switch that allows you to turn off the interior lights when the doors are open. If you do not have this option but want to make sure the lights are off while doing the repair you could just remove the fuse for the interior light and then put the fuse back in when the work is done.

Mike, Is it possible to install after market 3-way speakers (I have mounting bracket adapter) with the existing GM wiring? will the tweeter on after market speakers make up for the disconnected GM factory tweeter? thanks.

Never tinkered with tweeters before so i am not to sure how to tell when they need to be replaced but what is the size of the tweeters? in my 02 all the speakers are dead sept for the driver side and that one is working on its last legs.. got the truck that way.. so i am not sure if the tweeters are also bad or just the speakers them selfs.. also need to tackle the speakers in the rear to :/
