Still have mine I bought July 10th 2001. When the Prairie 650, Grizzly 660, Sportsman 700 came out mid year 2001, they were light years ahead of anything that had come before them.

I have same machine i am original owner from back in late 01. Been thru 2 Chinese carbs because of the price lure. Finally gave in and found an original mikuni there was one left on a shelf in japan. $500 bucks later it purs like the day i picked it up. Also Yamaha was the first to offer independent rear suspension back in the day. Thats what originally sold me on this machine. Great review.

Fantastic review! Just found your channel and you do such a great job covering beginning to end of a typical trail ride experience. Your actual loop you take is perfect with its combination of terrain and elevation changes. I really appreciate the technical detail of the performance and engine configuration. I think I will be looking for a Grizzly 660 or 700 for my next used quad if I can find a deal on a nice example.

You really can’t go wrong with either one of the grizzly’s I’d say the biggest difference is the fuel injection on the 700’s are very nice for cold weather riding there’s no messing with chokes or anything. Also if you ride in drastic elevation changes the fuel injection adjusts the amount of fuel and runs great no matter where you bring it.

With the stock wheels and tires you’d be able to hit more like 66-68 MPH top speed. Still did decent with the heavier wheels and bigger tires though.
@rockspowersports

@AMF96 I’ve had a stock one before I think it ran 62-64 somewhere in there. I had a grizzly 700 also and that hit the limiter at 66mph

Hey Man! I wanted to ask your opinion. If you could only have one ATV between a Polaris, Yamaha, or Honda which would you choose? And why? I don’t have much experience with Honda but do have more experience with Yamaha and Polaris at least as far as riding goes. Between Yamaha and Polaris there’s certain things about both of them that I like better over the other but like them pretty equally overall. I’ve never really worked on either of them as far as repairs or maintenance goes so just wanted to ask your opinion.
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@AMF96 I would say I’m my experience Honda and Yamaha are usually more reliable than Polaris. Polaris is still good though and if I wanted a comfortable ATV for trail riding it would be a Polaris. As far as working on them, most of them are the same there’s not a huge difference. These Grizzly 660’s are great machines and so are the 700’s.

Since you have experience with both the Grizzly 660 and 700, what are the biggest differences between the two? Is there much of an advantage to the 700 over the 660 besides the EFI and EPS? Does the 700 have a better ride and handling characteristics?
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@AMF96 There both solid wheelers. I personally prefer the 700 the efi is very nice in the cold weather. The grizzly 700 might handle and ride better than the 660 but it’s not much of a difference. The main differences are what you mentioned the efi and optional eps on the 700.
@AMF96
@AMF96 Жыл бұрын
@@rockspowersports Cool. I figured there wouldn’t be much difference except for the EFI and EPS on the 700. I currently have an 02 660 I bought about 3 years ago but hope to get a nice used 700 someday. Do you know anything about the 686 and 708 engines the Grizzly 700 has had over the years and which engine is better? Or what years of the Grizzly 700 is best if buying used?
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@@AMF96 I haven’t had any experience with the 708 Dohc engine only the 686 and that motor was bulletproof for me. I think Yamaha ended up going back to the 686 so I would say that’s probably the better engine out of the 2.

What would you pick between this atv atv and a late 90s early 2000s sportsman 500
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@Josh Robinson It depends what your looking to do with the ATV… They both have there good and bad points. If your plowing or really working the machine the extra weight from a Polaris sportsman will come in handy, also the ride is smoother on the Sportsman. If you like playing around and having fun, the Grizzly is way better at that and you can still work it pretty good also. I’m my experience the Grizzly’s are usually more reliable, however if you keep them maintained they will both last a long time. My personal preference would be the grizzly but that’s just me.. I’m not sure if you see my other videos but I have a test ride of a 96 sportsman 500 and a 06 sportsman 500efi you can check out below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gN-Bfr2k17-7j30.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d8uXfseqmdjTZqs.html

@@rockspowersports thanks for the reply, I’m currently riding a 2000 Honda rancher es 4x4 I mainly just trail ride
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@Josh Robinson Those ranchers are bullet proof but for trail riding either one of those machines you mentioned would be a improvement in ride and power. If you like how nimble your Rancher is you’ll like the Grizzly more than the sportsman. If you just want the smoothest ride, then the sportsman would be better for you.
@joshrobinson2988
@joshrobinson2988 Жыл бұрын
@@rockspowersports yeah the rancher is pretty stiff and the all time 4x4 makes the steering a little stiff too but it’s been a good machine. I’ve always preferred Honda and Yamaha and I’ve heard that the ultramatic is one of the best cvt on the market
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@Josh Robinson Yes the ultramatic is very reliable. I’ve seen many Yamaha’s with 6000-10,000 miles with the original belt still on them. If you ride in deep water and mud the Yamaha is a little more maintenance as you should clean the grease out of the clutch and fill with new grease if you do get water in there. It’s not hard just time consuming.. It’s hard to beat a grizzly in my opinion the 660’s are nice the 700 efi is even better.

This prices have inflated a lot this year… I just sold this a few weeks ago for $3000 And I’m starting to see prices come down some right now so that’s up to you. It would have to be a very clean machine for me to consider paying that much for it.
@NickDaDesigner
@NickDaDesigner 3 жыл бұрын
4k is not a bad price for these especially if in this condition as the video. The market is inflated now, dealers are empty with inventory, private sellers are taking advantage and selling a lot higher than their actual value. I just picked up a 2006 Brute Force 650 for $3200 and love it.
