As of 2010 Ford released a technical service bulletin stating that do to an unforseen design flaw in their late model 3.0 V6s that they were updating oil recommendation from 5w30 to 5w20 and "Not just recommends but highly recommends the change." Just something you may want to look into.

Is it the same if it's a high mileage?
@stan3936013 жыл бұрын
they must have drilled the oil return holes too small if they want thin oil used. I would never put 5w - 20w oil in much of any engine
@mtnmotoadv2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean 2010+ models or would a 2000 be included with this as well?
@jonbedker52292 жыл бұрын
@@mtnmotoadv I believe it goes back to 98 or 99. Most auto parts stores have the updated oil weight listed in their recommendations.

Thank you. I was wondering why my 2004's manual said 5w20 for the 3.0L. Too bad because my other vehicles take 5w30.

Thank you for the video. Much appreciated. You could have saved me a trip under the truck by calling out the socket size. Thank you

I would recommend any filter except Fram. They have really when down over the years. I personally use wix or Napa filters.

I liked the video but I have two suggestions. Do not use a FRAM filter under any circumstances. And do not wear long sleeves. Maybe it was cold when he did this?

did you say this was a 2000 Ranger with V6. Mine has the super cab but after lifting the rubber curtain my filter is not in the same place as what you show here. Mine is closer to the driver. Had to jack it up to get under it. The K&N filter with welded 1Inch nut makes this change so much easier
@kvgarage95955 жыл бұрын
There were two different V6 engines used in the 2000 model year. The 3.0 liter flex fuel V6 is what the video shows. The other was an unleaded-only 4.0 liter; I’ll bet you have the 4.0 if the placement is different.

@@kvgarage9595 i do have the 3 L flex fuel. After freezing your video and printing it does seem to be in the same location. Has yours got air conditioning , power steering and cruise control. Mine seems to have more stuff in the way. Would be hard to get at from the wheel well. It wasn't as bad from the bottom as i thought it would be. I bought the truck new in 2000 but only changed it myself a couple times. Getting old and health probs. Years ago i didn't have a floor jack and concrete pad , that do help. I do love the K&N filter , that welded nut on the end does make a difference and i only use full synthetic oil now days....Thanks Man
@kvgarage95955 жыл бұрын
@stan393601 I have power steering and AC but no cruise control. I have not used a K&N filter but sounds like that would be pretty slick. I may have to give it a try next time; thanks for the suggestion. Thanks for watching
