The visual differences between a base or WS6 Trans Am or Formula and Firehawk models include but were not limited to the Firehawk composite ram air hood, SLP 17" wheels (which are the ones shown on the front of this car), and of course the badging. Other optional pieces were the IROC spoiler and cast exhaust tips (these were generally only put on the 10th Anniversary cars, but were not exclusive to them), as well as rallye stripes on the hood, roof panel, and trunk lid.

Yes. All V8 and some v6 powered 4th gen F-bodies came with limited slip (positraction) differentials. cars from 1998 and earlier were equipped with Auburn differentials, 1999 and later were equipped with Zexel-Torsen units.

Me too, I have wanted one for so long. I think a blacked out firehawk, trans am with sweet black rims. A built engine with twin turbos done right. That would be a sweet car. Someday

@slednut1010 no problem, do you have a firebird yet? if you plan on getting one, just get an LS1, and try for a 99 and up as I think 98's use a unique pcm. This will make it easier to do an engine swap later, the LS1 is the first LS engine, the newer LS engines are capable of more power, including the iron blocked LQ4 and LQ9 which are LS based. If you get a cheap LT1 and do the swap, you will end up spending the same and not get the larger brakes or larger, lighter gas tank from '99

It's an LS1 in this car. The last year for the LS1/LS6 5.7L was 2004, the LS2 6.0L took over as the hi-po car engine in 2005. And the LS3 6.2L took over in 2008.

The Camaro was also offered with similar packages. The base camaro could be bought with the RS package along with the Y87 performance pack (same thing as a Firebird GT). The Z28 could be outfitted with the RS appearance pack, or the Ultra-Z package. Slp also handled the upgrades for SS model cars.

Firebird was the model of car they were all based off of. The Formula and Trans Am were essentially trim and performance upgrades. Though they're all Firebirds, they're considered different models because of how they're equipped. The Firehawk package was an upgrade added only to the Formula and Trans Am models for 4th gen cars. The 3rd generation Firehawks were built only from the Formula trim cars.

the 2001 Firebird Formula or Trans AM firehawk version have the GM LS1 V8 engine which makes 345HP In Firehawk trim, or 325HP with the WS6 package. I owned a new 2002 with the WS6 package, didn't wanna wait the extra 3 months and extra couple thousand to get the Firehawk.

@pitbull426 ws6 has 325hp has the higher-flow LS6 intake manifold and a higher-performance clutch. the firehawk is made by slp and had 330 hp (335 after 2000, 345 in late 2002 models equipped with the optional Blackwing intake.

Exactly. There were 3 models of the Firebird offered by Pontiac, base Firebird, Formula V8 (essentially a Trans Am in Firebird dress) and the Trans Am. SLP offered a version of the Firebird GT (own one of these), and the Firehawk came in Formula or Trans Am trim levels. I've also been told that the WS6 was also done with help from SLP. Because they were ordered through GM dealers, they're considered stock vehicles.

@TheNorthernSoulKing i have the radio controls in the steering wheel, but they dont work with my aftermarket radio...but i have heard that you can easily hook them up on ls1 tech...but my aftermarket radio has an ipod input and audio video inputs as well...i love red trans ams...mine is pewter and i have grown to love the color, but everytime i see i clean red one pass by i always do a double take...red trans am with black rims looks awesome btw

Firehawk is the special edition that SLP put together. Same as the Camaro SS. WS.6 is GM performance package and the trans am is your V8 with out all the bells and whistles.

It's cool. Keeping up with all of the Gen 3 and Gen 4 "LS" engines can get a little tricky. But you're right, the sound of an OHC Mustang just can't match a good old fashioned GM pushrod V-8.

HP is 415rwhp 390rwtq If I'm not mistaken Cost Headers around $450 True Duals 400, Cam with everything else around $1000 and since the car is 2001 so he has LS6 Intake and maybe a pulley its lee than $200 the most expensive thing is the 9inch rearend I believe $2400 but its a MUST if you wanna have fun like that otherwise the stock rearend will go booom you need a tune $500 Total is close $5500-$6000 installed and tuned and ready to go....

an 01 would probably be high 12s to low 13s in the quarter depending on the driver and tires

@StrokedGT yea. i already have one. its a 97 trans am with a lt1 350. my parents wouldnt let me get an ls1 cause there is "too much power for a 16 year old". so im looking to just do a sound upgrade. i dont want to do a full engine switch yet.

That car is badass. And it is a Firehawk, or at least a good clone. But I'd be willing to put my money on it being a true Firehawk. These and WS6 Firebirds are pretty much my favorite car of all time, so I know pretty much all of the history on these cars.

1998 had 305hp and in 02 it was up to 325 without ram air. the firehawk had went to a company called SLP for some tweaking and upgrades and removal of weight. either way, in 02 the WS6 had 350 coming from the LS1 that is why i said 360 but it actually could be more like 375hp. companies under-rated their cars a lot and it is a well known fact that gm gave lower ratings for camaros and firebirds to promote sales of the vette, which had the same LS1 but was rated with more power.

not unless you have a Firebird Formula, of a Firebird Trans am, which would already have roughly the same power as the car in the video, as they both have the LS1 V8 engine, which has 305 HP or 325HP with the WS6 upgrade or 345 with the Firehawk upgrade. If you have just the V8 without, you'll need to change your Airbox lid, air filter to K&N, and change the exhaust, and that'll up you to 345 or more horse power. You can get those add on's from SLP among other places.

@slednut1010 they dont make LS1 heads for LT1s, 2 different engines. Just get headers for an LT1, lots of people make them. He has Hooker headers, they make LT1 headers too. Or look at other brands, a lot of guys use Kooks headers on these cars, they make headers for LT1s

if you're going to get one get a 98-02, those are the LS1 motors. 93-97 is the LT1 which has minor styling differences and the motor is kinda out of date now

For those who say this is not a real firehawk remember this; The SLP hood had two scoops on the side of the hood that would cool down the engine and this car has that hood, that's not an easy thing to find; I doubt this guy went through all that trouble of changing the badges and finding the hood and buying the rims just to pose it as a firehawk... But firehawk or not this car kicks some ass!

this one is an LS1 and i think horsepower is around 345-360. this is a 98-02 style

Man, that thing is sick! You should post more vids of it eating up on some rice, outrunning mustangs, or embarrasing viper's. This is the true definition of a muscle car. So sad GM had to kill Pontiac, but, then again all they had going for them was a hiddeous looking 2-seater with a turbo motor(wtf!?) and the G8 GXP witch they failed to market the car like they should have. Long live GM LS power.

@GMisurdaddy IF this is a Firehawk "T/A " I would think they are rare even in later years. There were only 2400 total made from 1999-2002 Even the plain firehawk would be rare in my eyes. 3500 total for the same 4 years. But I guess rare can mean only a few. I have a loaded '02 WS6 which 10K were made for just that year. And I think mine will climb in price due to low numbers. 'I hope"
