I had the same exact problem on my brothers XJ. I used a scotchlock between the pink and blk/wht. wires. It fixed the gauges and radio power. No blown fuses and it hasn't cause any other problems in a week. Thanks, your video helped me troubleshoot my problem. 😊

This is not to bring down and say others are wrong, just another fix to add to the list of possibilities. I have 99 Cherokee Sport. Dead Gauges. The cluster check worked all lights and gauges worked during test but dead on start. Tore apart the dash, cleaned connectors, cleaned grounds, checked the airbag under the seat, check dome light, checked fuses, checked wires connecting to the cluster, checking the security lock, turning the key in the door x3. I tried every video and test i could find here. None worked. The thing that fixed mine was toggling the rear windshield wiper and that switch to the left of it. Flipped them both on then off and my gauges came back. must a short somewhere, not sure not a mechanic. But if you did everything you saw in all the videos on here take a few seconds to flip those two switches and see if anything changes. good luck

This happened to me as well, but it would come and go and sometimes it would have power, but freaking out. Fluctuating up and down. Ended up being dirty grounds for me. Glad you figured it out!

I just replaced my junction block and cleaned the hell out of the connectors. The antenna on my jeep is flared outboard from previous owners hitting a tree branch or something, they never fixed it. It leaks down into the junction box (there was NO grommet sealing the fender well from outside elements, and it's right above the junction box). My gauge cluster worked fine but I had a high idle and it went back to normal if I oopened any door. Before long the lights just stayed on and I had to pull a fuse which shut off the gauge cluster and radio among other things. Now I have a new Junction box... no gauge cluster lights (there is indeed illumination with headlights though). I know that the factor plug ins are known for issues due to plastic changing size over the years and coming loose in the back so I wedged some tough thin foam in there so they can't possibly move, still no luck. Now I will check the fuse. I had to repair 1 wire that broke free from the receptacle inside the connector on C4, I am thinking I may have done the same with whichever the gauge cluster is plugged into. Getting the connectors off the block from down there is a bit of a pain and using the wires to pull them out is almost necessary.

Looks like you have a short to ground in your battery line. I expect that if you leave headlights on with ignition off, after the jumper, then you won't get a warning tone...probably. Another solution might be to fish a new batt line from the fuse box under the glove compartment. But while ignition is on your solution should be as good.

Having the same problem. I cut open the boot between the drivers door and the dash. I found 2 broken wires but the insulation was intact. I r paired them and it looks like all is well. Had the problem more than 2 years and the quick fix is to disconnect the battery for a few hours so it resets. Hope I don’t have to do that anymore. We spent hundreds at the shop and in a week the problem was back. Very inconvenient.

it a bad ground the black green c1 (left connector) c2 (right connector) black green run new grounds.. and twist the male pins on the cluster..

I think the fix is fine but I'd check to see if the cluster is pulling any voltage from the battery when the car is off. There are so many fuses and relays that it could literally be anything. Even if the fuse lists "dome light" or something like that, the fuse may power many other components. You really need a schematic to trace down those two power wires which I'm sure you've probably done already. I'm thinking that you could have a stuck relay or even a short somewhere that's preventing power to that battery constant wire. Wiring is a pain in the ass. Someone who had it before you may have hacked into the harness and cut some shit or rewired it.

Okay tried fixing last night I don't get nothing from black wire I'm guessing it's not getting power any ideas I can run gauges off red wire but it's constant so got to keep unhooking battery

I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I had this same situation plus no radio or dome light. There is a small (ATM or ATR?) 15A blue fuse in the engine bay located in the row closest to the front and closest to the driver side. Pull it and check.

Took 10 minutes and worked great. Make sure you hook up the other pink wire back up to get power to the radio

I did this and it worked great. Thank you very much. But now whenever i leave my headlight on after i turn off the car the warning sound doesn't come on. My girlfriend always forgets to turn them off and it drains the battery. Any solution to make the warning work again?

Mine is 2001 XJ. Once I leave my xj 5 minutes after I unplug battery "-" terminal, gauges will work fine around 5 to 10 minutes. But After that 5 to 10 minutes, "airbag + enegincheck + no bus" warning will appear and all the analogue gauges will die. Did you have the same or similar symptoms?

Ok, same issue here! Researched to no avail! However, I have yet to try your trick! Seems to be the same issue? Instrument cluster will "self test", I've got lights, blinkers (though when the headlights are on, the ODO and radio lights are dim) dome lights, and a dead radio! Use to be able to smack the dash and it would come on, but now won't even do that!!! So, when you wired it permanently, how did you do that? Use solder? Or a tradition DC wiring connector. I'm typically quite handy with 12volt, however there is little room and I have big hands that don't work that great anymore! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

97 XJ and lost my stereo and my guages. Stereo was easy fix but no guages!!

Or, keep the wires intact, and replace the ignition switch, which is most likely worn out.
