I know this is an old comment I'm replying to, but the reason for that could be because: they had these in 4x4 version with the D17A engine, and also in CVT if you are into that, but most but not all, (especially 4x4 version) are Automatics, the base models without fancy 4x4 or anything of the sort could be manual. All of those versions mentioned were JAPAN exclusive unfortunately. Otherwise it's just for the fact if it's a 2000-2002 (I belive it was up until 2002?) it could be true JDM car, instead of made in Swindon, England or in various other places in the world, which is always quality wise the best option. Same as if you want a German car, you'd want it to be made in Germany. Other than that, on my knowledge; I dont know if there are interior differences or many other differences, other than this one on the exterior seems to have that bumper antenna, which is quirky and strange. Not in my liking. Some do appear to have factory set early 2000's touchscreens, that's something to mention, but mostly not all of them. If you dont plan on a engine swap, with these cars and want a challenge; keep it single jingle, that D17A is the best version out of D17's, as it's the JDM one, D16 on the other hand is a different matter.

In my experience, the only harm I have seen is bad fuel and/or condensation in the tank causing bad performance or failed fuel systems. So far I have not seen engines dry out, but perhaps those cars don't end up at the auction. Good question.

I think you're right about them being made in the uk, we definitely built the uk spec which is very similar, but whether we built the japan spec idk. I don't the ones we have over here have flat floors though, will have to check next time I see one. Also derek, I'm fairly sure that thing in the front you folded down was an armrest.

wayne chadwick I have the same 1.6 and yes they are good fun! Bit of a grannie machine but still ! Plus a 2002 type r bumper fits pretty easily

It's is the same as the Civic Si. I've got the 1.7 in Australia. The U.S only got the two door Si. Australia got both the 4 door 1.7 V-TEC engine and the Type R variant of the Civic. The Type R had an additional 40 hp on top of the Si with more aggressive driving dynamics. The U.S got the odd one out of the Civic lineup.

Rj Echols this engine looks the same as the d17 I'm sure they share many parts including transmission.

They only sold the 2 door of these as the Si in the USA and SiR in Canada which is basically an EP3. I really wish we have more of the EP2 as well as the EUs in North America along with the EM2, ES1, and ES2s.

The cdti versions at that time were not Honda diesels. The first diesel developed by Honda was the 2.2 i-cdti which was introduced in 2003 in the Honda Accord! The cdti's in these generation Civics were developed by Isuzu. The 2.2 i-cdti is a very reliable engine. Maybe the best diesel engine ever made!

It also depends upon how an engine is treated. If an engine is maintained well and driven carefully after a cold start it can last a long time.

because its reliable, and it has so little kilometers.
