I have a 2002 Red Firebird too. Mine has 56,000 original miles,and it pretty much looks MINT inside and out. The ONLY flaw with the interior is the door cracks by each window. I’ve talked to a LOT of Firebird owners,and I guess it’s a pretty common problem. I’m just happy my T-Tops don’t leak. Nice ride you got there! It’s nice to see people keeping these cars cared for. 😉

Do all of these 4th gen cars have all the dash lights on? Is it an electrical malfunction or some kind of light test the car does? Because I wouldn't doubt it if half of them were true on my car. The previous owner also said replacing a certain lightbulb fixes alot of electrical areas.

The fact that you have the LS6 block means that you should be higher powee rated. The crank bottom end is good for over 1000hp on any LS1. So in your case changung the heads and throttke body to LS6 would give you big safe power. Especially with long tube header and being cammed. 500hp+ easilly. The weak point on these cars are the 4l60e auto trans which handke about 350hp vs over 500hp on manuals and the 12 bolt rear axle however you can buy a braket kit to make it stronger and the auto trans can be beefed up a bit.

HI KENNY B. Your TA is a very cool driver TA... You can do a few light mods that dont COST alot ... And be happy that your driven cool Sporty Car.... And ya dont n er ed to treat it like a TRAILER QUEEN.... l had a 95 TA , and it was in descent shape = but always had little problems = OIL LEAKS ect... Sold it and bought a 98 with 30,000 miles... And it's in VGC = CALIFORNIA CAR. = NO CORROSION AT ALL = YOU COULD EAT YOUR DINNER OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THIS CAR... Paid 10 grand for it... put 2 grand into it so far , and it puts like a lion... Maybe a supercharger is in the works = but then it's like = Standard Automatic Transmission is not GONA Last... And REAREND is a weak like also... So it ends up being alot of money.. If ya dont pound these cars to hard they last along time... As you see with your car with = 170 some Rounds... l have put on 1,600 miles in the 4 yrs I have owned her.... So I'm thinking l be 140 yrs old and she be rolling along = lolol = have fun in your TA = DRIVE SAFE = CHANGE OIL EVERY 3,000 miles... Thanks for your video...

@usquanigo5 жыл бұрын
Nice car! The flat hoods do look nice. So many questions.... what is the exhaust like when just cruising? I love the stock exchaust for it's quietness until you get on it and worry about aftermarket stuff being too loud when cruising, or droning. The idle and rev sounded great though. What size tires do you have on it? How does it ride with the 18s in back? I assume they are fairly heavy, and I worry about increasing unsprung weight (which will happen no matter what I pick unless I spend an absolute fortune).
@kennybarnes80195 жыл бұрын
The SLP loudmouth 2 exhaust with the factory cats is quite when cruising. Comes alive when you get on it :) Rear I have 275/40/18 and it's not big enough tire haha. I will go with a 295/35 when the tires wear out. The wheels don't weight much at all.
@usquanigo5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! :) Hmm. An in-car, windows up and windows down crusing/getting on it video would be awesome. :) Ah. I want to go staggered, but I can't do different sidewall heights. That would drive me insane. I want larger rear rolling diameter, but worry about the EBFD system going nuts. I have an 02 WS6, and the factory 17s are lighter than any affordable aftermarket wheels I've seen. So just swapping alone would add weight. then going wider (and/or bigger), would add even more. Not so worried about rotational inertia (though more rolling diameter would change gearing), but am worried about ride quality and controlability over bumps. (which are likely to diminish with more unspring mass to move around) So am curious about a before after impression of ride quality in rear after putting on heavier wheels/tires.
@kennybarnes80195 жыл бұрын
I would do the a video of it with the windows up and down going down the road, but I just installed long-tube headers on my T/A. I'm about to do a video on it here in a couple of days. As far as the wheels go, it was a great difference going from Factory 16" wheels to the offset rims and tires in a good way. I love the look of the Factory WS6 wheels, but cost comparison it just made more since for me going twith aftermarket wheels.
@usquanigo5 жыл бұрын
Look forward to the new exhaust incar vid. Confused over how adding unsprung mass to the back, while simultaneously reducing cushion (sidewall, which is effectively increasing spring rate), could possibly improve the ride. It should worsen it. Now, cornering grip, accel/decel traction, and beyond the limit control might improve, I can't really guess, but just normal crusing over bumps, road cracks, pot holes, recessed manhole covers, etc, it should hit harder and be harsher since the heavier wheel is less prone to getting out of the way. (and sometimes people are so focused on performance that comfort is never a factor, so could lead to some miscommunication).
@Young_Blueberry_4 жыл бұрын
I was gonna get a ws6 but really not much at all is different from the base model so that's why I'm getting a base and maybe later on put the ws6 ram air hood
@Delantho5 жыл бұрын
all you have to do to make it as "fast" as a ws6 is to get the tall air box base, the base of the airbox opening on the ws6 has a taller gap. hawks motorsports sells a reproduction of it
@kennybarnes80195 жыл бұрын

@kennybarnes80195 жыл бұрын
Go to my channel, I have a video after installing the RAM AIR hood. The color of the block can be an indication. LS1 blocks have a bright finish like the cylinder heads. The LS6 block will have a dull finish. For block #'s, look on the back of the block,driver side cylinder head. That's more of a official guarantee of what block you have in your car.

@kennybarnes80196 жыл бұрын
transam2002ws6 The part number I got off the back of the block was #12561168. All 2001 and 2002 trans Am's and Camaro's got the LS6 intake from the factory. Rumor Has It that 10 to 15 percent of the 2001 F-bodys got the LS6 block and 20 to 25 percent of the 2002 F-Bodys got the LS6 block. You can go to any GM dealership and tell them you need a price on the back dash panel. Right now, GM is asking over $600 retail. You can ask them and see if they will sell it to you 15% over cost.

@kennybarnes80195 жыл бұрын
GM ran out of LS1 bock's during production in 2001-2002. Well, to solve that problem GM had a surplus of LS6 blocks, so GM put LS6 blocks in the F-body in the LS1 place. It's just the block, it doesn't come with the LS6 pistions, rods, Crank , etc. GM put LS1 components in the LS6 block. No performance gain for having the LS6 block, just neat that this car was one of the very few that got the LS6 block.

It's kinda hard to describe it over a text, but I'll try. One of the ways you can tell is if the block has a dull finish or engine block numbers or, right under where the throttle body is, there should be a cast where it looks like a bulleye or solid. Go on LS1 tech forms, it describes it better and has pictures. :)

It included Higher Rate 1LE Springs (`98-mid `00) 32mm front swaybar Specific valving Decarbon Shocks 17x9 Wheels with 275/40 Goodyears Ram Air Hood with taller lower Airbox Powersteering cooler Low resrtiction exhaust (different muffler and tips vs regular V8 cars) Mandatory extra cost 3.23 performance gear set when ordered with and Automatic trans. The LS1 vs LS6 block is still up for debate. Most say it doesn't make any difference. The engine ID number is on the block just behind the driver side head. A stamp on the block with the code number: 12561168 signifies an LS6 block. Some say you can check the VIN# and if the eighth digit is an S its an LS6 if its a G its an LS1. My 2001 Formula has the G. Do I care? not really. It's a bad @ss engine either way!

@kennybarnes80194 жыл бұрын
2002 Base model T/As and formulas did come with 16s. T/A with the WS6 package all came with 17s. I can give you VIN number off the car and you can take it to the dealer and ask them what size wheels my T/A came with from the factory.

You are wrong they are not just as fast the WS6 has around 345hp conservative as opposed to 305hp also WS6 models had a bit better suspension. Great car though.

505 enthusiast I would not have got this car without paper work. Luckliy, the car was service religiously at the dealership where I work, so it was well taken care of. The lady that had it drove it a lot from State to State. It has a lot of interstate miles on it. If you get one with paper work showing it was taking care of and not dog the crap out of, it will last a long time :)

You're right. I didn't think it would at the time. It did really good in the Dyno with the mods I had done at that time. 331whp 347wftq. Now I have BBK longtubes with off-road y-pipe, so I'm curious now on how much power I gain now. Won't know until November.

@@kennybarnes8019 That's a generous dyno. Never seen an auto ls1 make 330rwhp and almost 350rwtq off a lid and exhaust. I know they underrated these cars i've owned 4, but that would put you over 400 engine hp.

@@scottwilson599I thought the exact same thing as you did, but the owner of the shop that put my car on the dyno to get it tuned has a 2000 model trans am Ws6 and he had a little more mods than mine, and when he dynoed mine and finished the tune he told me that my car put more power on the ground in his did with the same mods.
