$cotty is back on two wheels again with one of two vehicles he bought brand new. Check out this 2000 Drifter 800 and find out some of the unique features and the amazing story of it's creation. It was only available for 7 years in the US. But, it was definitely a big part of the retro-themed motorcycles being produced by just about everyone at the time.

I seen about four or five different Drifters pop up on Facebook Marketplace this spring here in southern Missouri I bought one less than 2 weeks ago I'm having a lot of fun I've got 49 Mi on it now😅 and each ride was down a different country road that I'm familiar with where I hunt. I even went a couple miles down the gravel road to a remote place and took a swim and drink a couple beers, swam in a lake. I'm going to build a sissy bar in a cargo rack for hauling my Camp gear and hang my Gun,or bow on a sissy bar and or a fishing pole😊 got to have a place to put my stuff and it's got saddlebags on it to come off with some really nice brackets that come off the main frame. 😮 yesterday I customized and put my stainless steel face of Pontiac that came off of a 1940s Pontiac car and I took it off of a car when I was in my early twenties and now I'm almost 70 I customized it I mounted it on top of the handlebar risers with a leather pocket knife case on each side it looks great I'm going to put leather Fringe on the floorboards and maybe on the rear fender I'm having fun with it it sounds great it's got Vance and Hines exhaust with no baffles it's loud man

@@smithmotorworks1969 you're welcome yes this machine only had $5,400 Mi on it there was a beautiful 800 Drifter they came up for sale about a month or so ago just in Northern Arkansas about 100 miles from here it was beautiful I think it had about 10,000 Mi on it and it had the ostrich leather solo seat with matching fringed saddlebags I think a cargo rack in a sissy bar it was super sweet for 3000 that's what I paid for mine I couldn't pass it up but the one in Arkansas would have been an awesome buy too I just couldn't haul it

Hey Scottie.....I have a 02 drifter.....love it.. 23 thousand miles of smiles... wish I could send ya a pic.... I have been a Harley Rider most of my life. I get lots of compliments, and I usually don't mention it's a Kawasaki unless someone notices that it's metric...lots of ppl scratching their heads when they study it...I tell them " it's an 02" , if they don't know the history, I don't explain. ( riders ) ...thnx for the content...!

They are pretty awesome, aren't they? I love them all, but Kawasaki was my first dirt bike as a kid, so I'm biased. I had a similar experience with a WWII US Navy veteran. He chased me across a parking lot just to say, "Indian!" to me. It broke my heart to tell him what it really was. I guess that's a testament to how good of a tribute they built. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

i love the skirted fenders ...have the 1500 and the 800...love the power of the 1500 but the 800 is more authentic looking and quite frankly more beautiful than the 1500 . both are fine bikes i also have a vulcan 1600 classic id trade for a 800 drifter tomorrow if anyone is interested. I hate the duel seat...its an abortion...but it is what it is. I ride on a solo saddle

I like what Kawasaki did for the 800 and 1500 Vulcan during the early 2000s. I even owned one and received a ton of compliments. The bike reminds me of my grandfathers 1952 road master he owned. I’d like to find a clean 800cc with low miles for my collection. Wish Kawasaki would bring it back. The Indian bringing brought back through many different companies isn’t the same. Way over priced and their idea of this crap blackout look sucks. Seems the Indian today is pledged with problems for its high price and fit and finish. All the skirted fender Indians were road masters a deluxe version back in the day The Scout was at the lower end in price and was not with skirted fenders. Check your facts. I’m just a simple collector that has to know what bikes are about. Kawasaki just made a better bike with very little issues at a fair price.

I agree. It would be nice if they made them again. You're right about the earlier Sport Scout models. The early 40s definitely had skirted fenders, though. nationalmcmuseum.org/2019/12/27/1941-indian-sport-scout-model-641/ Thanks for watching and the comment!

What would have happened if Kawasaki had not released the Drifter in this form? I suspect that the successful return of the “Indian” motorcycle brand would not have taken place in this form either. Kawasaki has given a further boost with the Drifter models. That's why I see the Kawasaki Drifter as the midwife for the return of the “Indian” motorcycle brand. And at events, people should also stand by the Kawasaki brand, which has brought out a beautiful Drifter in the style of the 1940s. Without the Drifter models, the “Indian” motorcycle brand would certainly no longer exist today. Unfortunately, the “Victory” brand has suffered as a result. Polaris, the owner of both motorcycle brands, had discontinued the production of Victory motorcycles in order to increase and improve the sales figures of Indian.

@dennismundt7378 The Drifter was definitely the most successful design of the retro heavy cruiser era of motorcycles (Honda Shadow ACE and HD Heritage Springer Softail), IMO. I'm glad someone at Team Green had the guts to do it right! Thanks for the comment and for watching.

@gcanaday1 yeah, I agree. I understand, though. I imagine the cost to tool them for a low production bike would've blew their budget. When it was fairly new, I had considered getting reproduction Indian fenders and altering them to fit. Oh well, at least these won't rust. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
