They should remake this car, make it look the exact same exterior and update the interior slightly and fix all the mechanical faults that pop up. I’d buy it ASAP

I've driven this exact model and I must say, it's quite the car to drive. Lot's of power, Extremely comfortable and it's a tank. You can pick these things up for quite cheap nowadays too. Beautiful car.

Couldn't agree with you more about this car. It is by far the best looking and for lack of better words, the most handsome car ever built by BMW. I have a 2005 545i. Powerful v8 which I love, but would rather have powering this vehicle. Think I'll buy an e38 one day for my garage! And use my 545i for daily driving.

I have a 730d witch is nothing special but that engine is absolutely bulletproof. Had the transmission go bad switching into 3rd gear limp mode but after that replacement and frequent standard maintenance it runs like a swiss watch and drives like a yacht. 350k km and no sign of stopping anytime soon.

We had the exact same car with black exterior and a few more options and we were extremely satisfied with it. We used it over 8 years and it never rattled or anything.But it seems like whoever used this car,used it very roughly. The plastics in the armrest aren't supposed the be broken like that and the pockets behind the seats shouldn't have let themselves loose.We sold our car when it was at 290.000km and it was at a better condition than this one.So please don't say it is in "mint condition".

Hey Turbo Man 94, you and I are on the same wave length, just like they did with the smoky and the bandit at Year One, I would to see this also redone but up date the inset to modern times....I have owned mine since 2010, never had a problem with mine, i have been extremely blessed in that department.....which I had the money to buy another, but the sport package, I do own the 740il.....I call her Sexy Legs, because for a 18 year old car she is still quick when tuned correctly.

Nice car! I have a 1995 740il in white with purple interior. The 1995 e38 has the 4.0 non-vanos engine (hold over from the e32 and e34 i believe) 210k. I also have a 1995 540i (same motor) in white/black and a 2003 530i in silver/black.

My cousin used to have this exact model but I think it was LeMans Blue. It was amazing but too bad it was rusted and corrosion was taking over the underbody. There was also a huge rust bubble next to the BMW badge on the trunk.

really want one. there's one for sale for $2,700 where I live. only problem is that it overheats but I think I can just bleed it and/or replace the thermostat and it will be good as new. 129k miles and in Navy Blue! Pretty cool.

I have a BMW 735il as a daily driver and a Range Rover P38 4.6 HSE, although the range rover is more reliable (overhaul the EAS system) and comfortable than the BMW, it drinks fuel like there's no tomorrow and I just can't afford to put 120$ worth of fuel in every 5 days!

Old BMW 7 series tend to have the greatest depreciation because of the reputation of being expensive to fix when they get older. So when they get to the age of this car, the value is the same or less than a similar age Camry, Accord or Corolla. This means that you will be able to pick these up very inexpensively. The crumbling plastics, the failing digital display's, the leaking valve cover gaskets and oil leaks you point out are typical and don't help.

Nice, fast car, if you can keep the engine together. BMW had Zero idea how to design that M62 V8 95-2001. The internal plastic pieces break which eventually takes out the whole engine. Avoid. Run. I owned one. That's the last BMW I'll ever own.

It's called maintenance my friend, my valve chain guides gave out at 165k and I replaced them and the engine is now running better than ever... good for another 100k easily.

I had one of these and it was the most unreliable car I have ever had. It was a great driving land yacht but its reliability was nothing short of laughable! Shame!

+Henry Perez It would probably be easier to tell you what I didn't replace. There is a reason why these cars can be had for under $2500 pretty easily. If you plan on using this car as a daily driver forget it. We bought our car over 10 years ago with just under 50k miles and we had constant problems with the cooling system, cam position sensors, MAF's, plastic idler pulleys, and alternator. There is a lot of cheap plastic parts under the hood that consistently let go and leave you stranded. I was surprised that by 75k miles the whole front suspension was worn and needed replacing. We also had to do valve cover gaskets, valley pan gasket, intake gaskets, and O2 sensors all before 100k. By that time we got rid of this shxt box and last I heard, the buyer we sold it to drove the car into a lake. He too was probably fed up with the car. This car is probably do-able as a fun weekend car but the V8 in these cars are nothing short of laughable in terms of reliability. We never kept our car long enough but if you read on the boards, it looks like timing chain tensioners are also another common problem. Good luck!

DIY Dan damn reading all of that scared the piss out of me! ha! I bought a mint condition w124 (now that car is think is stunning when kept in good condition) e320 wagon.Though laughable at how reliable that car was and how tank-like it was built, anything that would break would make a huge dent in my savings, i mean 485 dollars for a starter? insane! i kept up with it for a period of about 3 years but got rid of it due to the outlandish prices in parts. I did love it though, and it would not break down often if at all! my concern with the e38 is how reliable it is, and judging from your input - it isn't!

Oh yea W124's are great cars. Part prices can be stupid no doubt! The E38 is a remarkable car in terms of driving dynamics but unfortunately BMW ruined its legacy by "cheaping" out on the parts. It definitely could have been one of the great ones! If reliability is key a E38 is probably not for you. Look at something from Lexus like a GS or LS. Those things are tanks.
