I still have this truck and now over a year later it is still going great! The problem shown in video was bad pressure sensor and bad control module. Over 1k to fix including the dealer pitching in to pay half. Otherwise it was close to 2k. Since I have had to replace ball joints and all new brakes and roaters, I do like my truck though!

Had same problem was the governor selenoid and pressure selenoid.Ordered the kit with new filter and the sensors and gasket solved the problem.

I went thru that. Rebuilt trans n warranty covered. Still going strong 18 yrs later

I had a similar issue with my Ford van with twice the mileage.I changed fluid,filter and drained the torque converter.filled it with correct fluid and new filter.runs amazing after that.

They are mounted on the side of the valve body, just drop the transmission pan and you'll see them just don't pinch any wires when putting the new ones it fixed mine I had the exact same issue with mine.

Got it fixed. It was the pressure sensor. Now the truck shifts fine

Yeah, our truck does that too, it is a 2001 1500 single cab rwd with the 5.9L Magnum in it, the transmission is fine, and for us its been like that since 01, its just trying to figure which gear would be appropriate for the speed its going vs the rpm its at, ours only has 96K on the odometer, which is not too bad

Being low on fluid can cause it to hang between shifts like that.

I bought my son a 01 1500 5.2L 318 4 x 4 installed a rebuilt jasper transmission less than a year ago. A seal went bad lost almost all of the fluid, 3 year warranty took it to the shop today they said it was fixed. Took it for a ride myself tonight and in 3rd gear at 4500 RPMs I was doing 100 mph because they don't rebuild the overdrive gear in rebuilt transmission's.

Don’t change any sensors or anything without being 100% sure with a professional diagnosis, your problem is very simple the points on your transmission cable on the side of the throttle body is pushed in too much, somebody messed with it, if the gear is late to shift that’s exactly what it is, you have to move it to the middle and it will shift smoothly the way it was meant to be, sometimes is too far out it shifts too fast and even jerks, check those videos of “how to calibrate the transmission shifting there’s is plenty specially on dodge rams

I have A 98 ram I have been working on for years and I have replaced everything had the same exact problem you're talking about I had to take the Pan off transmission there's 2 sensors A governor pressure sensor and a Solenoid sensor. If the truck sat at all you have to take those sensors off I sprayed brake cleaner air hose put him back on new fluid an a filter And then didn't have a problem. Most of the time when those transmissions go badd that's all it is is though sensor's I have completely rebuilt my transmission and I can guarantee that's was wrong with yours

my 01 dodge dakota 4x4 5.9 66,000 miles just started this crap last week. going up hills cold, its always behaved a little sluggish...now this hesitation into 2nd gear...let off the gas a little...she shifts...oddly, this started happening after we had sub zero temps and i used the 4x4 in both high/low as well as 1/2nd gear (rather than drive) in some slippery situations.

I have a 01 with the 318 it is doing the exact same thing had the fluid checked it was low full now still doing it its really just that second gear likes to get to a little over 2500 rpm before it likes to shift to 3rd

Weaver Family Farms.... it looks like you had to replace your pressure sensor twice to get yours fixed? The pressure sensor and the shift solenoid are sold as a kit. These are an easy fix. The hardest part of swapping them out is not making a mess and cleaning the old gasket material off the trans pan and trans surface to remount the new seal/pan. Honestly its like a 30 minute job. However after replacing mine.... I still have the problem. It looks like they replaced your TCM also. Those are pricey. I am wondering if its just the ground to the TCM. I am going to try running a fresh ground to the TCM direct from the battery. A TCM generally needs to be shorted from a bad sensor (short to ground).... to go bad. I am wondering if it was just a bad ground to the PCM and they just charged you for a replacement the entire TCM (chasing parts). Thanks for the post.... all the replies are helpful.

My rpm goes up to the 2 but seems to take awhile to shift but mine does rev up trying to get into second only does it one time after that won’t do it when the truck is warm mines a 94 ram 1500 no rust or nothing well took care of all these older dodge has trany problems unfortunately

I have a 2000 dodge Ram 1500 5.9 and it shifts through 1st and 2nd just fine but occasionally will do this thing where it won’t shift into third just raises the rpms around 50 mph but only does it once in a blue moon normally shifts just fine ?

Mine is holding 3rd gear almost to 4000rpms before it shifts unless I let off the gas a bit then it will shift fine. I also have a abs and brake light on and heard that abs sensor in the rear diff could cause that too. Changing it tomorrow and will update.

UPDATE!!!!!! The truck is now starting to do the SAME thing AGAIN!!!! just a couple months later! Is the pressure sensor going bad already again after being fixed by a really good transmission shop? What is going on?!?!?!

my 2001 does this now and then...guy i bought it from said trans was rebuilt ...fluid looked clean and right level and linkage was tight for having 130k miles so i took his word....im thinking pressure solenoid..

I have same truck 5.9 .. at 98,000 I had to replace transmission and at 150,000 I replaced it again.. there is an inline transmission filter that needs to be bypassed.. it clogs and chocks out your fluid to transmission

2001 Ram 1500 5.9 4+4 without warning 140k i had just used reverse drove half a block stopped to back up and i had no reverse, drives forward under a load but when it reaches gear ratio to ground speed forward gears disengage .a little help please.

Mine slips only changing from 2nd to 3rd and only when cold. After reaching operating temperature it changes fine. 130,000 miles and I've changed the fluid once after I got it. Winter time is worse but summer is not as bad.

My 2001 does just the opposite. I can't get much road speed before it shifts through all the gears. I have to constantly turn the OD button on and off or it will go into OD and lockup so fast the whole truck will shake itself to death.

My 2001 ram 1500 sport started a bad vibration and before I could pull over made a loud bang and lost all movement! Put in gear and makes a zipping noise. Pulled the transfer case and all looks pristine. Started motor and put in gear, no grinding noise! What’s wrong with my truck?

Nice truck probably something very minor. Dodge will last you long time. Probably a ground wire or battery ground needs tightening or cleaning

I have an 01 ram 1500 that won't shift out of first at all now. It started out not wanting to go into overdrive or 3rd but now runs up to 3000 rpms and won't shift out of first. Do you think the governor pressure sensor will fix it??

Same with my 06. My best results is to warm up the truck 15-20 minutes, then take off slow. Sometimes it occurs sometimes it doesn’t. When it does, mine goes into limp mode(stays in 3 gear till I turn it off and restart). My lesson, don’t buy a dodge.

I have a 95 dodge ram 1500. It does not go past 3rd gear the transmission is new and has close to 5000 miles on it. However the motor has almost 200 thousand miles on it. I changed spark plugs oil and air filter. She was running ok until i driver it for more than 15 minutes and it would take forever to get going.

So my dodge is having issues to where I try to shift into drive or park any gear but the column is it matched up what do you thinks the problem guys

The problem with the 2nd gen dodges r that u need to go to aftermarket internals for the transmission dont go with OEM mopar parts cuz u will end up with the same problem every time. Just thought i would let u all know that.

Same issue... does not want to shift into 3rd. And sometimes will not go into reverse. I read someone ran a ground wire direct from the battery to the firewall at the PCM ground on the firewall and that fixed his issue. I tried replacing the pressure sensor/solenoid and that did not work. I also saw that there are other known internal issues with this tranny 46re. One being an oring is the wrong diameter inside the transmission. Another video shows that there is another very common failure inside that causes high rpm shifts into 3rd and slamming or no reverse. So...... I will keep trying to see what I can find. Has anyone had a bad pressure sensor installed and had to replace yet again to fix this?

Having the issue where it shifts most of the time but sometimes it slips and just keeps reving really high. I also have a backfiring issue. I’ve had the plugs and wires checked and they look brand new. My hood is slightly gapped so my question could too much air contribute to backfiring?

I have a 01 dodge ram 1500. has a 318 in it. and mine always shifts that high. the problems I've had with that truck is the fuel pump. data line. and computer. swapped computers 3 times and fuel pump 3 times. has a hell of a time starring. If I was you id just return it. don't do what I did

What's the first digit of your VIN? It tells where it was made. If it's a 1,2 or 4 it's US. 3 it's mexico.
