Watch a full tutorial as a 2001 Honda Civic will have a used set of JVC 6.5" Speakers installed model CS-J620. These speakers can be purchased online or at any local retail location. This vehicle fits any 6 3/4" or 6 1/2" speaker in the factory location.

To the people having a hard time with the side cushions. I've got a 05. Those side cushions were VERY hard. It helped me by instead of coming in through the trunk to pry the tabs, I got a long screw driver and pried up from the side of the cushions. You'd think that lifting up on the cushion and prying with screw driver helps but it doesn't, just pry upwards with the screw driver and they popped out for me eventually.

Well done and helpful video, thanks. My main problem was the side cushion upper clip. Was behind a metal box area unlike in your video. Have 2004 civic ex. Could not get clips to budge so just pulled cushion out breaking the clip. After reassembly it didnt matter as lower bolt seems to hold it just fine. Also loved the tip with pliers pushing up clips from trunk. Made removing package tray easy!

Sounds like it's too late but I have an 04 and it wasn't easy but I did get the side cushions to come out by prying up on the tabs without breaking them.

You don't need to cut or use those adapters. You can use a small flathead screwdriver, weasel it in where the wires connect to the speaker in the factory clip, release the small plastic tabs holding the wires in place, while releasing the tabs pull the wires out of the connector. I did that on the front speakers, and it saved some headaches.

Ditto on the tip to release clips from below. Much smoother removal. Also manual release of the vertical clips would have made removal of the two side cushions much easier for me. Should have gone to Provo Beast FIRST. Thumbs up & thanks.

Those clips that hold on the package shelf can be removed easier with a 1/4" drive 8 or 10 mm socket.

Instead of destroying the factory speakers, use these adapters Metra 82-7500 Speaker Mounting Brackets.

You'll get better/cleaner bass if you add some gasket material to the top and bottom of the brackets.

Our 2005 Civic LXʻs side cushions did not come out as easily. Access to it was difficult. We ended up breaking that hook mount on the driver side back seat it was in there solid.

Thanks. I was actually considering replacing my rear speakers. This is a lot more work than I anticipated. I paid Best Buy to do the fronts like 20 years ago, but I figured the rears are probably on their way out now. Any idea why Crutchfield lists the rears at 5 1/4". I know that you are correct that the rears are 6.5", but I found it very odd that Crutchfield did that.

Wondering if it's just my ears but, my right door speaker and rear right is blasting my right ear really harshly with the 2-5k range. Wonder if it's the bouncing sound or maybe underpowered speakers. Just did an install recently following this and might try seeing if it's cable related and just rewire the whole thing with new wires. Installed in a 2003 Civic EX Sedan with JL C1 6.5s coaxial and a AVH-601EX deck

I have a question hopefully u can help me. I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze which came with no speakers in the back but the panels in the back showed no indication it came with speakers since they didn’t have a holes . I was wondering since the actual deck has the holes already there do I need to cut holes on the panel for the speakers . Also do I need to put spacers in between the speakers and the deck to keep them from touching the medal.

I wonder if it would make sense when doing this to mount the speakers from underneath? That way, the next speaker change is much easier(?) You can't see them anyway and I doubt being an inch lower would affect much.

You still need to get the factory speaker out, but you can give it a shot. Generally, speakers of this type are not designed for the inverted mount, only top mount, but give it a shot. Make sure you have a decent seal around the speaker and have good mounts.

The factory speakers in my 2005 Civic EX are 5 1/4 - 5.25 inch. Were the speakers you removed and replaced 6.5, or were they a different size? I don't want to do any metal cutting to make something fit. Will 6.5 inch speakers fit in this hole or should I go with the 5.25 size?

Hmm. I just said "fuck that" and popped the speaker covers off with a razor blade and a cat's paw. Took about 30 minutes install time, not counting the time going to the store for the speakers and another store for the harness adapters.

Where can I get a aftermarket bracket for the rear speakers? Everytime I look up the scosche it says “front speakers only”

If you don't want to make your own, you can drill and mount them with your own screws / hardware. You don't necessarily need a bracket.

It would save you a lot of time. The aftermarket bracket that can be used is the Scosche SAH6. Just search on amazon or ebay and purchase. Generally, they come in pairs.

Very budget aftermarket speakers, but regardless better than factory.

Hello, my rear speakers are broken and your video will help me a lot to install new ones, thank you. However, I do not intend to replace the original radio. Do you believe it will be able to run speakers as powerful as yours or do I have a chance that it will break because according to my research it has a power of 30 watts x 4.

The factory radio will put out between 8 and 15 watts RMS (at most) per channel, the 30 watts is peak power. You will get better sound quality and performance from an aftermarket radio that will put out between 15 - 25 watts RMS per channel. you will get even better performance with an external amplifier.

Well it's all in the ears of the beholder. Generally it will sound better somewhat, but remember, the factory radio now is 16 years old, so the bottleneck will be the radio.

It will require you to either modify a universal bracket for 6x9" speakers, or cut into the rear deck sheet metal to fit 6x9's. either way, it will take some creativity.

Just pop the trunk, and look upwards at your speakers - if they are perfect circles, they are 6.5. If they are oval, 6x9. Easiest way to find out.

Next time, film the reassembly. Even if it can be figured out by the reverse order, it is better to actually see it done.
