2002 Pontiac Grand AM Security System No Start

2002 Pontiac Grand AM all of a sudden won't start, just cranks. The Security Light is ON. It will start via the key FOB. I ended up using the key relearn process, which may only be a temporary fix. I reference another video where they bypass the security system by soldering in a 2.2k ohm resistor. It may also be a failing lock cylinder/pass key system, which is a recall item. You can replace the lock cylinder yourself, and have it reworked at a lock shop so the original keys work if you like, or live with one key for the door/trunk and another for the ignition.

My 2002 pontiac grand prix has been doing the same thing for years. The fix for me is this. Turn the key over in the start position and keep it there for 10 minutes exactly. After 10 minutes it starts right up. It does it every now and then so I don't panic. I sit in my car with my phone and watch a couple of KZfaq videos for 10 minutes.

I really recommend the bypass method then we just use any key 😁😁

I love Grand Am's but heard this problem is common, so never got one. Now I can't find any that are worth fixing in my area ,they all went to the junk yard Very sad.

Exactly what mine is doing!!! And I have a remote start. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter because I thought that was it but when I start mine with the remote and go to put it in to gear it dies

When reprogramming a new BCM to disable the Anti theft make sure ALL fuses are installed and working. It is setup to need to communicate with certain parts of the car and without all fuses present (even RDO funny enough) it won't work. This happened to me until I found the info on a forum.

I had a new battery installed into my 2002 Grand Am and then it would not start. The mechanic I took it to said I had to turn the key in the ignition 3 times, with a pause in between, to reactivate the security system. Is this true:

My car did the same thing took the car to a mechanic which I found out he wasn't very honest he fixed the car but had to leave it there then I picked it up and did the same thing so I went on KZfaq and did the same thing with the security alarm system this has been about 5 years ago in the car never did it again after that

I found out that it can be caused by a faulty/broken trunk security wire leading to/from the trunk lock. Simply bypass the lock's security wire at the trunk's switch.

Too much weight on your key ring. Faulty ignition. But also you have to watch your fuses. The fuse that is for both your ac and bcm which is a number thirty something fuse. If its that change it and pull your ac relay and it shouldn't ever happen again.

I own a 2004 Pontiac grand am se1 3.4l and i have that fuse blow on me and i thought maybe the computer died, i tested all the fuses in the cabin, and i even tried this relearn procedure but nothing worked. Then i read an article about this and totally remembered that theres fuses under the hood, and checked that number thirty something fuses thats for both the ac and bcm. It was blown, i fixed it and pulled the ac relay that allow for the fuse to blow and never had a problem since.
